I like the build-up of a back-up plan of Punk vs. Ryback. Why won't they go with that? The fans want that, not Cena going for the title for the 700th time.

Just be like Cena here - hulk up five minutes before showtime, put the FWC on your back, and head for that gredunza!

Chyna as She Hulk and Hulk Hogan... the broccoli stalk vs. the carrot. And someone is playing with Brutus Beefcake's pierced nipples while Zeus watches on close up, his wonky eye the backdrop to the clash of the genitalia that looks like vegetables.

I'd honestly go with that rather than Punk-Cena; let Cena win at SS to stop Punk just shy of one whole year. It's a bigger PPV for a title change anyhow. Play it off that Punk is ducking Cena or that Cena won't be ready in time. As for Ryback, bad move to have him squash the IC champ and immediately in the title picture. He can't possibly get the belt so at best you need Punk to cheat to win or a no decision when Cena tears the cage apart with one hand (at which the monster Ryback yields to Cena).

From the article it sounds like he can still sell a Brogue Kick on Sunday night at a house show. He's fine. Maybe he misses a few days so an owwie heals up, but he doesn't sound injured to me.

Got the RAW from June 16, 1997 on in the background...

Not only did the Undertaker job clean to Kama, but Ahmed Johnson got the 'Taker up clean for a Pearl River Plunge (it's a sitdown double underhook power bomb for y'all who don't remember Ahmed... similar to the Batista Bomb).

That was impressive.

The funny thing is is that many call 1997 one of the worst years for WWF creative. It wasnt until Montreal until the WWF really took off (or so they say). I must admit that I loved the Austin/Hart feud.

Maybe the first half of the year wasn't great. But everything from, say the April PPV on was pretty good. Shawn Michaels started becoming DX Shawn, Bret vs. Austin kicked into high gear, Paul Bearer laid the groundwork for Kane's debut... '97 was a pretty good year, overall. Definitely nowhere near as bad as 1995, which may be the year you're thinking of as the worst year creatively.

'97 was the worst financially.

I wasnt watching in 95. I started in early 97. I was just going off what I have heard in shoot interviews about how in 1997 the WWF was getting their asses handed to them because the WWF couldnt find a way to combat the nWo angle and the awesome wrestling.

This. '97's problem was financial, not booking. Booking was pretty farking great.

In other news, John Cena's starting off Raw tonight.

Yeah, WCW ruled the ratings war in '97, but without '97's quality booking chipping away at the lead and slowly turning heads as Nitro ended for the 486th time with a nWo beatdown of WCW guys, there's no '98.

They were getting their asses handed to them, but that was more because of how hot the NWO was than the product WWF was putting out.

'97 was a transitional era. They were trying new things, even going so far as to work with ECW and put their guys on RAW, but Vince hadn't completely pulled the trigger yet., That didn't happen until Brian Pillman died, and then the Screwjob happened, and gave WWF the angle they needed to combat the NWO. But without the groundwork laid over the course of '97, Austin vs. McMahon and the Screwjob never would have happened.

Now, 1995? 1995 sucked. Diesel was champion and mediocrity reigned supreme. Diesel vs. Mabel (Viscera) was the main event of Summerslam. Barry Horowitz vs. Skip was one of the few interesting feuds in the company. Everyone had a day job, like being a trash man, or a plumber. 1995 sucked.

Mabel was a BIG FAT HEEL. Hogan went over BIG FAT HEELS for years and made money hand over fist! Why wouldn't DieselHulk be as successful if he had a BIG FAT HEEL to go against?

That was pretty much it. That and something about ICOPRO.

FYI,
Republican US Senate candidate Linda McMahon currently holds a 3-point lead over her Democratic opponent Chris Murphy, according to a new poll released by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This is on the heels of a Quinnipiac University survey last week that showed McMahon up by 1 point

Also, no matter how bad Cena is, I'm sure JBL, JR, and hell even face Cole will make it seem better.

He wasn't.

He had just spent the previous four years fighting to stay out of federal prison on steroid trafficking charges. 1995 was his first full year back with his mind focused on the WWF, and he didn't quite realize yet that time had passed him by and the cartoon crap was no longer working. And then Nitro came in September, and Vince still couldn't adapt.

btw, reading Kanyon's book. It's interesting. Not only because he was a gay wrestler but because of how much it talks about "The blood runs cold" angle of Mortis/Wrath/Glacier/Ernest Miller and how it (rightfully) got dumped for the nWo. At a certain point, before nWo took off, Eric thought this angle would be huge because it incorporated karate, video games, and MMA (wtf?). Had nWo not hit, this would have been WCW's main focus. I remember when they ran the promos for Glacier it was right when Nash left WWF so I assumed he'd be Glacier. i'm sure we're all glad he wasn't

I actually loved the gimmicks. It was around Mortal Kombat when they say video games. Sure it would have been the death of WCW and no monday night wars. But I enjoyed Mortis. Wrath was okay only. Glacier not so much. AND SOMEBODAY CALL MAH MAMA for Ernest the Cat Miller

I'm not on board the "Hunter will fix everything because he grew up watching NWA!" train like some others. There's still Stephanie there, who wouldn't be managing a Target if her last name was Jones. They both believe just as much as Vince in gassed bodybuilders being REAL stars, etc. Gewirtz being gone finally is good, but.
