"It was just a lot of adrenaline at the time," said Valerie Bauman.

Two workers showed up to Bauman's Capitol Hill apartment Friday night.

"They said they were contractors for Comcast and had the authority to be there and showed me this card and I mean, I've got a deck of cards, I can pull out the queen but I'm not royalty," she said.

They eventually left, but came back.

"One of them smiled at me and said, 'Are the police on their way ma'am?'" said Bauman.

"oh dear, I certainly hope not" I replied. "it's always so tiresome having that felony rape/murder charge on one's record. totally false accusation, I'll have you know. And that cannibalism thing? well that was just made up rumors! so - would you like to come in for tea? it's not like anyone knows who you are or cares where you are, right?"

[cue wide grin]

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

I like that line.

What I don't understand is this...

They say the company told them since the salesmen were contract workers, it's hard to pinpoint who they are.

So, was the salespeople trying to sell people to get Comcast (although, you'd think Comcast would give them a list of houses WITHOUT Comcast already), or people there to fix something? If they are just salespeople, WTF is with the "I've got authority to be here" line... GTF off my porch you do. I mean, even with a repair person they don't, but, at least you requested them, or maybe they are claiming that Comcast sent them proactively to fix a problem. Who the hell thinks as a salesperson you have the right to be anywhere?

I hope you are joking.

I think if I were home alone I'd make sure they knew they weren't welcome by shouting to them once and then I would call the cops. I certainly wouldn't open my door.

Yeah, I'll see your "right to be here" and raise you two Shepherds and a .357.

Is it just me, or has the economy bred a seriously aggressive bunch of saleshumans? I'm getting cold-called at home and on my cell, yelled at on the sidewalk, bothered while actually IN the store, etc. Oh, and Sam's Club, here's a newsflash: when you fill up all of the open space in your store with little stalls staffed by what sound like carnival barkers, and they're all hawking DirectTV or some sketchy vitamin drink, it really makes me want to never come in your store again.

Since you never know if someone at your door is who they say are, if you go around pounding on peoples' doors shouting something as suspicious as "COMCAST, OPEN UP" eventually you are going to be facing down an armed homeowner.

It would be pretty amusing to watch one of these guys trying to give his sales pitch while staring down the barrel of a .44.

Had a weird phone call a few minutes ago, some woman (sounded like she was Indian, dot not feather), and she tried to sell me something, I have no idea what it was as i couldn't understand her pagan dialect. Anywho...she droned on so I started making fapping sounds and moaning, wondering how long she would ignore me and continue her script. She lasted about 3 minutes or until i started moaning "oohhh ya...thats it...take it ...TAKE IT....!!! Then she hung up on me. Sighs. No love.

The customers always appear to be eating shiat whenever Time Warner and Comcast is in the headline.

Torrents are the best source besides live TV nowadays, and plenty of stuff can even be streamed. "Bu-but viruses and piracy!" STFU noob. I watched every episode of Breaking Bad this season an hour before it even aired on the west coast, or even 3 hours earlier if I choose to forego quality and stream it on east coast time.

My buddy has Fios, watches local channels 99% of the time, and cant stay awake for the whole BB episode to save his life. Cable payers are paying like what $60 a month? If you don't watch tons of TV, many people could probably cut these companies out of the picture and still have the goods.

I had this treatment in the Philadelphia area, not with Comcast, but with people wanting me to switch energy providers. The first idiot came to my door on Easter Sunday and wouldn't take no for an answer. He didn't have any ID and had only a metal clipboard with a fake PECO (the default electric utility hereabouts) bill attached, and he kept insisting on coming inside. Since then, their stormtroopers have been by several other times.

You can't help but feel they're either there to case the inside of your house or overpower you once they get in the door. Disturbing as hell.

Last month a Comcast saleslady forced me into accepting technicians to hook up my internet (long story, but she put in an order without my ok). Then, another salesman called and said I could do it myself (which I have done many times anyway due to moving around a lot), and I accepted. Guess what? They billed me for the visit anyway.

I had it removed from the bill, and then paid it through the bank. A few weeks later, I received a bill indicating I had not paid it.

They are either incompetent, or trying to increase their revenue streams any way possible.

I hate Kabletown.

Yup..We just dropped cable...I can get upwards of a dozen DTV signals off a rabbit ear with a booster. HDMI from my PC in the other room out to TV...watch whatever else we want...bonus, co-worker gave me his HBOGO login, so fark cable.

It is highly unlikely that these were comcast workers at all, sounds like thugs trying to trick people into letting them in to scope for things to steal.

Aside from that though... I WISH i could get comcast to come to my house. All my neighbors have comcast... but when I call, they say my address doesnt appear in their system, and that they'll have to initiate a survey and get back to me in 2-3 weeks.... then they never call back.

farking assholes.

I have Comcast internet, but not cable. So I'm constantly getting their salesmen at my door trying to get me to sign up for bundling. One day, when I was at work, they talked to my roommate. She said that the guy claimed that there was a problem with my cable box and they were delivering a replacement. He handed it to her and asked her to sign the paperwork. He had my name as the account holder and wrote "home-owner not present, but gave consent for [roomate] to sign."

Even though I immediately returned the box, it took a couple of tries to get the charges off my bill.

Unfortunately, they're the only broadband ISP in my area, so I'm stuck with them.

I have signs on my mailbox and front porch that say 'no solicitors,' which gives me a legal leg to stand on when I ask them to leave. They never leave the first time they are asked. I also keep a shotgun by the front door and if they don't leave the first time I ask I hold the shotgun at a loose sort of parade rest and say "I asked you nicely and am asking you nicely again. I'm also letting you know that since you ignored two signs that say no solicitors that you are trespassing and illegally on my property. I strongly urge you to get off my property or my next request will be impolite."

/Not really but I do keep a loaded shotgun near me when I'm home due to a batshiat crazy ex-husband of a coworker (that I was never involved with)

I dumped Comcast for a competing smaller cable company. Same exact service, but my bill dropped by $50/month. F*ck Comcast.

"One of them smiled at me and said, 'Are the police on their way ma'am?'"

Paranoid schizophrenia can sure change a situation.

In both cases, the workers pounded on doors, spoke in unfriendly tones and were unwilling to take no for an answer.

CSB time

One time someone came by selling magazines and they were acting obnoxious at the door. So I invited them in to give their pitch but asked them very sweetly "I'm in the middle of something do you mind if I keep at it?" And they said ok no problem. So they started their spiel and I ignored him and proceeded to open up a case and start cleaning a gun. Then the salesdude hesitated said "uh should I come back later?" and I said "Nah its cool, I'm going to be done in a minute." Then he just let himself out without saying anything.

I have never had any problem with Comcast service or tech. Probably because it's fly over where we live. I wish it was cheaper though.
