Oh, it's still D&D and LARPers and even the SCA from time to time, it's just now they have "super realistic" (um, no) video games to add to the list of things that are obvious signs your child worships teh debbil.

Obama4Life: SlashmanSG: Pretty sure we've got a repeat on our hands here, but I'm too lazy to look for the other one.

Could be. I recall this story breaking about 3 or 4 days ago.

Even if this is a repeat, it's a good story. Besides, not everyone reads every story on Fark everyday, so I think this whole repeat rule should be relaxed a bit. Within the same day, yeah, I can understand but a day or more later? Who is going to go paging through old posts that have rolled off the page already, and been closed to further comment?

And FTFA: "Republicans accused Democrat Colleen Lachowicz of living in a fantasy world and making "crude, vicious and violent comments" in online forums"

Coming from right wing fundy Republicans! The irony is too rich, I need a phlebotomy.

I don't know. D&D used to be the work of the devil as far as the fundies were concerned, so this might be the same.

It's just trying to make something that is relatively popular into something weird. "She goes into a DIFFERENT WORLD called AZEROTH where she can KILL".

It's liked describing a football fan as someone who spends the weekend watching 22 young men, often dressed loosely as animals or racist caricatures smashing into each other, sweating, and patting each other on the ass. Some of these boys no older than 18!

FTFA: ""We need a senator who lives in our world..."

Funny, coming from people whose core beliefs include an invisible sky wizard who acts more like a drunken deadbeat dad than a loving being, the USSR being the largest threat to our very existence, and who believes that the female human body can not become pregnant if she is raped by turning off certain things.

Cause I tell ya what... if their world is reality,

Whoops. Wrong tab.

Eh, it probably still makes sense.

/The correct comment was supposed to be "Eh, the debate over Orcs is probably more intelligent than the usual political debate in this country."

Yes, Republicans, please continue to remind the younger generation that you dislike them and everything they enjoy. That will be a winning strategy for you.

Curious: clowncar on fire: Don't take it so personally- it's politics. It will be all better after the election.

you wouldn't know that by recent history.

and by recent history i mean anything after the attempt of impeach Clinton.

Which Bill Clinton wasen't doing anything nobody else in Congress wasen't doing. His only mistake was getting caught.

But it's funny, when it's about a Republican *cough* Mark Foley *cough* all of the sudden it's 'A private family matter'

"As far as we're concerned, it's not a 'World of Warcraft story,' it's a 'candidate saying outrageous things through World of Warcraft story,'" he said on Friday.

Uh...the mailing said: "We need a senator who lives in our world, not Colleen's world"

I'm not sure how that statement could be construed as anything BUT antagonizing and condescending to people who play video games.

What really happened was the GOP realized after the fact that potentially insulting 2/3 of the voter base wasn't a great strategy and they've now swung into damage control mode.

DeathByGeekSquad: I feel bad for her opponent, apparently he's anti-mudslinging and this was done without his knowledge (has consistent spoken against attack ads prior to this campaign).

Please. He knew, he just didn't think there would be this much backlash and is now trying to do some damage control

Hmm. It does raise an important issue though. Choice of hobby aside, if a farker were to run for an elected political position... imagine opposition getting hold of their fark posts. Some of the comments made by Lachowicz kind of resemble the type of comments posted on fark.

Wodan11: Secondly, I'd actually expect republicans to be more pro-gaming than democrats. Several angles... gaming is all about personal empowerment, use of weapons, etc.

And that's exactly how they'd be defending any Republican who was catching flack for doing what Lachowicz is doing. Their guiding behavioral principles tend to boil down to "Anything Dems do is bad, and anything we do is good," in case you haven't noticed.
