Generally, large police forces have one officer per 500 people. So, Detroit (~717,000 people) should ideally have around 1,434 police officers. Sounds like the police chief thought that police staffing should remain constant, despite Detroit's population dropping by 25%. While he or she may be right in light of Detroit's demographic and economic challenges, it's hard to justify extra police officers when your government's broke.

I knew a black guy that was like that, but he only hated on the 'thug' like black guys that use broken English or weird slang that all the rappers are using today, yeah, he would use the 'n' word about them in disgust. I wouldn't say he hates himself or his race, just dumb-asses that look and sound ridiculous to him.

Yep, I ran a summer program where many of the kids (all were black) would use the term "dim digger" to describe people acting like dumbasses.

NYC has about one officer for 230 people. that doesn't include school safety cops, traffic enforcement, or auxiliary. Detroit has a comparable ratio.

Looks to me like the real news here is the related article on the lower left about a cop actually being convicted of a crime and incarcerated for his actions in the course of duty. I think I could count the number of times I've seen that in the news on one hand.
