Low Earth orbit delivery of freeze-dried ice cream isn't exactly interstellar....

And now I know the name of the tune that has been slowly driving me insane all these years... I swear, my last apartment, the jackass ice cream truck driver would sit for half a damn hour as all the dirty little rugrats continued to crawl out of the woodwork.

Interstellar means going to another star, subby. This thing isn't even leaving earth orbit.

SSHHHHHHHHHHHH! You'll upset the Space Nutters. Let them have their delusions. "Commercial" was also another Nutter dog whistle thrown in there, as if all the previous space junk was put up there by volunteers...

They'll usually play Turkey in the Straw, but they'll play Home on the Range when they're carrying weed.

Considering that the return cargo is 500 urine samples, I doubt that our brave space heros are indulging.

Actually, george decided that there should be no fun of any kind and retconned it so that that thing that guy was holding was a harddrive with a bunch of rebel secrets on it.

Musk, who monitored the launch from SpaceX Mission Control in Hawthorne, Calif., called the capsules Dragon after the magical Puff to get back at critics who, a decade ago, considered his effort a fantasy. The name Falcon comes from the Millennium Falcon starship of "Star Wars" fame.

Was a pretty launch, and this is a good step in the right direction for our nation. This is the first US cargo mission since Atlantis went up for the final time in July 2011, so a little more than a year later and we're back to delivering cargo regularly to the International Space Station and possibly more importantly bringing the science back to earth. Now to see which American company sends humans into space first, I say it'll either be Boeing or Space X. Space X is the clear favorite, what with already having a working spacecraft that has already done three orbital missions. Your move Boeing and Sierra Nevada.

JolobinSmokin: under a socialist no doubt

NASA's Commercial programs started under Bush, but were brought about because of what's been happening since the Nixon era.
Space and politics are a bad combination because the powers that be want to treat it like another iron triangle.
They kept the shuttle because it was profitable to the right people, not because it was the right machine. Even after the program had disintegrated due to a lack of vehicles and never hitting any of its goals, they kept fighting for it at the cost of far more promising options. Eventually killing every replacement until nothing was left.

Conservative VS socialism isn't mattering because it always boiled down to money and which state gets it. Greed takes precedence and causes bad choices.
Going commercial, while it makes big leaps in technology less likely, is the only way to remove the engineering part of our space program from this destructive political system.

/Going to orbit for an affordable price should have just been a matter of engineering.
/That can't happen when a senator dictates you must use specific components made in his state.

Shuttle was designed from the beginning to build a space station. Too many compromises in the design to be sure, and space station funding kept getting cut leaving Shuttle without the mission it was designed for, until we finally joined with the Russians, first docking with MIR and then building the ISS.

The ISS should have been completed in the 90's and Shuttle replaced by 2000.

The part of the article that mentions they will leave the craft docked for a month while they fill it with piss, blood and shiat has given me a terrible mental picture.

One day I was earning some money, clearing some brush out of a backyard in an unfamiliar part of town. Suddenly the theme for "The Andy Griffith Show" came blaring from.. nowhere. I couldn't pinpoint where the sound was coming from, and the clarity made me think I was losing my shiat and hearing things...

Then an ice cream truck rolled by. I'm still impressed by the quality of the audio off that truck.
