This list and this thread make me feel old:

- The Remains of the Day
- Gas, Food, Lodging
- A Shock to the System
- Searching for Bobby Fischer
- Eat Drink Man Woman
- Leap of Faith
- Reversal of Fortune
- The Fisher King
- Three Colors triology
- Bringing Out the Dead
- To Die For
- The Player
- Sniper
- Secrets & Lies

\Yes, I'm hopelessly uncool.

T-Servo: MrHappyRotter: I'm sure there were plenty of movies that were left off that list which shouldn't have been, but I think we can all agree the ones they've picked deserve to be there. Except Speed. Seriously? That had to be a joke, though there would have been funnier choices for the gotcha choice.

I would've put Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion in there instead. For the lulz.

Smoke was a great little film and has one of the most poignant scenes ever, IMO.

/Keitel and Hurt are looking through Keitel's photo album and come across a picture of Hurt's dead wife

Not sure about some of those, but To Die For is really underrated, and Remains Of the Day is a brilliant film, that Tony Hopkins would have won an Oscar for, if it weren't for the fact that Tom Hanks played the Oscar Bait card.

Hey, if you're going to throw out one like that (Waterworld was the only movie on a flight from Dublin to Boston, and I refused to watch), then I need to link to the 9 Worst Movies of the 90s.

Waterworld is better than Speed. The only thing either of them had going for them was Dennis Hopper, and Waterworld Dennis Hopper would have peeled the flesh from Speed Dennis Hopper and used it patch his sail.

Oh come on, a tender, unrequited love story, wonderfully acted and told over a period of years should beat a schmaltzy message film that cured AIDS? I think half of Hollywood broke their hands patting themselves on the back for that one.

Would it be wrong to include "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" because it led to a great '90s TV show?

Here's where I get to do my CSB. Franka Potente was an exchange student at my high school during my senior year. Having been in German IV, it was expected that I get to know her, show her around, whatever. She was pretty cool, but it was long ago.

Have you watched her in "Copper" this season? It's about as dark & twisted as can be and my wife refuses to watch it anymore, but I've been hooked.

I have all the episodes of Copper on my dvr. How good is it? Worth watching?

bump Fight Club or Heat for it.

Heat, The Thin Red Line, and Sixth Sense have to go.

True Romance, Boogie Nights, and JFK should be there

I like The Usual Suspects, but the dialog is absolutely childish.

T-Servo: Pocket Ninja: That's actually not a bad list. I think I agree that Shakespeare in Love belongs on it

I could never stand that movie, especially in contrast to Elizabeth. If it was put across as a comedy it would be ok, but probably even then not as good as Grosse Pointe Blank.

Did anyone die in the movie? Then it was a comedy.

Gunny Highway: If you want to take Boyz off the list what 'urban experience' flick would you replace it with?

Paid in Full
People Under The Stairs
The Wood
Friday

I think it was an important part of the 90s and one film should be on there

That's fair. I'd put Friday on there.

I just RTFA

Lose Speed, the Usual Suspects, and The Truman Show and replace them with...anything else

2012-10-06 04:05:51 PM
It's almost as if there were more than 2.5 good movies per year over that 10 year period.

The 90s were the pinnacle of my movie going experience. A lot of that has to do with how old I was at the time (I was in my 20s), and how technology has changed since then.

2012-10-06 04:07:45 PM
Also, The Thin Red Line was 100% forgettable. Remove it, too

Well, Gweneth Paltrow dying in Contagion did improve my impression of that movie, if that's what you mean.

I'm not ashamed to admit, I practically have South Park: BLU memorized, dialogue and songs. I was a music major when it came out and the second half of that movie is a parody of Les Miserables, plus the songs are actually pretty brilliant.

Not to bad as far as internet lists go (where top 25 usually means 10 actual good picks and 15 WTFs) Could use things to do in denver when you're dead, and obviously missed office space, other than that not too bad.

Leader O'Cola: ummmm... most of these seem to be missing...

the Grifters
Miller's Crossing
Raise the Red Lantern
Double Life of Veronique
Unforgiven
the Player
the Piano
Red/White/Blue
Heavenly Creatures
Sense and Sensibility
la Haine
Kalifornia
Leaving Las Vegas
Breaking the Waves
the English Patient
Boogie Nights
Life is Beautiful
Saving Private Ryan
Happiness
Run Lola Run
American Beauty
Magnolia
.....

replace
Groundhog Day, Sixth Sense, Boyz in the Hood, Jurassic Park, Speed, Trainspotting, Truman Show, Heat with some of those.
jeez.

Unforgiven is NOT on the list? REALLY?

For the most part I think it's good. I won't attempt to critique everyone's accents - however accurate they are or they aren't, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief to enjoy the story and I haven't regretted it. My wife on the other hand refuses to continue watching. I don't want to spoil any plot points but there's a great deal of whores and whoring going on and much of the underlying plot is dark and distasteful goings-on. Annie is a damaged little guttersnipe no matter how well she cleans up and if they keep going with her character, she could be the major tragedy of the entire show.

It can be a little thin in some parts of the story and it certainly isn't Tom Fontana's best - that's still "Homicide' Life on the Street" but I still enjoy it. Very much YMMV.

2012-10-06 09:18:59 PM
I'd replace Speed and Boyz N The Hood with True Romance and Unforgiven.

I'd also replace The Usual Suspects with Magnolia, but that's more of a personal preference. The other two are obvious.

Also great:

The Matrix
American History X
Starship Troopers
Ed Wood
Being John Malkovich
Rushmore
The Lion King
Dazed and Confused
Hoop Dreams

In my top....20. And I'm not a big Carrey fan. That says something about the plot/concept/execution.

Schindler's List - belongs in a top 25 of the century. Also -
Glengarry Glen Ross
Four Weddings and a Funeral
The Commitments
Army of Darkness
The Boondock Saints
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

And a second for "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" although Schindler's List is already on the list.

I would have left Speed and The Truman Show off the list. Give me Dark City instead - it's good enough for two slots.

Gunny Highway: Romeo and Juilet as a late entry

Good production design. However, the raping of Shakespeare's words and characters, no matter how hard the actor's resist it, is retarded. Baz Luhrmann is a boring asshole.
