I was hoping Big Bird would tell us about New York's hottest club.

I was kind of hoping that he'd make some sort of actual statement, but I guess it makes sense that Sesame Street wouldn't want to wade into the political debate so publicly.

Same here. It wasn't bad, but they probably could have gotten something decent out of asking Big Bird how he felt about potentially being fired.

Considering the amount of PROFIT CPB/PBS/CTW make it's appalling that they take government subsidies.

Greedy liberals/Leftists aren't above scamming the system, no matter how 'holy' and above the need for filthy lucre they claim to be.

Norm was even better than Big Bird

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, sleepy truckers are responsible for one thousand deaths a year. In second place? O.J. Simpson at two deaths a year.

Was O.J. Simpson high on speed the night of the murders? "Absolutely not," said Defense Attorney Johnny Cochran today, "and a simple test of any of O.J.'s blood found at the crime scene will prove it."

According to O.J. Simpson's niece Terry Baker, when O.J.'s mother, Eunice Simpson, first heard about the slaying of Nicole Brown, she exclaimed, "He did it!" Reached for comment, O.J. said, "My mom was just guessing, I hadn't even told her yet."

Our top story tonight: This week in the civil trial of O.J. Simpson, the jury which had earlier had found him liable in the deaths of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson, this week tacked on an additional 25 million dollars in punitive damages. On hearing the news Simpson declared "This is far from over". Asked to clarify that statement, O.J. said "I'm going to kill more people. What did you think I meant?"

Hard to believe O.J.'s buddy Don Ohlmeyer fired Norm

How much does PBS receive in subsidies from the Federal Government anyways? Considering fare like Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood, Reading Rainbow, etc., couldn't they just subsidize it as an educational subsidy?

Fair enough. But, the amount of money they take in from subsidy is barely a fraction of what they take in from private benefactors.

Meanwhile, your tax dollars are blowing up brown people, bailing out auto companies and underwriting foreign oil interests.

Care to impart your outrage on any of those points?

Muppets were in the cast in SNL's first season. I miss Skred, Pluvis, and The Mighty P'vogg. That's probably not spelled right, I'm working phonetically from 30-year-ish memories.

Who??

Seriously, nobody respectable has ever been behind that desk. Only one or two of them were truly funny, and Norm was certainly not one of them.

There was something this week about how it was .012% of the total US budget. In other words, a talking point that sounds good for the GOP sheep, but wouldn't mean ANYTHING if they actually freed up the funds.

Not one mention of Assistant Crack Whore??? You cannot have a Big Bird thread without an Assistant Crack Whore mention!

The Big Bird skit was effective because it reminded people what a good thing Big Bird is, and how Mitt is a meanie for wanting to kill him. The only other good skit was Kate McKinnon as the Monkey Jesus Painting Restorer. It's kind of weird that the only funny skits were G rated.

They're the crack whores that you meet each day!

In today's society with the internet, Ustream, 500 channels, etc. is there really still a need for PBS?

Public broadcasting has to be publicly financed because it has public in the name and there is no way to change this.

mjbok: In today's society with the internet, Ustream, 500 channels, etc. is there really still a need for PBS?

Well, PBS could be replaced by highbrow private channels like The Learning Channel, which now shows Honey Boo Boo. Or the Arts and Entertainment Channel, which is mostly devoted to shows about people buying storage lockers. Or the Discovery Channel, home of "Ted Nugent's Gun Country."
