this is one of those things that's fun to watch the first time only.

after that, it loses luster.

here it is being done in 2007

well, as a former marching band geek, and as someone who just watched this for the first time (that's apparently the only time it's fun), I really enjoyed that.

Aside from the concept, I thought the OSU band did a much better job than the Cal one, but I hadn't seen that one before either.

/yay green!

That was cool, but I'd say the Blue Band doing a space/time travel halftime show a few years back (I do not remember when, but my friends and I all made complete dorky fools of ourselves during it) was probably equally geeky. I won't argue too much, as I love all geeky halftime shows :)

Gotta catch 'em all.

The Cal and tOSU performances were very different, it's not like TBDBITL copied it. I was in the Shoe last night, the crowd went absolutely ballistic when the horse started running.

I take it all back, Ohio. You are awesome.

2012-10-07 07:59:10 PM
Okay, totally appropriate spiffy tag, there.

That was really good. The horse was awesome.

Seconded.

/Is it REALLY a marching band if you only have 30 members?

They had to one-up Ohio University's Gangham Style

/get it? ONE-UP??? I'll be here all night, try the veal

As much as I'm not an Ohio State fan that was great.

If it's been done before, so what, this was new to me.

Never seen a marching band with pryo before either

It seems they save the best shows for night games. I was there in the early 90's when Ohio State played Washington in one of the first night games at The 'Shoe. But the halftime show was Superhero themed and Mrs. Malaise and I still talk about it. It had the crowd rockin' like this one.

Not neccessarily related as I wouldn't call it a geeky show per se, but I never apologize for promoting DCI

Phantom Regiment 2008- Spartacus

/sorry about the not necessarily high quality; the great ones were taken down for copyright/they wanted to sell the DVD better
//one of my favorite shows; don't agree with the judges not giving the Blue Devils the win that year however (albeit by 25 thousandths of a point)
/// +1 to those who know what the fark I am talking about

TBDBITL. I'm not sure about other universities, but at the 'shoe, no one leaves their seats during halftime. This is a comment from the you tube site:

"Hey guys, I'm a member of the OSU band and was lucky enough to be on the field last night for this performance. We received the music for this show on monday and started learning the drill that day. This was a true one week show, and we had music checks over it on friday. I'm glad everyone has such a positive opinion of this show and I know all of my friends on the field with me appreciate it too. Thanks!"

the live actions tetris did it for me

Whatever. Put them in uniforms and helmets and Alabama will still beat them. If it weren't for College Football Money they wouldn't even have a marching band. Marching bands are for military units. Tell them to go sit down and be fifth flute or something. Geez.

1983 Phantom ... with 1812 Overture was better, even though they didn't win.

//really old DCI here.

From watching these marching bands do video game music, it seems like the only video games that have the most impact are always Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Halo.

Sorry, and Tetris and Pac Man.

Guess it'd just be cool to see more obscure, or less obvious, games get chosen

What would be the point of that? Halftime shows are supposed to entertain the people that are there, not the twelve hipsters that might recognize the tune of some long-dead nes franchise theme song. I'll be filing this complaint under W, for Who Gives a shiat.
