"I'd be surprised if there weren't far more fireworks in this debate than there were in the first presidential debate,"

It would be pretty hard to have LESS.

As one of the conservative movement's foremost thinkers, Ryan, 42, combines a polite demeanor with an unflinching willingness to outline steps that would dramatically scale back the role of the federal government.

Sure, unless you want, y'know, specifics.

/American-type thinker

Never mind the tea party, Ryan's true constituency is the commentariat, which years ago decided that he was the Honest, Serious Conservative, whose proposals deserve respect even if you don't like him.
But he isn't and they don't. Ryanomics is and always has been a con game.

Vice Presidents don't matter. Except in the case of Cheney, they are mostly irrelevant.

Joe Biden is going to wind up looking like Admiral Stockdale...just standing there looking stupid while Ryan talks over his head. The liberal media is going to slobber on Biden's privates and tell us what a great job he did. Obama is going to stay hidden in luxury resorts until it's his turn again to get his ass kicked by Romney again.

You're obviously not very familiar with Biden. I'm actually more worried he's going to say TOO much, and get carried away.

True. ButI think it's pretty safe to say in the Romney/Ryan team, Ryan's the "brains"; the new-post debate Romney is the slick, used car salesman who will say/do anything to get sale (vote).

This year has increased importance due to the previous debate. Biden has to win, or risk sinking an already fragile campaign

Biden and Ryan have shown a greater willingness to mix it up than their buttoned-down bosses, and both seem comfortable playing the traditional vice-presidential role of attack dog.

[okaywiththis]

Bring it.

Based on his history, he is more likely to plagiarize lines from Admiral Stockdale

I hope that Biden rolls up in his Trans-Am with Metallicas S&M version of For Whom the Bell Tolls blasting out the window. Then Ryan will shiat himself in fear.

CanuckInCA: Why in the hell does the media insist on calling Ryan a "thinker"?

He can't even explain his own plan, probably because it doesn't work unless you divide by zero.

He recently walked off an interview because he didn't like the question. He was rhapsodizing about helping people in the ghetto with opportunities and investments and education. The reporter asked him if he was going to accomplish that with tax cuts. He ended the interview and called the question "strange." He doesn't handle pushback very well and gets peevish and irritated when he's called on his BS.

Scranton. Biden is going to talk about Scranton. He's also going to talk about old people.
