IoSaturnalia: jigger: IoSaturnalia: I had simplified my service down to just internet, too. Then the Comcast "contractor" showed up at my door with a list of every midget tranny porn site that I'd been to in the last three quarters. URL, where and when.

And?

Why did that necessitate your buying cable? What channels have midget tranny porn?

The joke was suggesting that aggressive Comcast sales people will go so far as to use blackmail to get folks to sign up for full service.

We get that, but seriously, what channels have midget tranny porn?

Jument: jigger: Jument: People around the work hate Americans because you stick your nose into international affairs far too often.

Who's "you" and "your"? Don't collectivize us into something that is actually represented by the US government.

Last time I checked your government was elected. By the people. Since the country was founded.

Elected by a small minority of about half of the adult population of each jurisdiction with a choice between giant douches and turd sandwiches. These people are simply not representative of the entire population of the country.

When I left Cablevision for FIOS, they would come by once a week. I had one guy almost in tears because I told him the reasons why I left. He could not fathom that Cablevision sucked. He told me how much had changed yadayada. I told him I just had them 6 months before, how could they have? Their standard (this was before most channels were HD) were grainy. Their internet sucked at 5pm when everyone was home (Fiber doesn't share usage). And they got rid of newsgroups. How Ondemand wasn't free like FIOS (at the time). He kept trying to get me to switch. He even tried his "why are you so negative" fresh faced, right out of college, life is great push. I told him not liking a certain service isn't being negative. He started to hand me his business card, then thought twice, pushed it back into his wallet and walker away, droopy faced.. You'd think I killed his dog. If he took that hard, his life is gonna suck. Poor kid.

I'm as pro-gun (and anti-door-to-door salescritter) as anyone on this site, but come on, y'all, stop reinforcing the negative stereotypes.

Lucky for me I have a gun, a hammer, an axe, knives, sticks, a kitchen ninja, dremmel tool, cast iron pan, a big stupid dog, a little stupid dog, avs an oversize pillow. I'm good for any possible threat that might come to my door

"Are the police here, yet?"

"I figure they'll arrive with the coroner. You just stay there and I'll be back in a sec."

Hey, like, imagine if any old Tom, Dick or Harry could start up their own cable company and not treat their customers like veal. Too bad we don't live in a free society.

Possibly your best ever. I expect you will never exceed this statement.

Wow, the ITGs are out in force today.

2012-10-09 07:44:50 AM
once again, I'm glad of my doberman. Had a couple of "sketchy" individuals going door to door in my neighborhood one day last week. Rang my doorbell once, and my dog scared them away before I could even get near the door. Somebody called the police on them -- wasn't me -- and two squad cars showed up, with three cops who ended up marching them out of the neighborhood.

This is what usually happens when people are going door to door in my neighborhood. My dog prevents me even being bothered.

It must be horrible living your life in such fear.

And when the problem really is a nail, a kind word and lots of sympathy is no substitute for a hammer.

The My Little Pony Killer: The cops had been called on them the week previously. That's why they made the comment about calling the cops to the woman from the article.

Again, you simply close the door. That's it. No salesman is going to waste their time harassing somebody who clearly has no interest in buying and will not buy no matter what you do. They'll go find a soft mark to sell to instead.

Something about this story frankly stinks.

One of the few benefits of living in Texas. Violent salespeople tend to Darwin themselves out of business here.

==========

Congratulations. You live in a red state that out-tards them all. Texas is the state where "brave patriots" pulled guns on electric utility workers who were attempting to install new digital "Obama spy" meters on there homes. These same tards then demanded that the same power company repair the electric service heads on their homes (for free) that were damaged by storms, even though the electric service head is the property of the home owner. Typical of red state morons, they are "freedom loving" shills for small governemt when the government requires them to pay taxes, but whine like whipped curs when they fall on their asses, and demand help from that very same government.

Welcome to Texas! Going door to door here in some areas is a bit like playing Russian Roulette. Its like Detroit only with more religious fever and rednecks living in trailers. Your best bet in some rural areas is to pretend to be selling bibles and then slip in your census questions when they let their guards down.

==================

I believe it. These same people refuse to fill out their Census forms because it's an "Obama plot to set up death panels and UN detention camps" yet they will scream bloody murder when they are under-counted and don't get their share of government cheese.

just_another_asshole/jaa: Ika7734: just_another_asshole/jaa: Ika7734: just_another_asshole/jaa: ChicagoKev: just_another_asshole/jaa: ... friends three blocks away can get Comcast and I,m stuck with that other crappy company with to many levels of service..

If you are looking to get channels not cheaply available where you live, there is a workaround.
Just ask your friends to add-on one of the mini Comcast boxes (tuner, does not allow PPV) and to host a Slingbox for you. Should cost all of five bucks a month, or just buy them a six pack every so often.

Mini Comcast boxes? Sorry but I don't see how that would work, stretch cable for three blocks?

looking at Slingbox it appears to work on WiFi, I tried to get Comcast to deliver service over WiFi but the rep I was talking to said they were not able to do so, but he appeared to be considering the idea so maybe some day.

Maybe I'm taking the bait...
Slingbox is a device you put in your house. It transcodes the tv signal into a webpage type deal. You have to setup your internet router to allow inbound traffic to the sling box, then you can watch your tv shows like watching stuff on youtube, but the resolution should be better.

No bait, I have heard of Slingbox but had no idea how it works, so thankz for the info! So I would need to contact Century Link and have some southeast Asian try and do something correctly! Then get that person to switch me to someone in the states that I can understand before the biatch hangs up on me! I'd rather go without!

Actually no. It would be a setting on the wireless router, or workstation firewall rules. You shouldn't need to call them. In fact, the sling box would sit at the house of the folks who have comcast. I may have muddled that a bit. You would be able to leech off of their pain.

My wireless signal does not go three blocks, it wont even go outside the building unless I'm under my window and then it's only about half strength!

The wireless only matters at the house with the comcast. You could be on the other side of the country. As long as you have Internet access, and know the web address of the sling box, you can be anywhere and see it.

See, the thing with the whole "lulz teh internetz TOUGH guy, haw" thing is, like, I mean, you don't know what any of the people who make statements regarding how they would react to shenanigans would truly do, do you? I mean, you just sit on your ass and type "Z0mg teh ITG!1!" and smirk from the comfort of your chair. So, you don't really know, huh? And since you ain't about to unzip your 30 megabit bubble wrap and go find OUT, you're sort of just smirking from behind your mother's skirt, ain'tcha? See how that works? Meh. Carry, rolling your eyes and giggling. It's not all that entertaining, but it probably keeps you from actually going outside where you might have to mind your manners, so that's useful. I think we need an ISG meme. Fair play and all. : )

What the fark.

Sun Khan: I had this treatment in the Philadelphia area, not with Comcast, but with people wanting me to switch energy providers. The first idiot came to my door on Easter Sunday and wouldn't take no for an answer. He didn't have any ID and had only a metal clipboard with a fake PECO (the default electric utility hereabouts) bill attached, and he kept insisting on coming inside. Since then, their stormtroopers have been by several other times.

You can't help but feel they're either there to case the inside of your house or overpower you once they get in the door. Disturbing as hell.

Goddamn...

thisisarepeat: Because its Washington (North Hippie)? I was pleasantly surprised as well. You should fact check that before you kill somebody tho.

Already have. Only a few counties are hippie - much of the state is rural. But - they have to be generally in your house or business and not running away. Still doesn't mean you will have to defend your actions. It just means you can if needed with reasonable expectations.of self security. It also means that there has to be aggressive action on the part of the attacker.
