Aarontology: hillbillypharmacist: It only gets worse

"We cannot continue to sustain the percentage of our population that is in prison. No prison term should be longer than two years. Prison should be unpleasant and rehabilitative. Anyone that cannot be rehabilitated in two years should be executed."

So basically, he wants the government kill a few hundred thousand American citizens every year.

Sounds like small government to me!

LouDobbsAwaaaay: Restrict the punishment to unruly children on airplanes, in bars, and in restaurants, and I'll back it.

I'll settle for publicly flogging their parents for being failures at parenting.

It's not the kids' fault that they aren't being taught to farking behave.

This is great. A week ago the Politics tab was filled with Romney hate and then after the debate, crickets. Now people are getting excited about podunk races in podunk states. You do realize that there are 50 state legislatures and probably 300 positions in each so that makes 15,000 candidates. I'm sure more than a couple of the 15,000 Repub candidates are deranged, though of course none of the Dem are.

A Biblical literalist Republican.

I really wish more Christians were literalists. If people really knew what was in that "good" book, they'd stop lauding it so much and trying to base our laws on it.

Devout Christians start from a place where they accept Jesus as the true representative of God and his word. They then, depending on their theology and religious orientation, view the Old Testament in light of the more perfect revelation of God through Jesus. For some, that means that the Old Testament becomes a book of fables and poetry. For others, that means some of the violent, old-school justice shiat is still relevant at least as to principle. A few nutters think that we need to go back to hunting witches and stoning disobedient children. I've got nothing - we've been fighting over how seriously and literally to take the Torah for the past 2000 years.

The overwhelming majority of Christians do not believe that we should stone children.

And yet the majority of Christians site their opposition to homosexuality by quoting the Old Testament verse in the book Leviticus...at least the first part. They leave off the "put to death" part, strangely. It's almost as if they think the Bible can be cherry-picked or something.

OgreMagi: FTFA:

Fuqua, who has been backed by the state GOP and is seeking a comeback, has found himself under attack by Republicans.

Do we accept that he doesn't represent the GOP or shall we just brand all republicans as child killers?

He explicitly does represent the GOP. It just means some members of the GOP disagree with him. Until the state GOP stops supporting him he is one of the GOP representatives.

You see political parties are not like family. In politics you are not allowed to kill the ones you do not want...you actually have to teach them how to behave or kick them the fark out.

On the other hand, he almost had my vote I would support a bill for killing the parents of unruly children. It is rarely the child's fault usually it is the parent that farks up the kid.

2012-10-08 11:56:16 PM
This is what happens when people read bible versus without understanding the language and the context of the time it was written in. When they say son it is meant to mean a man's adult offspring, otherwise in the bible when they refer to children they specifically say child. And when they are talking about being rebellious they are talking about breaking the law, not a child refusing to take out the trash or breaking curfew. So they are saying that it is a father's responsibility to bring his adult offspring to the elders for punishment if he knows that his offspring is breaking the law, and the elders will decide on the punishment, which could include death depending on the offense. It isn't an endorsement from the bible for parents to have their kids executed for refusing to do their homework. Only an idiot would take it that way.

I really think he meant for parents to discipline their kids before they became unruly. You know, the ole 5 million volt cattle prod trick. That always seems to work. Oh, and then ground them (not from electricity) for a month after they come out of their paralytic state. That will stop the little bastards from wanting a bag of M&M's in the check out line.

Too bad for you, he explicitly says that he wants there to be a mechanism for parents to give their kids over to the civil authorities to be killed if they (the parents) decide to give up on them. Now, he says he doesn't "think" that there has ever been a situation where this has occurred (meaning he hasn't bothered to do the research) but even without checking, he wants there to be a way for parents to allow their kids to be executed just on their say-so. This is what he wants.

Nice guy. As are you.

I always thought it was common knowledge that pro-lifers don't give a rat's ass about the life once it's popped out.

That's because once it's born, it can't be used to control the woman's behavior anymore, though I think that's not common knowledge (except among women).

That's what you get for trying to convert a Hebrew war god into a god of love. The Nicene council should have jettisoned the Old Testament and all of that "fulfilled Jewish prophecy" horseshiat. At least then you guys could have shaped your deity into a consistent entity that makes sense. The two versions of God you lot have to try and squeeze into your brains are not compatible in any way.

Well, when you think about it, wouldn't that make sense? He's a Christian idiot - if anybody's going to push religious extremism in the United States, well, it should be Christian extremism. Competing products should be forcibly expelled.

What should scare you is that the thinks most people agree with his beliefs. It's not the few extremist Christians spouting this nonsense that scare me - it's the vast mob of moderate Christians keeping their mouths shut and not castigating this extremist behavior more directly and publicly. That's what gives this moron the idea that he has tons of support for murdering children in the name of his God.
