Holy shiat, he's gonna get in some deep trouble for this one. Vinnie Mac is already on the warpath because of the abysmal ratings.

And people don't think that this belongs in the sports tab. What other rigged sports let you in on the action like that?

Maybe the NBA, but it has been years.

To elaborate, the camera zipped out while Punk was turning an getting ready for the elbow. That is what I was talking about. The full elbow was not shown on TV, just the prep

If he's that twitchy about fans touching or attacking him then he does not need to be going into the stands, whether that's his call or the writer's or Vince's. Doesn't matter. It's biatch antics.

Fan attacking a wrestler is a serious thing. Wrestlers have permission to break kayfabe to protect themselves. Famous moment happened when during a Vampiro v Mike Awesome match in WCW, a fan took a shot at Vampiro, causing both wrestlers to break character and attack the fan. I am not saying that he didnt overreact, I am just saying that a fan attacking a wrestler is a very serious thing and needs to be dealt with right away.

I 100% agree when it comes to fans jumping the railings or using laser pointers or something that affects the wrestlers i or around the ring. I disagree, however, when it comes to a wrestler darting into the crowd. The practice is stupid and will result in someone being seriously hurt someday.

There is never a reason for a fan to put his or her hands on a wrestler, however you do see wrestlers like Cena, and Punk in the past, go into the crowd to be embraced. Fans are stupid and are not going to know that they are not supposed to embrace the heel.

The only thing Punk could have controlled there was his own actions. It's a completely avoidable biatch move on Punk's part. He could have hit a kid or incited a riot like Ron Artest did.

Redwing: According to a fan account the fan slapped Punk in the back and it didn't get caught on camera.

That account is far too open to interpretation. A slap on the back? Like a "hey Punk, I'm gonna pat you on the back because you're up here and I'm super excited." Does that warrant the kind of reaction Punk had? And of course there is the big "what ifs" because he threw the elbow before seeing who was behind him.

Who would have guessed Bully Ray can handle fan interaction better?

Or the fan could have been tapping out. Like in the film Warrior, where he kind of pats him on the back to say "It's okay brother, you are forgiven, and also I tap out". In which case Punk hitting him after he already submitted is bullshiat, unless they're trying to pull off a double turn.

Okay. Okay... The guy gets a backfist upside the head at the MOMENT he puts on a pair of gigantic sunglasses. If staged, that could have been a signal for Punk's "cue".

That said, at the same time... it doesn't look like Punk even LOOKED at the dude! Punk gets slapped on the shoulder by a fan, then "frees the beast" on the sunglasses guy!

I mean... It's just... There's...

There is simply no way Punk knew who or what was behind him, he was displaying biatch antics. Can. Not. Do. That.

My completely unfounded theory is that the reason he put his hands on anyone is because he went into the stands and fans tried to get near him. He's super into preserving the heel thing and before he hit the bald guy he shoved another guy seated to Punk's right. I think he was trying to make it look like the fans don't want to cheer him, don't want to be on his side.

I don't know. Punk does look over his shoulder for a few seconds before he swings. Now I have no idea how he knew who hit him (if he was hit), but he does acquire a target before swinging. But he really had no business hitting anyone unless they were actively hitting him and he had to defend himself. The sunglasses thing was odd. There is a small part of me that wants to believe this was a work.

If it was it's unlike any work WWE has ever done. They would have zoomed in on it, replayed it, and had Vince mention it. Vince clearly saw it and said nothing, it was real.

He won't be punished. Only sucky wrestlers get fired.

In the 80s, Paul Orndorff, Dynamite Kid, Jake Roberts, and Randy Savage all hit fans and had lawsuits. They continued to be pushed

David Sammartino hit a fan. His ass was gone instantly.

Of course, this video comes at the worst time for Vince's wifey. Election is in a month. Vince is probably pissed about that.

*puts on wizard hat*

If the dude hit Punk first, as some claim was the case, nothing will happen

If Punk hit the wrong dude, or just popped a guy for no good reason, he will defend against Cena at HIAC, and lose the belt. He will then spend the rest of the year looking like the biggest loser the WWE has ever had as part of his punishment.

I don't think he'd be suspended, but instead will be punished on TV every week.

???

Your link shows just the opposite. Somebody behind the wrestler first pushes him; wrestler gets annoyed at the push, looks behind himself to see who pushed him but doesn't do anything about it (time of video 0:35)... sunglasses guy goes to put on his sunglasses and accidentally hits the the wrestler in the back of the head as he brings his right hand down:

Wrestler dude then smacks sunglasses guy.

