What's the O/U on Frank Spaziani getting the pink slip by Monday?

geom_00: P.S. Sorry for troll feeding.

That's not a troll. I don't have a memory like an average voter.

Sometimes, ratings should not be the be-all, end-all of television, even in athletics. I live a couple hours away from my former campus, yet due to some bullshiat with my cable company, I have a hard time seeing my alma matter on television (even though they're undefeated and in the top 15). That's not because of ratings, but because Paul Allen is a dick. However, I find it absurd that I've seen more of Penn State than I've seen of even Miami (one of those programs usually given carte blanche treatment by ESPN).

2012-10-06 03:38:03 PM

puffy999: geom_00: Personally, I think espn or the like is waiting for some fan to do something stupid.

My complaint isn't about Penn State necessarily... I thought they got hosed in a "different" way. Again, they should've kept their scholarships (heck, I think they should have been allowed in bowls if selected; no BCS bowls or postseason championship of any kind, but the Meineke Hair Care Bowling Bowl would have been fine), but had a regular season TV ban and a much larger fine for the athletic department. That's on the NCAA.

BUT, just because they can be shown, does not mean they should be shown. Surely, there's more than one BigTen program that plays a routine "early" game. I would love, on national television, for someone to bring this up regarding ESPN. Not ON ESPN, because you'd get the same crap you get when an intelligent person challenges an idiot on Fox News or a talk show, but on other networks (like they have the attention span). Considering the horrors caused and how everyone cried for vengeance, it seems as if plenty of people just stop giving a shiat. Heck, if someone is writing a book about the evil deeds of ESPN and how it's really f*cked up the sports world, particularly after the Disney acquisition, this would be another great story to include.

It was a select few in the school so you're response is to punish the entire school and all of those attached to their economic machine. Yeah that makes sense.

Err, forgot to add re: Oregon State sports.
Not when they are on ESPN, of course, but that's rare. They used to be on Fox Sports regularly, but since becoming Root Sports fewer and fewer Oregon games have played (and, incidentally, apparently the UTAH JAZZ are now our default NBA franchise in southern Oregon because they're so regularly on Root Sports... because Paul Allen, the owner of Charter Cable, cannot get a contract with Comcast Sports Network, the exclusive provider of Portland Trail Blazers basketball games... a team owned by Paul Allen...).

That was a pretty good catch on that 2-point conversion.

Hokies still down by 11 and they show no signs of being able to stop UNC from eating clock.

Yep - Dish is in unincorporated tax free Douglas County - imagine the embarrassment if they couldn't carry the local NBC affiliate --- so their customers could get DIV III games, but no Miami/Notre Dame

The biggest reason they didn't get a television ban (and why nobody will get a television ban again) is because you're not just punishing the team, you're punishing their opponents as well. How many nationally televised games do you think Ohio, Kent State, and Temple are going to get this year? Probably not many. But they got on national television when they played Penn State and Ohio State this year.

TV bans made sense back in the 1970s when the NCAA controlled who played on television and there was a limit on the number of times a team could be on television in any given year. Nowadays, it's a bigger punishment and it effects teams that didn't do anything wrong. Not to mention that there is a question of whether the NCAA even has the power to levy a TV ban given that the contracts are between the conferences and the networks and not the NCAA and the networks. The NCAA hasn't levied a TV ban in twenty years and I doubt they will any time soon.

/No whether ESPN SHOULD be airing these games is a different story.

I can accept the reasoning, and I understand it, but I just don't think those guys should matter. Not their fault, but still the fault of their opponent.

In reality, they care more about big games or "rivalries" involving Penn State, which is the big reason why they have no true TV ban levied by the NCAA. So, yeah, I'd have been fine with seeing PSU versus Michigan/MSU/Ohio State/ND/whoever they may play in the future that's a big-name program on ABC; even today's game was worth having on ESPN, given Northwestern's success this year. But even had both teams been winless, it still would have been on... but I mean, yeah, Temple? Ohio? Meh.

Hell there are plenty of murderers up here, just as there are all over the US (and particularly in large cities or isolated areas), but I don't see what that has to do with the point of discussion. Jerry Sandusky may have killed hopes and dreams, but I mean, he left his victims still breathing.
