This.

He was unpunished for his previous dishonesty and so he's taken that as permission. We, as a society, have an opportunity to make a stand against this level of dishonesty, this type of extremism, and so on.

Romney then pledged to boost defense spending, saying, "I will roll back President Obama's deep and arbitrary cuts to our national defense that would devastate our military." He also claimed that the "size of our Navy is at levels not seen since 1916."

Both statements are highly misleading. First, these "deep and arbitrary cuts" in the defense budget (he also calls them "catastrophic") will go into effect only if Congress cannot agree on a deficit-reduction plan. Last year, Congress agreed that if they couldn't devise such a plan by the end of 2012, the entire federal budget-including defense-would be cut across the board. (Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, voted in favor of this pact.) Obama's actual, existing military budget for next year-which amounts to $525 billion, plus $88 billion for overseas operations (in Afghanistan and elsewhere)-is only 1 percent below this year's budget.

As for the Navy, a single modern aircraft carrier has enough firepower onboard to destroy 1,000 targets with impressive accuracy. To compare the might, range, and speed of today's vessels with those of 1916 is absurd-and an insult to the Navy.

Romney's going to lie his way to election day. Here's the question: Will it work?

One can hope that people will educate themselves. This is the part of being bootstrappy that I agree with. Education. Get educated and educate yourself further.

For at least 48% of the population, apparently.

It could. My own brother told me today that he "doesn't like Obama, doesn't trust him and thinks he is racially disturbed." He also told me that Obama got his ass handed to him in the debate the other night.

The fact that Romney lied in virtually every sentence is lost on him.

It is for this reason that I fear for humanity's existence. We are too lazy and stupid to really care and it will cost us eventually.

Finally, Romney proclaimed, "The 21st century can and must be an American century." This is where he and his advisers, many of them Bush-Cheney neo-cons, share a dangerous assumption about the world.

That part alone should scare the shiat out of anybody who's paying attention.

I spent two wonderfully isolated years in Micronesia. I highly recommend it. The politics there are modeled after the US, with just as much graft and greed, but as an American with some money you're part of the .001% so it won't affect you.

Yah but the thing is the people who would vote for him based on these lies WANT to believe they're true. People will believe no more and no less than what they want to believe.

I hope to God Romney doesn't win, but if he does it'll be because too many people don't want the truth anymore. They want to be charmed and seduced and told all their beliefs are valid.

Just because the Obama friendly media says Romney lied does not make it true. Obama for nearly 2 weeks claiming some video is what caused the death of the Amabassador, now that was quite the lie.

Is your name Brick-House modeled after Brick Tamland from Anchorman? Because you seem to be just as retarded.

There is a difference between a statement from the White House about a single incident turning out to be wrong and a man getting on stage in front of tens of millions of people and telling lie after lie after lie, as Romney did.

Romney was debating with himself, verbally opposing nearly everything he had been campaigning on for the previous few months. Then he flat out lied about his tax plan, about Medicare and scores of other things.

There is no merit to what Romney was saying.

And since you are spelling liar as "lier," I am going to assume that you are actually retarded or a troll. Now, go get a job.

This is SUCH a cherry picked talking point. Our Navy is actually exponentially larger than it was in 1916, but he's referring to the number of heavy cruisers and battleships in service.

He has another one about the 'Air Force since 1946' or some such that is equally bullshiat.

The fact is that Mittens is trying to run on Reagan's foreign police from 1980, and it ain't farking 1980 anymore.

He brings up a point that I've been thinking about for awhile now, in that a singular strike against an American embassy is evidence of a complete foreign policy failure. There was a time, not too long ago, when our embassies were blowing up left and right. It happened so often that we would just launch some Cruise missiles and flip the channel back to whatever we were watching. There was a time, not too long ago, when three-thousand people died when planes crashed into buildings. Tragic as it is, if an ambassador and a handful of staff is the worst outside attack to happen on Obama's watch, he's doing pretty good for himself.

It's easy to judge from the peanut gallery, which is where Romney sits now. He isn't privy to the internal machinations of the White House and what it's negotiating with foreign terrorists and governments. It's all pretty much a black box.

But on the other hand, we can see what the results are. An Israel that wants to go to war with Syria and Iran. Dead ambassadors. Budding Islamic theocracies across Northern Africa. Al Qaeda has infiltrated the police academies of Afghanistan, and soldiers are still dying there.

I'm sure there's a good way to spin this, but it's a shame it has to be spun to get any sort of silver lining out of it.

2012-10-08 10:53:46 PM
Coming out and saying that Obama has signed ZERO trade agreements when there's pictures and video of him signing several... and NO ONE in the Republican party gives a shiat... is why anyone who identifies as a Republican is shiat

(there are other reasons too)

fta As he has on other occasions, Romney asserted that a president must "use America's great power to shape history," not to let events shape America. But the fact is there are no superpowers in today's world; no country has as much power to shape history-or as little immunity to the influences of others-as America did in the Cold War era. To exercise true leadership, a president must come to grips with the limits of his or her power. This has nothing to do with notions of "American decline." It has to do with the shattering of the Cold War world.

Dear Mittens. It's not the 1950s anymore. Sincerely, Everyone.

Aside from the attacks on 9/11, there were other events that happened under Bush and inside our borders.

Shoe bomber. Anthrax attacks. Beltway sniper.

But hey, a consulate was attacked in a war-torn nation, so that means Obama is the most incompetent President ever.

It almost makes you think, maybe he should win. As bad as it'd be, it might be rock bottom for us, and maybe we'd all take a hard look at not only the system that allows this man to be within single digit percentage points of the Presidency, but the fact that we're all pretty much OK with this, because it's entertaining.
