Newt Gingrich: Romney Flip-Flopped On Tax Cuts

*gasp*

2012-10-08 10:37:17 AM
I hate defending to Romney, or rather the latest stable release of Romney, but didn't he say he wouldn't cut the *share* paid by the rich? If he said he would cut x% across the board then he can still make the argument that he has been consistent.

2012-10-08 10:55:20 AM
Bet he got a nasty-gram from the GOP party after that appearance.

2012-10-08 11:19:17 AM
Why is Romney often referred to as 'Governor Romney' on the campaign trail? He has not held that position since Jan 2007.
And if he is trying so hard to run on his record as businessman instead of his political record, why doesn't he request everybody refer to him as 'Mr. Romney'?

Brontes: Bet he got a nasty-gram from the GOP party after that appearance.

Bet he uses the nasty-gram to wipe his fat backside.

Newt apparently has absolutely nothing left of his political career except the pundit circuit. Admitting the blindingly obvious helps keep his reputation as a maverick going.

Supposedly, that's what cutting these tax loopholes are supposed to do.

Either way, I would not be surprised to see R'money win the election all because of flip-flopping. Because, hey, Newt said it's "good politics." And who DOESN'T want to go to the beach??

2012-10-08 01:32:13 PM
This is great. All the GOP primary retards are getting cabin fever and anxious to throw the Mittster under the bus.

He's said he would cut loopholes and deductions to make up for the loss in revenue but the math has shown you can't make up for the loss in revenues from only closing loopholes and deductions - it's false bullsh*t. And even if it was true, what's the point of lowering the tax rate for the wealthy if their burden is the same?

The truth is that he'd lower the tax rate while not cutting loopholes or deductions enough, and the net effect would be another reduction in revenues that won't be offset by gains in GDP growth and won't result in lowering the deficit. Anyone with half a brain knows this.

Voting for Romney is voting for the same bankrupt policies of George W Bush. Anyone who doesn't see that is a moron.

It apparently also goes for anyone who is retired from:

Congress
the Presidency
Military (at the Colonel level or above I believe).

He's not flip-flopping. He's XORing. Completely different.

If he's cutting the "share" that rich people are paying without cutting their actual taxes, he'd have to raise taxes on poorer people or businesses. So which is it? Either way, he's lying.

2012-10-08 01:35:50 PM
You don't want to piss Newt off. He'll put the knife in anybody's back.

This Is Your Modern Republican Party.

2012-10-08 01:38:10 PM
Newt's trying to Romney a favor by drawing attention to the idea that Mitt would not cut taxes on the wealthy.

2012-10-08 01:39:32 PM
As much as I hate Romney, I like him infinitely times more than Newt. Newt is a piece of human garbage; as much so as Warren Sapp.

2012-10-08 01:43:08 PM
Ugh. Don't make me defend Romneybot. Seriously, Gingrich would tell me I'm going to hell for being an adulterer, even though I've always been faithful to the woman I was with, and said woman was not cheating on someone else when she was with me, even though he's cheated on women he's married. He'd call me a junkie and a menace to society for getting stoned on Friday night with my friends, at my house, and nobody drove home afterwards, even though he's done far worse. He'd call my cousin a sinner for leaving her husband, who was abusive, even though he left his own wife because she got sick.

/Fark Gingrich

Sounds like Newt wants to run in the 2016 presidential race. That ego will stop at nothing to get what it wants.

Yeah, right. Because Congress has done the exact same thing the past four years, haven't they.

Governors keep their titles, as far as I know, much like Presidents or military officers.

And I thought it was bad on Meet the Press yesterday when Newt said Schwarznegger had no political credibility left and could not run for office again because of his marital infidelity.

I think it was Bill "I cheated on my wife when she was 20 ' away in another room" Clinton said people don't care if you flip flop as long as you're flipping in their direction.

No. He said he intends to cut taxes on the wealthy, and then assumes that because their wealth and income will grow as they make new investments that their total share of the tax burden will not decrease. IOW he intends to give the wealthy a bigger piece of the pie and the result will hopefully be revenue neutral.

And that whole narrative (like most of the garbage spoon fed to the masses by the left) is complete garbage.

It's not a good idea to throw stones when you live in a glass house.....even if you throw like a him.

Great. Now I only have 861981 reasons to dislike Newt instead of 861982. What a difference a subtlety makes.

You do realize that Newt wasn't "Future Newt" travelling to the past, right? Newt didn't know his wife was going to survive. Just because things turned out all right doesn't mean that in the context of the moment Newt's actions weren't utterly scumbaggish.

Eh, no. He wants to do a few things: an across the board 20% tax cut along with a repeal of the AMT, estate tax, and capital gains tax. Then he wants to close loopholes for income taxes. The idea is that the 20% cut is mitigated by the income tax loophole closings, while the extra economic activity will trickle all over us and pay off the other repeals.

So he's saying we'll get the best of both worlds - their taxes won't go up, but they won't go down and they'll go up.

[csb] Daniel Arap Moi, President of Kenya, once demanded half the profits from McDonald's once they opened up in Kenya. McD's told him to f*ck off.[/csb]

I wouldn't put it past Romney to just ask for half the profits (via taxes) on abortion clinics. He's smart enough to know that the best way to get around a thorny moral issue is through economics.

From your link:

Mother Jones, Nov. 1, 1984: Jackie had undergone surgery for cancer of the uterus during the 1978 campaign, a fact Gingrich was not loath to use in conversations or speeches that year. After the separation in 1980, she had to be operated on again, to remove another tumor.

While she was still in the hospital, according to Howell, "Newt came up there with his yellow legal pad, and he had a list of things on how the divorce was going to be handled. He wanted her to sign it. She was still recovering from surgery, still sort of out of it, and he comes in with a yellow sheet of paper, handwritten, and wants her to sign it."
...
Jackie Battley, Jan. 3, 1985: He walked out in the spring of 1980 and I returned to Georgia. By September, I went into the hospital for my third surgery. The two girls came to see me, and said Daddy is downstairs and could he come up? When he got there, he wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce while I was recovering from the surgery.

He's still an amoral farking scumbag.
