Road race?

Ok, so the steering arm was broken, which explains why he couldn't turn. Was the fking hand/foot break broken as well? holy shiat. You'd think that if you lost steering, the first thing to do would be stop the fking car. Especially when you know there are folks sitting around waiting for you.

Rally drivers are the craziest bunch in the racing world.

The car was set up for a tarmac race, which pretty much means little to no suspension travel, and slick tires. Solberg probably had the brakes hammered down but on leaves/grass/dirt with that setup, there was no way he could get to a safe stop that quickly.

I don't understand why WRC isn't more popular here in the US, there's several good crashes every race.

I think he broke the steering when he hit the power pole. When he went into the vineyard I think he was jamming the brakes and just sliding.

Steering had to be broken first, if not why would you be going perpendicular to the grapes where you can't see what's in front of you? Better to just go straight down a row and wait till you stop, then back up or get out and push. Steering the car in a direction where you can't see AND can't stop would just be...not smart.

First of all, rally spectators are stupid. From the in-car video, the course was a 5/6 left (no shoulder) into that 2 right, so anyone standing there had to know they were in a dangerous spot.

Also, when stopping a rally car that is set up for a tarmac course, the grapes do nothing.

Here is a spectator's view. The laugh at the end of the video alone is worth the view.

FTA: "we had already had right at 50 lead changes"

That's some fine journalism, right there, Larry.

Except in the video you can hear him redlining the engine.

And he admits he was trying to re-enter the course *despite* the broken steering arm, which means winning the race was more important to him than stopping and getting a broken steering arm fixed.

Even Robert Kubica could tell you that was a bad line.
