can't wait to see the penalties imposed for this one. I can see a loss of a few scholarships and a multi-year ban on post season play.

Plus vacating all Illinois wins back to 1978. So like, what, eight wins?

He should get fined for putting such a shiatty team together.

Well, he did have the nerve to use a product that does not have a sponsorship deal in place with the NCAA. And as we know, the most important part of college sports is making sure everyone gets paid. Except for the players, of course.

To be fair, he didn't put this team together.

But if we are going to break rules, they may as well be ones that help us win. Or at least cover the spread.

After Penn State and OSU it is time the NCAA lay down the law on aB1G school. Death penalty for UofI.

Seriously, dip is a secondary infraction? We are a pussified country

I am actually pretty sure U of I is under the scholarship cap this year and will not be playing in a bowl... so sure... why not make it official.

Tell that to my boss who dipped for 20 years. Dude's in the ICU after 12 hour surgery this last week to remove part of his jaw and tongue due to mouth cancer.

NCAA infraction? I dunno. But coaches shouldn't be dipping on the sidelines.

Was he ever fined or did he face suspension or firing for dipping?

Smoking bans I understand, because of the secondary smoke...but if you wanna chew or dip, that's fine with me.

U of I does not have the pull that PSU does, the Illini won't be able to broker their own punishment.

The most embarrassing thing Zook ever did was that stupid swinging gate extra point.

balki1867: \\ Disgruntled Illini season ticket holder since 1998

Good grief, you must enjoy... grief. I had season tickets from '95 to '98, featuring the Lou Tepper Death Spiral (5-5-1, 2-9), the debut of the Ron Turner era (0-11, 3-8), and the 18-game losing streak that spanned three seasons.

Much like Mark Twain and Halley's Comet, I never saw Illinois ranked during my 4.5 years there. They were ranked in the '95 preseason polls, when I was a freshman, fell out immediately after a Week 1 loss to Michigan, and were never ranked again until the final poll for the 1999 season, two weeks after I graduated. I thought I had it bad until the Class of 2007 got to see them go 8-38 between 2003 and 2006. But at least they got a Final Four trip out of that mess. The basketball team was on probation while I was there.

I think we had a year and a half together at U of I. My first game was the MTSU game (freshman year) that broke the streak (Rocky Harvey FTW!). I've kept renewing since graduation because of the young alumni plan, and now the cheap horseshoe tickets. I get to about 2-3 home games every year. I still haven't made it down this year (mostly because I was training for the marathon), but now it's hard to convince myself to make the daytrip :-\

I guess I lucked out a little because we had a really good team in 1999 and won the Big Ten in 2001. But I also graduated the year before the final 4 appearance and missed out on the campus experience for that (I did the 6-year plan, but it involved grad school).

Penalty

Penn State should be able to send a coach or two in to try and recruit a couple players.

Wait a minute, why bother? They don't have anybody worth the effort.

If he didn't spit on someone's shoe, then it's no harm no foul.

I generally support this line of thinking. Though, being stuck next to somebody chewing is abso-freaking-lutely disgusting (football game once, was so happy when the Pennsyltuckian decided to leave early)... But, at least someone else's chewing doesn't affect my health, so, what the hell, if he wants to, he can practice his revolting habit and kill himself slowly.

I used to play soccer in a league many moons ago. At the end of the season, there would be a weekend long playoff tournament. Our team won the tournament the last year I played on this specific team. We had a pretty big party to celebrate.

I was pretty drunk and reached for my bottle, and gave it a shake. I could have sworn I'd already emptied it.

Turns out I had, and one of my buddies decided to use it as a spittoon for his chaw.

I quickly realized my drink was now lumpy and did the ole spit take, probably would have puked had I swallowed.

*Shudder* I was about ready to experience my breakfast in reverse, and I just had to stand next to the guy while he spit out his used up chaw. And I suppose, I also had to suffer his attempts at drunkenly hitting on me...

I learned to check all bottles the much easier way. Watching a friend kill a beetle he caught in an empty bottle by roasting it over a candle (after feeding it some pretzels and chips). He was more than a little drunk (he had a hard time getting home a few doors down after the party). Of course, he was a bit odd sober, too.

I got the 99-02 seasons... which by U of I standards is the gold standard - 2 bowl games.

I got part of the final four experiance by keeping my gf down there and coming back.
