No, that would be Indiana Jones in Temple of Doom.

2012-10-07 09:18:59 AM
Look, I know you already have one Morgan Freeman character on your list, but you really should have had Red instead of Andy.

Stinger in Top Gun?!? Not Viper? meh

Short List and their crappy interface can go to hell, no matter the subject.

No Sean Connery from Highlander?

ShortList should change its name to ShortBus.

Honestly, subby does have a point. Giving the Libyans a bomb probably would've caused less harm than making a time machine.

One of my favorite Back to the Future is when he bribes the cop.

Mugato: No Sean Connery from Highlander?

"Patience, Highlander. You have done well. But it'll take time. You are generations being born and dying. You are at one with all living things. Each man's thoughts and dreams are yours to know. You have power beyond imagination. Use it well, my friend."

Pretty loose idea of what constitutes a "mentor" here.

Exactly...
No mention of Denzel Washington in Training Day?

I'd doubt that given how Libya is today.

I always loved the casting of that movie.
"Hey, I know. Let's have the Frenchman play a Scot and the Scot play a Spaniard. Sean Connery can act Spanish, right?"

What no Patches O'Houlihan?

What an incredible ending...the last Immortal given omniscience but with the price of mortality. I wonder where they would go with this? What kind of amazing story would they tell next?

*Checks IMDB*

*shick--shick*

Give my stuff to charity.

*BOOM*

/I know; tired sequel meme

I know their UI sucks, but he's up near the top.

He's not Spanish, he's Egyptian.

Yes, but the casting was wonderfully bizarre.

Egyptian and also obviously spent time in Scotland so his accent would be irrelevant. Him playing a Russian with a Scottish accent in that sub movie, not quite so. But as long as it's vaguely European, it's all good.

At least Doc Brown is a mentor; a lot of those characters just aren't.

Well, now that he is mortal and can have children, I'd do a Leto II type sequel. What kind of powers would his children have?

Been a while since I've seen the film. Forgot about that. I always just remembered him as The Spaniard.

Also, too bad Queen didn't get a chance to score a couple more films during the 80's. Between Highlander and Flash Gordon, they did an awesome job of it.

They mention Yoda but not Kenobi?

Just looked up Clancy Brown (The Kurgen) and found this tidbit:
Although his character Rawhide dies in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), he is still under contract to appear in a sequel to the film.

I take it Darth Sidious is on the list?

I was going to say Lawrence Jamieson (Michael Cain) from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but then I decided on Janet instead.

Robert1966: At least Doc Brown is a mentor; a lot of those characters just aren't.

Was he really a mentor though or just some creepy old guy who liked to hang out with teenage boys? Marty wasn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. I don't think he was gathering any lessons about particle physics from Doc.

texdent: They mention Yoda but not Kenobi?

Yeah because Obi Wan was such a kickass mentor to Anakin. I think raising your apprentice to be the #2 Dark Side user in the galaxy gets you the "worst Mentor. Ever" award.

I see that more being Anakin's fault with his mommy issues.

Nah, he still gets worst mentor for ignoring Yoda's warnings.

He's not Russian. He's Lithuanian by birth, raised by his paternal grandfather, a fisherman.

yeah, pretty much.

"The entire jedi council thinks anakin is a dangerous little brat that might destroy the jedi order and we think that we'll pass on training him"

"bu...bu...but I promisssssssssssed"

"oh, ok"

doesn't say much for yoda either.

Well apparently even Yoda isn't above the council's ruling. None of that changes the fact that Obi Wan raised a little kid who was admittedly a little prick into a monster. Anakin's marriage to Padme was right under Obi Wan's nose and at the end Obi Man didn't even dispose of Anakin properly. No, sorry, bad mentor. He didn't do Luke too many favors either.

The Wolfe from Pulp Fiction? Also Jules from Pulp Fiction? Father Bobby from Sleepers? Chubbs from Happy Gilmore? Hanks in SPR? Kostner in A Perfect World? Coach Gordon in Mighty Ducks?

An early draft of Back To The Future holds that two years prior to the first movie, Doc turned up in Marty's garage and offered him $50 a week to borrow his records. It's likely that this was all part of the predestination paradox that closes up the first movie and Doc was using the record collection as a pretense to make sure Marty was there to steal the DeLorean, ensuring he'd go back to 1955 and convince Doc to build the time machine in the first place.

Miyagi sensei is my favorite mentor on the list. Yeah, more so than Gandalf and Yoda.

PanicMan: One of my favorite Back to the Future is when he bribes the cop.

When I was a little kid watching it for the first time, I thought he really gave the cop a weather permit.

They just gave them "One Vision". I don't know if there were any other Queen scores, aside from Highlander and Flash Gordon.

49 men and 1 woman? Damn. How about:

Miss Havisham in Great Expectations.

Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music.

Judi Dench as M in the James Bond series.

You stay away from my girlfriend! Took me eight years to finally get her to watch Buffy the tv show because she was so obsessed with the movie.

/Admittedly, it's tough to say no to Paul Ruebens' reaction to getting staked.
