Oh yeah. I do that all the time.

Honest mistake, Mr. auditor, honest mistake.

failed to report almost $130,000 in pension income

How many people could accidentally forget about this sum of money....$13,000 a year. This is what is wrong with our leaders. He's either a lying fark who believes he's above the law or he is an ignorant fark out of touch with the people he represents.

I could see a fair number of 1%ers forgetting $13,000. Difficulty: It was $130,000.

If it's legitimate, I'm sure his fundraising shut itself down.

130,000 over 10 years = 13K per year

And on top of that, as per article:

Akin last year amended personal financial disclosure reports to reflect property assets worth at least $355,000, following the newspaper's investigation, the Post-Dispatch said.

It's okay. Ya know laws have a way of shutting down in these situations and very rarely result in convictions.

This must be one of those tax loopholes that Romney found. Look, he's doing the president's job for him arleady!

The fact that his reporting shut that thing down proves it was a legitimate omission. You know that filings have a natural way to shut that down.

If it's a legitimate mistake, does that mean it can have an abortion?

$13,000 a year. That is about $3000 than I make in a year, and that's just a *supplement* to his income. How the FARK do you forget something like that?!

/Granted, I'm a grad student, but still.

If it's less than 10% of your income and that income is greater than 100,000, it's probably plausible. I can't speak from experience, but I will probably be writing big checks (that I can't afford) to my executive board next year, and since I make less than 100K, I sure as shiat will not be forgetting that / will be writing it off.

He didn't want to fill out the disclosure form. He kept saying no, but the pen was forced into his hand and he just had to sit there until the form was finished.

When I was a poor student I would have agreed with you 100%. But it is disturbingly easy to not realize where money is going when the sums get larger. Not defending the twat, since you'd better have good accounting as a public official. Just saying I never needed a budget when there was no money to budget, but now that I'm pulling in real dough, if I don't keep track of everything quite carefully I could easily start to bleed hundreds a month without even really noticing.

For someone in the mid 6 figures with sloppy personal finance, a grand per month could easily be coming in and going out without anyone even realizing it was there in the first place, especially adding in family.

Please don't lump KC and STL in that group. Seriously - we are two totally separate countries, within one states borders.
