Kiss are a bunch of no talent ass clowns that should have gone away in the 80's.

So the talented half of Kiss is dead?

Ace and Eric Carr?

...Yeah, pretty much.

I'm ok with that

The Stealth Hippopotamus: So I'm going to be the only one that says he likes Kiss more than the Beatles?

I like 'em both, but for different reasons.

You want some good old fashioned fun cock rock, you go for Kiss.

You want great music, you go for the Beatles, post-1965.

Pre-Rubber Soul Beatles, though? Meh.

I hope Paul McCartney has an internet fit over this and puts Geno in his place. You are nothing more than an expert at marketing, Mr. Simmons. Nothing more, nothing less.

Uh... McCartney without Lennon isn't much better than Kiss.

Silly Love Songs or Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime, anyone?

2012-10-08 03:48:04 PM
Don't get the KISS hate.  (No, they should never be compared with the Beatles for sure.)

But beyond that, they're just a fun band.  I don't have any of their albums, but I did see them at a festival (first row VIP access)... and it was a blast.  The stage show, pyrotechnics, the sheer volume.  All a good time.

Who cares?  They're fun.  That's it.

Color me shocked...

AdolfOliverPanties: And with 99% less talent.

Nah, I'd give them fully 10 or 15% of the Beatles talent, so 85 to 90% less talent, and upwards of 75% of current living Beatles talent.

I've still got Destroyer on 8-track. I can't actually *PLAY* it anymore, as I haven't had an 8-track player in almost 3 decades now, but I hold on to it for fear that when it goes, some of my childhood would go with it.

Plus, no one met my reserve on eBay.

Who am I kidding. No I won't.

You can't defend Kiss.

It's okay to like the music up to the time they decided to go for the reunion cash grab, but there's no defending the Gene and Paul Show and their neverending marketing and whoring of themselves.

Monkees on steroids, maybe...

It's not Kiss anymore, it's the Simmons-Stanley group with guest musicians.

Subdue their bellies: Monkees on steroids, maybe...

Actually, I'd say the Monkees were a better group, and had higher standards than Kiss.

The Monkees fought to become something more than a prefabricated boy band whose faces were used for merchandising and nothing more.

Gene and Paul aspire to be merchandised, and that's about it.

Bingo. Kiss was all theatrics, but their music wasn't even close to what The Beatles produced. There are thousands of Beatles cover versions out there compared to like, what, three Kiss redos, tops?

I would bet even Alice Cooper has had more of his songs covered than Kiss. Coop's music was always a hundred times better than Kiss, even on a slow day.

2012-10-08 04:16:39 PM
I bought Destroyer when it came out. I was 10 or 11 at the time. I listened to it once or twice and even at that age recognized what shoddy shiat it was. Maybe it is because I am a musician (even though at that time I had only played piano for about a year,) but nothing about that band impressed me besides the album cover.

I bought it because they were everywhere and I thought I was missing out on something. Turns out I wasn't.

Kiss is not The Beatles on steroids. Kiss is Led Zeppelin after prefrontal lobotomies.

I think he meant The Ramones with make-up and sedated.

But seriously, if he really were alive today, I bet he'd say "The Beatles are more popular than teh jeebus."

2012-10-08 04:26:17 PM
I have a hard time telling the difference between Kiss and most boy bands. They all wear too much makeup, worry far too much about p*ssy, get more attention than they deserve and the "music" is an entirely crap construction designed as filler to round out a stage show aimed exclusively at idiots who only really want to gawk at the bozos on stage...

2012-10-08 04:28:56 PM
I saw Kiss live here in Detroit a few years ago. I'm not a big fan or anything, but I figured it would be interesting to see them in the final concert at Cobo Arena so I bought cheap nosebleed seats. They do put on a pretty amazing show, especially for 60-something year old men. And the people watching was spectacular- I'm guessing it's second only to an ICP show.

Paul's vocals and Ace's (easy but catchy) leads still make me feel good after all this time.

Gene Simmons is one of the biggest douchebags in rock. Right up there with Mike Love. But I'll give him credit for coming up with a concept for a band where the actual members are irrelevant--it's all about the make up and the show. More like the Monkees on steroids.

2012-10-08 04:31:41 PM
hmm lots of the usual hate on here which I expect. KISS has had a very long successful run and people will remember them long after your precious Coldplays or Radioheads are all but forgotten. Accept it, live with it. Because God Gave Rock And Roll To You!

Is it all an act? Not sure, but his Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross was pretty revealing.

Lennon was cremated.

The spot where his ashes were scattered in Central Park became Strawberry Fields.

Well, both were undeniably influential. You know, without Kiss we wouldn't have ridiculous gross rock spectacles and with the Beatles we wouldn't have Muse.

If you take away the costumes and fireworks from KISS, you're left with embarrassingly crappy songs.