Hhhhhmm.... it looks like the following occurred (after the initial shove at 0:35):

1. White shirt guy isn't happy with the wrestler dude and starts flipping him the bird:
farm9.staticflickr.com

2. Sunglasses guy has his arms up in the air:
farm9.staticflickr.com

3. And then sunglasses guy brings his arms down to put on his sunglasses and accidentally hits the wrestler dude on the back of his head in the process:
farm9.staticflickr.com

4. White shirt guy's arm/hand gets tangled up with sunglasses guy's right arm and the white shirt guy's hand accidentally slaps the wrestler's dude's head as the sunglasses guy continues to bring his right hand down:
farm9.staticflickr.com

Wrestler dude then takes his frustrations out on the sunglasses guy.

I believe that is what happened....

He's being pushed. Watch the unnatural motion of his body. If you're going to hit someone, you don't fall into them. And that wasn't the hit that set Punk off, it's at :38 second that the prick in white shoves Punk hard, it's plain as day.

I posted at the same time as your second post. But If white shirt guy had his arms tangled, it would bring his arm down, not froward, moving Punk forward.

2012-10-09 04:03:46 AM
The guy in the long white sleeves, who is giving Punk the middle finger, pushes Punk in the back of the neck.

Guy with glasses does run into Punk right before that (getting Punk to turn around) but it looks like he was knocked off balance by someone from behind (most likely guy with white sleeves) and was just trying to catch himself while falling into Punk.

Your screen caps lie.

Not if sunglasses guy is bringing his arms forward as he goes to put on his sunglasses. That motion would propel the white shirt guy's tangled arm/hand forward as well, hitting the wrestler dude on the back of his head.

Ahem...NAILED IT! Punk was shoving people away, trying to make himself look like the cowardly loser. The dipshiat in the white shirt, NOT the guy with the sunglasses, flips off Punk from behind and then smacks Punk in the back of the head. Punk then loses his sh*t and hits glasses guy.

The incident is the result of multiple failures, the first being the fact that WWE sent Punk into the crowd when they know damn good and well what kind of instigator Punk is. Second failure is when arena security does not immediately surround and set up a perimeter of safety for Punk when he is on the stairs. Finally, and most importantly, the biggest failure is when Punk himself loses his sh*t and hits the fan.

I am by no means a John Cena fan but what happened tonight just shows why Cena is the face of WWE and Punk is not. Punk is too difficult, too uncompromising, and too volatile. He's also too good at being the bad guy. Cena gets mixed reactions all over the place and just keeps on chugging, he does not have to go berserk to try and preserve his good guy status like Punk did to preserve his bad guy persona tonight.

The past year or so has been fun and all but it's going to prove to be the zenith for Punk.

Yeah, the dick in white did a sneak attack push after Punk was almost pushed off the steps multiple times. The sunglasses douche just accidentally brushed against him. Wrong place and wrong time. I can see Punk's point of view, and hopefully the cops can as well. I don't see any more wrestlers being allowed to go into the audience after this clusterfrak. Vinnie Mac can't fire Punk, because him and John Cena are the only two big names the company has left that can draw money. I wouldn't doubt if Punk got the Hunter Hearst Helmsley treatment after the MSG Klique Farewell and he's jobbing in hog pen matches, but hopefully Vince will lighten up. It's a bad situation all around.

Just against the wrong asshole. I doubt he sees any real repercussions legally or storyline wise. He was supposed to lose to Cena at HIAC anyway, right?

Pretty much. There's enough evidence that shows Punk was provoked, even if he caught the wrong guy by accident. That'd make it tough to fire him with just cause, since it's well established protocol that if a fan assaults a wrestler, they have free license to defend themselves.

They'll probably legitimately fine him, give the guy he hit a nice check and an apology, and it'll be done and over with.

Punk hit the wrong guy. So the guy will sue and Vince will settle. But in that gif you can see the white shirt guy shoot the finger, then slap Punk on the back of the head.

I understand why Punk swung. Just defending himself. Too bad it was the wrong dude.

Punk is a dick.
The fans hitting him were dicks.
WWE is stupid for sending Punk into the stands
Vince is stupid for inserting himself into this story.

If Punk had ended up hitting a woman this would have gone nuclear.

2 things here...
1. Either this is all a work in which case, lulz
2. Punk was just reacting to white shirt douche pushing him and simply got the wrong guy.

If #2 then Punk issues an apology to the dude personally (Sorry man, though you were the douche that shoved me) and does some kind of appearance with the guy while Vince pays him off. End of story. Simply isn't enough for any sort of major lawsuit but glasses guy will get a little something something for it, fan style.

