lennavan: sno man: Yes, that poster made me smile.

As far as the topic, this is not new news for anyone that has been paying attention. That no one is doing anything about it is shocking. Anyone with kids getting educated in America should be all over this, how can you do this to your kids?

I send my kids to private school. Problem solved for me.

So, you got yours and f*ck other people, huh.

I know you think you're being snarky, but trust me, if they thought they could change the laws of ballistics like they can change the teaching of evolution, the GOP would be all over Smooth Bore Ballistics and deride Rifling as a mere theory.

I aint being snarky. It is a serious question. I cannot remember most about what the controversy is, so I threw out some tags hoping to jog memories from you guys.

Michael Moore talking up a movie called "The Revisionaries"?
Irony called. It said it wants a six-week vacation to recover.

But I digress. Could be an interesting watch, but I think it will be preaching to the choir.
I don't think the creationists and anti-intellectuals have a fighting chance.
Their children are being raised in the information age, and their entire social experience is now built around "Hey, look at this thing I found on the internet!"

The kids aren't completely safe from being manipulated, but the parents have an impossible task if they think they can keep the young from seeing and hearing the opposition.

Children: "No!"
Adult: "Sure they were! We don't know."

WTF?! The amount of undiagnosed mental illness in this country is astounding.

AlanSmithee: Alas, the movie itself is a a very depressing doc.
It must be draining for sensible Americans to be continuously fighting the creatards.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were only the creationists, but these days right wingers live in their own little alternate reality bubble regarding just about everything. It's just a theory right now, but as the idiocy, bigotry, and greed of the plutocrats and theocrats running the right are becoming clearer, I suspect the cognitive dissonance required for regular people to remain Republicans is slowly driving them insane. It would explain a lot.

So as a bit of a Devils advocate here I postulate....."what if we rational people are wrong?" I am a fan of Darwin, I don't believe in evolution, I accept the evidence and believe that. I think these people that trumpet "bible God" are just afraid that if they modify their beliefs they will burn in Hell for all eternity.....

It confuses me that a God would give free choice to us and tell us a story and then provide sooooooo much evidence that his story was BS and then tell us we will burn in hell for not accepting the story. But he loves us. He loves us soooooo much. he is burning us in Hell forever for the failings he gave us because he is concerned and loves us.

I just don't get it.... Shout out to GC

Man, I think the trailer ruined my day...I might get suicidal if I saw the whole film.

My favorite was
"Were there dinosaurs on the ark? Sure there were, we don't know"

Really? You know there were, maybe, possibly, you're pretty sure it's true because some book written about a flood and an ark says it happened, even though it doesn't mention dinosaurs?

I pay taxes, so I'm paying entirely for my kids to go to school and a portion of your kids to go to school. You're welcome. What do you want, me to raise your kids for you? You don't like it, go biatch at your school principal or something. My kid doesn't go there, so I don't really get a say other than when it comes time to vote.

Your kids are not my problem.

If the children are never taught critical thinking skills, then when presented with the opposition, how are they going to react? Experience tells us that people seek out things they agree with, and ignore things they don't. More than experience- this has been confirmed experimentally in behavioral studies.

It's possibly one of the worst aspects of the Internet age- it's so easy to search for what feels good, without regard for what is true.

The only place I've heard anything like that is during office talk among my right-wing coworkers who listen to a lot of am radio. I may have missed it, but I haven't seen anything in the papers or heard any politician proposing the idea. The technology exists to individually id each bullet and tie it to its purchaser, and I would support such a program, but again, I haven't heard any serious discussion.

What is a fundamental atheist? Someone that points out that religion is nothing more than a fairy tale? Spoiler - It is.

I understand your point though, it's just wrong. There's no such thing as organized or militant atheists. I get why that narrative is so popular though, because its easy to dismiss the truth when you can group people together into one easy to villify party.

Now give me a fun anecdote about how an atheist came to your door to tell you about how your God doesn't exist.

These points are probably correct, but a little well-deserved ridicule can still serve a purpose. If nothing else, this movie can do something about the complacency that says "oh sure, I know the fundies are out there, but they don't affect me, so...."

That's not true. Religion is more than just a fairy tale, it's a fairy tale utilized to gain money and power from the population.

No one ever went to war over Snow White and the Seven Dwarves but people go to war over whose magical sky wizard is better.

She's technically running again, but her time and money are caught up in the lawsuit that David Barton (the Wallbuilders douche who just had his book pulled from shelves for being too derpy) brought against her for telling the truth about him in a campaign commercial.

How about "make sure they are educated, fed, given proper healthcare, and not neglected, beaten, abused, sexually assaulted, or discriminated against"? That would be the proper thing to do for other people (especially children) in your society.

You, personally? No. But as a society, we absolutely should be ensuring that all children receive a quality education, and part of a quality education is teaching children things that are true, as well as critical thinking skills so that they can figure out what is true on their own.

The original question I replied to was of course about individuals. How can any parent not be doing anything about it for their kids. I am. Suddenly that became some tirade about how I want all of your kids to die or something. Me sending my kid to private school, no longer worrying about him learning derp, apparently means to the Fark community I want all of your kids to starve and be abused or something.

Tards.

No, but it is your duty to participate in society. Part of that participation is actively fighting derp. You're the one who said things that implied, "My kids are taken care of, so my obligation is met." My kids are also taken care of (they don't exist), but my obligation to fight derp has not been met.
