ecl: Sinister 161: ecl: Sinister 161: Moopy Mac: Sinister 161: This man is no hero.

/UK tax payer waiting for him to pay us back.

He's paid more taxes than you have. A LOT more taxes than you have.

And did he agree to pay for this security? Or even ask for it?

I can guarantee that in % of income less what has been taken out that I have paid much more tax and I haven't written a book designed to anger conservative Islam and then go running to the UK government for protection when the predicted outrage occurred. He could have paid for his own protection but decided that the taxpayer should pay the bill.
He's done really well out of that fatwa, a decent human might be inclined to pay back the country that protected him from his own stupidity.

/yes I've read the book and was utterly unimpressed, literately genius he is not.

You're first sentence is nonsensical gibberish.

Then allow me to unravel it for you so you can comment on the subject not my grammer. What I meant was that if you calculated as a % of earnings the tax both I and Rushdie pay then deduct the value of the public services we used (of in his case used) I guarantee I contribute more nett to the UK than he ever will.

Do you have hard evidence to back up these claims or is this all true just because you feel like it's the truth in your heart?

Well according to records the cost of protecting him during the fatwa was approx £1 million per year, he would have to pay at least that amount back as tax each year as well as the usual public costs that all tax payers have to contribute towards before we would even be equal.
Of course I'd be happy to withdrawl my claim if it can be proved that he paid more tax than his protection and society costs but until then I have no reason to change my belief that not only did he write a book with the expess plan to cort extreme reaction and then the UK taxpayer had to pick up the bill.

Is English your first language?

It is and it's my nationality too. Perhaps you should either respond to my comments and not my grammer or accept I have my own point of view as I'm sure you do too and respect that. Your choice sir.

I'm trying to be civil.

While I know it's quite fashionable to claim you've read, but didn't enjoy The Satanic Verses, I must say that I quite liked it.

And I don't often like fiction, although I do try.

/Just saying, if you've allowed the snobs to prevent you from reading it, you've made a mistake.
//Also, it's fascinating to see a fark thread about a smart, accomplished man that disparages him for not looking like a model. So, wow.

I'm a programmer; working with Indians who are terrible at their jobs all day has turned me off of all of them, even Padma.

dittybopper: Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Minka Kelly over Lakshmi? Nah. One is internationally famous, gorgeous, and very talented. The other has had a nice career and is gorgeous, but there's no comparison.

Yeah, but with a name like Minka, she *HAS* to be good.

I don't necessarily agree... yet, somehow, your argument is valid.

I'm not a Grammer Nazi. (Though now that I think of it, I did just correct "your" vs. "you're" on a sign in the coffeehouse where I'm sitting. But that's something anyone would do.)

In any case, however, no one could be one, because IT'S SPELLED "GRAMMAR"!

Also:

I contribute more nett to the UK ... not only did he write a book with the express plan to court extreme reaction and then the UK taxpayer had to pick up the bill.

Note that I'm not addressing your anti-comma holocaust. I'm just being a Spelling Nazi, which is an entirely different thing altogether.

/Oh, BTW, I agree with you
//but that's not important
