I really want to hate hoarders... But most of them started with the best of intentions and just got overwhelmed.

Working with wildlife you see it *way* too often... especially with animals that take a long time to nurse back to health... It is hard to say goodbye... and even harder to say "no" when someone brings a box of critters to your front door when you have no space left in the shelter.

/EVERY animal worker should have an intake clerk who they never actually meet or talk to. That person should just have "yes or no" rights on incoming animals, and the rehabber should never know how many were turned away.

There's something oddly soothing about watching a giant flock of ducks flocking back and forth.

I'd like to see this without the soundtrack.

They weren't ducks inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they feel the water, and they remember what they are.

Ducks are awesome. A few summers ago I adopted an injured duck who turned up in my backyard. He wouldn't leave for a few weeks and came when I called him. Nice fella. He eventually found some friends and went off to live with them.

Right now there is a gaggle of about 17 who live here all the time. When others come by to hang for the day it gets to over 40. Standing in the middle of them feeding them is hilarious. They're absurd, comical critters. I want one as a pet. Or as dinner. Either/or.

not so CSB time I guess.

4 years ago in Va Beach my wife, daughter and I were there for a week. We're strolling down Atlantic ave near 15th street or so, can't recall exactly where, but we see a mother duck with 10 of her ducklings stuck waiting to cross Atlantic ave. I called the police and animal control and they can't or won't do anything.

I decide to send my wife and daughter off to go have lunch so I can help them across the street. Done. They made it across Atlantic ave but they have to get across Pacific ave as well which is much more difficult due to it being a divided highway.

Toughest part was stopping traffic for animals that can't understand the concept of waiting until traffic is clear. I got them across Pacific, then across Arctic ave and through a shopping center (ducklings are funny as hell trying to descend a concrete stair case) prodding them along. Every time the ducklings become stuck mom starts quacking and getting nervous but they managed to wind their way to their destination. A couple of shop owners actually came out to assist and keep traffic from interfering with their journey.

Finally, after more than an hour, they made their way down some back streets to a spot where the road meets a marshy area and the ducks took off for the water like, you know what :) Mom started quacking loudly and paddling in circles. She seemed happy, as much as a duck can be happy I guess.

I see so many dead animals on the back roads where I live and it doesn't phase me. This particular time I simply could not ignore it and I had to do something about it.

/end of not so CSB

Naw, that's a CSB.

My mama duck story involves a mama who nested next to our porch. When she was ready to leave with her ducklings, one had a busted wing or leg or something. It could only flop around in circle, so she and the gang left it, never to return. We brought the duck to a local rescue place, who took care of it and turned it over to a local zoo that specializes in crippled animals.

Gaggle is for geese. It's a brace of ducks. Also acceptable would be flock, flush, paddling, raft or team.
