FTFA:

Mercury himself might have been dismayed at Queen's continued existence. "He hated the idea of bands getting back together. Oh, no, no, no."

Damn right.

There are very few things that truly offend me. Queen continuing to exist without Mercury is one of them.

If Brian May and Roger Taylor wanted to stay together and put out new music with the vocalist of the week under any other name, no one would mind. Hell, the music would probably be pretty damn good.

But to keep shambling around as Queen after Freddie Mercury is dead AND John Deacon has washed his hands of the whole deal?

Paul Rodgers is a very old friend of the band's and he did an admirable job. I don't begrudge them for wanting to play music that they love. What happened to Queen wasn't their fault.

As much as I love Sacha Baren Cohen, it's utterly ridiculous that a man who's 6'4" is playing someone of Freddie's short (but larger than life) stature.

Oh Freddie, you could never be boring.

RIP and thanks for the music that was so much a part of the soundtrack of my youth. It just never gets old.

I caught the official tribute band that May and Taylor put together. It took double (and then some) the number of musicians to get close to the sound of Queen, but it's DAMN good.

You know they have techniques to make people look shorter/taller than they are in real life. Look at Tom Cruise.

Maybe it's the angle, maybe the look on his face, maybe both, but this is the most Indian i have ever seen Freddie look

It's utterly ridiculous that anyone would try to sing like Freddie. It simply can't be done, so shut up and go away.

(Truly, my understanding is that Mercury had a truly exceptional vocal range that makes his songs impossible to sing as he did.)

Freddie, you were never boring and you are still missed.

The closing ceremonies for the Olymipcs proved that Freddie 21 years dead has more stage presence than ALL modern pop stars.

I can never get enough of that pic, or others like it, I saw Queen back in 1980 and when Freddie came out on Vaders shoulders I was going nuts as Star Wars was a favorite of mine at the time as well... thanks for posting

Ditto. A friend sends it to me every year or so along with a message like, "Just a reminder that ur gay hahaha!" I think he forgets every time, which is why he keeps sending it.

Might as well do another one.

He would not be 'writing classical' music not did he have a classical type of voice no matter what the people interviewed have to say; their comments were made to make Mercury seem better than he actually was which was an over-the-top creature of the studio.

Freddy Mercury: The Boomer's Liberace.

I liked Queen and saw their first tour. It was good.

That's...actually a pretty good call. But being able to sing dramatically doesn't mean that he can actually act.

Best vocalist I've ever heard. I'm happy that there are people that emulate him because he is a worthy rolemodel for any singer, but only when they do it in their own style rather than imitation.

Ahem

This guy nails it. Too bad he's the singer in a Christian rock band. If he could act, they should just go ahead and cast this guy...

Re The movie: I think Cohen will pull it off. We all know he's the kind of actor who "lives" his roles for awhile. As far as vocally, I'm sure the filmmakers will use Freddie's voice in all of the important bits.

Re: Those of disparaging Freddie's voice and talent: Regardless of what you think of his voice, (I personally think it's a wonder, and am constantly amazed at his tone, and ability to work in different styles) he was electric on-stage and a true original. One of the best frontmen in rock history.

Did you see any of the Lord of the Rings movies?

(John Rhys-Davies is 6'1" tall, and plays a character that is, I guess, of order ~4.5 feet tall)

The writer is a rube who totally ignored the 70's glory days of Queen. According to her, "The Miracle" was their first hit album.
So sad.

I think it doesn't matter:
Freddy being awesomeness itself, no addition of Darth Vader or whatever can make it more awesome.
