Can't help but think that this wouldn't be a problem if the shiat were growing everywhere legally, but cue the Fark anti-pot brigade claiming that this is proof that cannabis causes violent crime in 5...4...3...

skwerl: I will, however, point out that most people who don't have a good argument for their position will instead attempt to marginalize and discredit those with opposing viewpoints.

The problem with cannabis legalization isn't that there are no good arguments for it- the problem is that there are so many good arguments for it that it makes the movement to legalize appear to be scattered and disjointedly grasping at straws.

Whenever you have something of value, somebody's going to have an eye out toward stealing it. Even if legalized, marijuana isn't going to become worthless (our local legal pot dispensaries, while they lasted, sold the stuff for hefty sums) and there will always be some POS who'll find it easier to take yours rather than grow his own. Probably fewer of them will arm themselves and do it via home invasion, but the number won't go to zero. That said, I have no problem with legalization, I just don't harbor fantasies about how it'll solve all problems from tax revenue to incarceration to crime to violence.

Certainly not, but you have to admit that keeping it a black-market commodity inordinately inflates its value and draws unscrupulous black-market criminal elements to it- the kind of people who are okay with stealing, or perhaps beating/murdering an elderly woman. When it is as commonplace as tomatoes and other produce, it is going to lose a tremendous amount of that value, and criminals will have to find something else to steal and beat people for.

The best arguments against legalizing pot, I've found, are the losers arguing for it.

Can you provide one legitimate argument why it should be illegal? One.

I'm all for legalizing weed. Personally, that fake weed/spice/herbal incense stuff should carry the same penalties as heroin or cocaine. That stuff is really dangerous.