If I were Punk I would offer to hang with dude for a day, maybe make him his personal guest at the next show or something. If it were me I'd ask Punk if he could get me Daniel Bryan Danielson's autograph, lulz

Owangotang: The incident is the result of multiple failures, the first being the fact that WWE sent Punk into the crowd when they know damn good and well what kind of instigator Punk is. Second failure is when arena security does not immediately surround and set up a perimeter of safety for Punk when he is on the stairs. Finally, and most importantly, the biggest failure is when Punk himself loses his sh*t and hits the fan.

The first mistake was actually going through with the stupid farking Vince wrestling thing. Vince certainly looks to be in great shape, but it still looks stupid to have your heel champion having trouble with a 67 year old "non-wrestler". If they had just left Vince in a bloody heap on the floor after Punk's initial cheap shot attack and then immediately had the Ryback run in, it might have been OK. Just don't have you're chief-heel-champion-supposed-best-in-the-world guy get beat up by a 70 year old man. Just. Don't. Maybe Punk's right about the whole no respect thing.
I take it back. The first problem was carrying on the "no respect" storyline in the first place. It makes no sense and makes everyone involved look stupid, even by WWE standards. OK, now I'm sounding like Brandon from "With Leather". Not that that's a bad thing, but he articulates the point better, so I'll just leave it here.

I agree with all of that, however while wrestling Vince and being turned from Heel Punk into Pussy Punk are mistakes they are not ones that led to the incident last night.

I get what they are trying to go for here, a guy who has legitimately proven over the past year that he is the Best in the World who only wants respect and feels he has nothing more to prove. Ryback and Cena are the same in that they don't back down, they are full steam ahead. Punk is now backing down and it sets up what I'm sure the writers think is some brilliant contrast between Punk and his two primary challengers. All it is doing is whittling away at Punk's remaining main event cache, presumably in order to benefit Ryback, right? I mean Cena does not need the help so I suppose this is all either to launch Ryback or it is just plain old incompetence.

We are talking about the wrong issue:
TNA star Hulk Hogan appeared on the Howard Stern radio show on Tuesday morning and as you can imagine, the topic of Hogan's sex tape came up.

In response to rumors that the woman in the tape was Heather Clem (Bubba The Love Sponge's estranged wife), Hogan confirmed that it was indeed her.

Hulk said that the tape was filmed 6 years ago, when Hulk's marriage to Linda was falling apart. After Hulk was getting verbally and emotionally abused by his now ex-wife, Bubba gave Hulk his blessing to "sleep" with Clem.

Hulk admitted that he was an emotional wreck at the time and that his "performance" wasn't up to par.

Hogan says he's working with police to find out who released the tape, because he swears he didn't know he was being recorded.

Hulk vows to press charges against the perpetrator and is working to block the tape's sale/release.

Been part of the "rasslin' biz" (cute, real cute) since 2004, married to a pro wrestler who recently retired. I may know a thing or three.

Punk was in the wrong (though I put more blame with the slow-ass security). Should he be fired? No, but he shouldn't be lauded for his actions either.  If it was a fan entering the ring, on the other hand, all bets are off.

2012-10-09 06:29:11 PM
During last night's Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring into the stands as part of the show. WWE security was unfortunately not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk's persona as a 'bad guy,' fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him and one struck in him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.

- WWE statement on the incident, per Link Deadspin.

1. That is not an apology from CM Punk, it is one from the WWE on Punk's behalf. Weak.

2. I am glad, however, that WWE realized Punk's actions were indy-league biatch antics and necessitated a statement of apology.

3. The statement neglects to mention that Punk is the one who set the tone in the stands by slapping people's hands away and shoving a fan to his right, well before the backhand and pieface to the sunglasses guy. You're a "bad guy" going into the stands at the end of the show, when fans are boozed up and amped up, and then you start slapping people away and shoving people? He's damn lucky he did not hit a kid or woman and he is even luckier that the fans did not do more to him. He's the one who bears the most blame in this.

Punching, slapping, shoving, ridiculing, and insulting fan may be the reason he gets no respect. The guys very much into himself. This respect thing is not just a gimmick, Punk has always demanded it. He is a great wrestler but a shiatty celebrity and I assume he likes it that way.

The fan merely asked Punk what time it was. Turns out it was clobberin' time.

I honestly do think the last year and change will prove to be Punk's zenith. There is not much else WWE can do to make the guy a crossover star like Cena, Rock, or Austin. He has this myopic view of hierarchy and titles and such, just watch his DVD. He does not get that the most memorable thing he has ever done in wrestling was a pity party for himself. Watching him in the stands last night and then watching the DVD documentary today just make me feel kinda sad for the guy, he's pathetic. He has no idea that he has not ascended to the top tier, he has just raised the bar for the second bananas of the WWE.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that WWE is playing this long con type of rib on Punk and making money off of it in the process. He actually thinks he's the guy, and he may even be paid like he's the guy, but he is not the guy.

