I'd say it's a waste, but I'd probably have wasted it on bubble gum and comic books.

The Taj Mahal already exists, and if given the choice nobody is going to visit the replica over the original. If I had the money to waste, I'd build something like a crystal castle or Escher house or some other unique building.

Why not build full sized replicas of the great pyramids?

If you are going to think big, then think big.

Tacky over-done knock-off of an existing beautiful structure? You didn't even have to mention it was going to be put in Dubai. New money continue to demonstrate they have no taste or class.

Dubai can go fark its artificial self in its volatile butt.

Well, it could have been in Las Vegas, the other tasteless, classless desert disaster.

My first thought would have been Vegas.

It's been said by several FARKERS before, but when the oil runs out there will be a lot of decaying ruins in that part of the world. If they were smart, they would be planning for that future.

/ same goes for us in the West

Even with eight rounds of a golden age, it's not going to save them from my rifleman, grenadier, and cannon zerg.

You'd think Dubai would first put in a working sewer system.

I think they will end up just putting in urine recyclers in the theme park.

Slave labour generally does a poor job at maintenance. Just look at their Atlantis hotel.

Dubai's an example of what you can do with a pile of cash and Pakistan laborers who work for wages that make the chinese envious.

I work with a woman who had to go to Dubai on business. She said that she couldn't imagine why people would holiday there as it was like holidaying in the Canary Wharf financial district.

At least they'll have somewhere nice to shelter from the dust-storms when the oil runs out and they don't have a pot left to piss in.

Fail if i want to see the Taj Mahal id go to India. Honestly its not gonna cost you any more to go all the way to India and the curry will likly be better.

This isn't the first extravagant use of cash for Dubai. If they were smart they could be spending those billions in developing their own freaking space program, or fund research for a space elevator located in their country (maybe they are too far from the Equator, though?).

You would have hoped they learned from the last time they based their entire economy about building oversized construction projects without the demand to support the investment. Hell - they have a rather prominent 2700 ft tall reminder in the center of their city.

Dubai isn't that a mega mall of the coast of Saudi Arabia ?

And a crazy psychopath is running the city? Heart of Darkness set in Dubai.
