For the record: I think the SEC is highly overated this year.

This edges Notre Dame closer to the NCG

Notre Dame doesn't play a tough enough schedule to be considered for a BCS game - even if they're 12-0.

They play the Trees and University of Spoiled Children. I'm thinking they'll have trouble with 12-0.

I don't think they'll go 12-0. In fact, I don't think they'll qualify to be bowl-eligible this year. But even at 12-0 they don't belong in a BCS bowl.

So... Who pissed in your koolaid this weekend? Your football team isn't ranked higher than Notre Dame? Why not blame the Jews? Also, who cares?

This is why even road and home schedules must be required. All these power teams dropping it on the road. Even schedules!

Bama and South Carolina look legit. Most of other teams look rather pedestrian. Then again, not many teams from any conference are standing out as unbeatable this year.

6-10 should all move up, with perhaps Florida leap-frogging a few of the others.

Alabama
Oregon
S. Carolina
Florida
Kansas St.
W. Virginia
Notre Dame
LSU

Hard to say as a Duck fan, but little brother deserves to be in that list after today.

Does UGA drop out?

I'm not sure. They really got their asses kicked. A competitive loss is better than a blowout loss. Among the best one loss teams, USC and LSU were competitive in their losses.

To channel the great John Madden, that's the thing. I would agree in years past that the SEC was head and shoulders above the rest. This year though, not do much. I see the ACC as bottom of the barrel, followed closely by the Big 10. I'm not trying to be a dick, just calling it like I see it. The Big 12, PAC 12, and SEC seem to all be about equal. I'm sure the picture will become clearer later in the year, but right now they look about the same.

Whoa, weird sequence in the Cal/UCLA game. Cal fumbles inside the 20. Their D forces a fumble back to the 5 then UCLA throws a long pick.

Curious how many first place votes the Ducks will be getting come tomorrow. They're getting more and more impressive with each game.

I'm thinking they will get a few, especially with the Bama Bye (voters tend to forget what they haven't seen in a week for some reason).
I'm a Duck, but I don't agree with Millen. Bama would have the edge in that match up right now. Oregon could score on them, but Oregon is still making too many little mistakes that a team like Alabama would take advantage of.
Oregon's defense is much improved though and probably its best squad in years. They would do a fine job keeping the game close.

I'm with ya, I think it would be a great game, but Alabama would have the edge. Mariota is extremely talented, but he's just a little too young and makes a few too many mistakes to keep base with Bama, and DAT/Barner can't win the game by themselves. It is nice to see Oregon finally have some good D though.

chuckufarlie: lecavalier: chuckufarlie: lecavalier: It is absolutely infuriating watching Navy or Army when they have the ball. On nearly every snap, the wingback will go in motion before stopping and then the entire goddamn offense turns and looks towards the sidelines for the audible. Are you telling me West Point and Annapolis students can't call their own audibles or that the whole offense has to look at the sideline?

You could:

a, take your meds.
b. change the channel
c. both A and B
d. go get some cheese to go with that whine.

1. I finally said something after a couple of years of seeing this; it isn't like I just snapped after seeing it for a half.
2. I have money on Navy.
3. You are complaining about my complaining, so shall I offer you some Gruyere, too?

I guess that you lost your gonads betting on another game.

I went 2-1, as posted above.

Tell me you don't find it farking strange that the only teams to do this are the two service academies. Plenty of other 'bone/option teams - with farking morons - don't need the entire offensive unit to spin around and look at the coach. The beauty of the 'bone is in its simplicity, too, making it all the more confusing. Did you graduate from Annapolis or West Point or something?

EVEN THE GODDAMN GUARDS SPIN AND LOOK!

As long as Richt is the coach they never deserve a top 10 ranking since there will always be a time when he farks up and shiats the bed, every year he does this so there is no need to even get excited as long as he stays the HC, the team looked completely lost that game and that blame falls squarely on the coaches. His style of coaching does not work on 4-5 star recruits, when he had 2-3 star recruits he got more out of them with more success, he needs to be coaching at a school like boise/tcu/smu where you get lesser recruits but respond to that style of coaching.

I will still come here and biatch about other teams but its hard to get excited about my team when you know he will let them down and then show no emotion about it during or after the game, I want Grantham as HC, someone who will rip off the head of opposing HC and shiat down his neck, not this "Awwww shucks we lost fellas" attitude.

Its obvious that Richt is not a big time college HC, just leave and take Bobo to be your biatch.

2012-10-07 11:22:34 AM
Oh and thank god for North Carolina State, I did not want UGA shiatting the bed to be the lead story for me to see every time I turned on sportscenter, with them knocking off another over rated team it gave me some lead time to change the channel instead of seeing that shiat.

Oregon has been getting first place votes but I still dont think they are a great team, yet. They dont match up well against large D-Lines and that is the biggest issue between SEC/Pac12&big12 style offenses, once that large line starts pounding on them they dont last long and wind up getting pushed around, look at LSU/Oregon last year. That game was not nearly as close as the final score led you to believe, LSU just pushed them around the field.

Though I personally think Alabama is the best team in the country that I've seen play - both 'Bama & Oregon sit atop the polls thanks to their initial pre-season rankings (as much as for their performance on the field). Yes - I am one of those who think pre-season rankings are b.s. that disproportionately skew the rankings for the rest of the season. In my perfect world, the first rankings wouldn't come out until the end of Week 6. But that will not happen any time soon....

As to your comments about how the Ducks match up against large D-lines, there is evidence for and against that. They killed Stanford last year and Stanford's D-line last year was huge. Wisconsin didn't field a bunch of tiny linemen in the Rose Bowl either. And while I agree that the LSU game was much more lopsided than the final score suggested, Oregon held their own against Auburn in the NCG (the Duck's previous game prior to LSU). A final second field goal to win is no way to define a physical domination by Auburn.

I'd prefer a bunch of athletic beasts to stack the line on both sides of the ball (and back-ups to all of them so that injuries don't ruin the whole season), but the Pac-12 isn't recruiting those players in any serious numbers. So....work with speed, the spread offense and a good coach.

/Oregon didn't get any first place votes in the AP Poll that just dropped today.
//And that's OK....since the top-2 teams go the the NCG.
///Hope Alabama loses one along the way but they seem to be pretty much unbeatable this year.

The fact that LSU lands at #8 is so telling. This is a three, maybe four loss team prior to the bowls. They have not played like a top 10 team. They were super impressive versus Towson. Their offense is pretty terrible. Yeah, that seems like #8

Auburn had to deal with an idiotic coach, Les Miles, for all his quirks is a great coach, just goes nuts sometimes.

LSU is probably a top 15 team at best, their offense is complete shiat and their defense is not that good this year at all, I think UGA dropped too far and FSU not far enough, one lost to a top 10 ranked team and the other to a shiatty unranked team. I really thought FSU would lose to clemson but oh well they got caught.