Man, you must be suffering from a serious case of blue balls, what with your hate boner throbbing all day only to find out that Punk's not going to get fired for it. And I'm sure it's getting all the more painful as you realize you're not going to get that release you're begging for as the evidence mounts that he was provoked several times and the fan that got decked was the unlucky one who touched him last.

Tell you what, go dig up the footage of Punk crashing and burning early in his career and fracturing his skull and finish yourself off to that.

Ah, the CM Punk backlash has finally began in earnest!

Though to be fair, you can't blame Punk for the beginning of his downward spiral. WWE had gold in the Summer of Punk 2, but pissed it away. Then they further ruined Punk with the drunk daddy storyline, followed by making Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk unbearable by making Skipper the main focus of the feud.

At this point, the respect storyline rings hollow, because Punk has been a joke for nearly a year.

I would like it if it is revealed that he was the one standing up to Vince.

I like Punk the wrestler. He seems like he gives a shiat about the titles which is refreshing. But like most "punks" I enjoy what they do from a far. The closer you get to the punk they worse it gets.

I don't think he is a lifer. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he got out sooner than later. The celebety doesn't seem like something he wants.

I will root for him in the ring because he is pretty damn good.

I said after the shiat angles of this year that Punk is getting older, beaten up, and doesn't have the candies the rest of the boys do to get him through the pain, so I think he signed this one last big contract and is just letting them do whatever they want to with him so he can collect his retirement money and get out.

I don't care if he is fired or not, I'm just reacting to the developments. I do care about fairness and consistency, however, and it does chap my ass just a bit to know that the NBA paid dearly for the Artest thing while Punk's incident last night will likely be glossed over, but whatever.

Punk was not provoked, he was the provocateur. Watch the tape. Slaps a fan's hand away, shoves the fan directly to Punk's right, and then the backfist/pieface combo. Maybe he is like totally your most favorite wrestler of all of the times and stuff but I don't really give a sh*t. Facts are facts and biatch antics are biatch antics.

I disagree. Pay attention to the man in white who also claiming to have kidney punched Punk. Should Punk have put himself in that situation? Probably not. But he has been in the crowd before without much incident. This was a fluke for him.

Yup. Kidney punched and pushed him in the back of the head with enough force to knock it forward. At that point, he's got a right to react because for all he knew, someone could have been trying to injure him.

The big difference from that and previous instances of Punk going into the crowd was the lack of security. You almost always see security in those situations making space and keeping the fans away from the wrestlers.

Understood, and you make a well stated point. I have to counter, however, by stating again that Punk set the tone in the stands. He slapped a fan's hand away and shoved another fan well before the part that you mention. Punk is also shoved in the back hard by someone to his right well before Punk smacked the sunglasses guy, and Punk only reacted by staring towards the pusher. Right or wrong it set a tone of back and forth between Punk and the fans that escalated out of control.

Also, since it appears to have been misunderstood, I genuinely don't care what does or doesn't happen to Punk or WWE over this. I do think the guy who was smacked around deserves some sort of make good but it's not a federal case or anything. I just enjoy watching these sorts of things evolve from the time an incident happens through the aftermath. Twitter has made real time voyeurism of developing stories completely fascinating.

Yeah, I can see how Punk's attitude stoked the fire, but fans (particularly grown ass men) should know better. There's a difference between "patting" a wrestler and slapping and punching. Smacked guy deserves at least a formal apology. Hopefully they can avoid making it litigious and shower this man with tickets, freebees and whatever he wants. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. That being said. The next wrestler who has to hit somebody better make damn sure he'shiatting the right somebody.
/I wonder if Whitesleeves guy can get charged with anything if this becomes a case? Assault? Attempting to incite a riot? Disorderly conduct?

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but where the hell was security? They pretty much know everything going on and it was only until after the incident that they arrived.

CM Punk... I think he's done. He's a complete mark for himself... It seems like he takes this more as a fan than as a business....Bleh!

He's "done"? Really? Because he smacked a fan? If every wrestler that smacked a fan was "done", there would be no pro wrestlers.

I don't believe that he's done because he smacked a fan... I think he's done because they've given him the ball to run with several times and he's just never reached the level they want him to. The only thing he's done that's impressed me was his "shoot" promo... After that he was burried by Triple H and Nash and never recovered.

I don't know of someone mentioned it on here or another site, but they picked up Punk because he had mild buzz around him and they never knew what to do with him.

How do you succeed when you look at the wrestling business as a fan, and not a business.

Punk is a mark for himself... He's a glorified, over exposed version of Raven.

Plus no one will get anywhere until Cena is gone...

Hogan had to jump to WCW before WWE moved on, and that even took 6 years.
