FirstNationalBastard: And if Gene and Paul had given them their own make-up designs, there wouldn't be a problem.

But, they're low paid replacement employees filling in for the real guys... they're scabs.

/It's a bummer Singer has to be Scab Peter Criss. As you said, Singer is a damn good drummer, and was a member of the last real version of the band before it became the neverending Farewell/Oldies tour.

I can grant you this re: makeup. Putting them in Ace and Peter's makeup was cheap, especially considering that Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent had unique makeup designs when they joined the band in the early 80s.

As for "low paid," I don't know. Tommy has worked with Gene for 15+ years and Eric has been around KISS for 20. They're probably considered employees and not actual "members" of KISS (as Ace and Peter were on the reunion tours), but I bet they get paid pretty well.

The ankh was Vinnie Vincent, not Tommy Thayer or Eric Singer.

Well, "low paid" in relation to Peter and Ace. I'm guessing the original guys would command bigger salaries than two guys wearing their make-up, because promoting a tour with the real Ace and Peter would probably lead to more ticket sales and more money to be had by all.

But no, it's not like Singer and Thayer have to suck dick on a street corner for a crust of bread. I'd guess Kiss pays them pretty well... but probably not what the real Ace and Peter would get.

And now you know why they went back to the original designs!;)

tnpir: For those of you who keep referring to Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer as "scabs," get over yourselves. Tommy Thayer is an accomplished musician, is at LEAST as good as Ace, and in fact helped Ace relearn all of the songs before the first KISS reunion tour. Eric Singer is twice as talented on drums as Peter Criss, and for that matter Eric Carr was ten times more talented on drums than Peter Criss.

As I said upthread, KISS never fancied themselves to be great musicians. All they wanted to be was great entertainment, and that goal was achieved in spades. Gene Simmons, who I used to admire greatly, is a complete self-centered egotistical dick (his biography proved that easily), but his success in creating a brand cannot be denied.

Plus he gets to nail Shannon Tweed every night, which as far as I'm concerned makes him a veritable god.

This argument is crap, because Gene is a merely adequate bass player. There are tons of better bass players so this argument doesn't hold water.

Adequate is all that is required. Not everybody has to be an obnoxious wanker (kinda like your namesake), BTW KISS can probably buy and sell Zappa.

I farking hate kiss...always have, but truth is truth.

Exactly where in that argument did I say anything about Gene Simmons' bass playing abilities?

Before he got lazy in the 80s, Gene was a pretty good bass player. Even today in concert, he has chops. But like the Beatles, their songs aren't vehicles for virtuosity. They're just good songs.

Typical Monkees ignorance is out, FNB already said what I was going to say. Good jorb.

I dare you kids to look up on YouTube "Mommy and Daddy" original lyrics by the Monkees and tell me that they were just some silly boyband. The original lyrics Dolenz wrote for that song were censored for almost 30 years.

Yes, there was twee crap, but the Monkees are way more than "a manufactured image with no philosophies," and to compare them to Kiss is wrong.
