The Bestest: 1-0 O's already

After watching all of the errors in the Braves/Cardinals game, I think it was very fitting that this game began with a mishandled ball

After what happened in Atlanta, I'm not holding out too much hope for this game. I just hope Selig ends the lockout before the next round starts so we can have the real umps back.

Rather have the Rangers. Deflated, exhausted, tank on E...eh, I won't tear my hair out if Baltimore wins, but I think I'd rather have the Rangers.

Infield fly!

2012-10-05 08:48:39 PM
So damn, I got invited to an ME3 MP game, was only half listening for the last half of the STL-ATL game - I missed some crazy stuff, geez! I rewound the DVR to see the "infield fly" play - obvious terrible call - but I gotta say I'm glad the Cards moved on.

Now go Orioles!

I'm puzzling over this myself. Did MLB decide to hire the NFL replacement refs for their "extra set of eyes" in the outfield?

I have to root for the Orioles - this is a magical season for them, and unless they come up against the Yankees, I'm with them all the way. And if they beat the Yankees, I'll be with them after that. They deserve it. Also, fark the Rangers - they had their chance last year and the year before that. They were a strike away *twice* and they blew it last year - now it's the Orioles' turn..

The Bestest: think we'll get as tired of "THIS TRAIN" as we were with Written in the Stars?

It's day one and I'm already at zero patience.

2012-10-05 10:37:40 PM
time for that Wunderkind the rangers picked up? you know Roy Oswalt.

i understand it's a one and done, but if Holland comes out of the pen they would have used 2 starters. if they win, will Ogando end up starting a game 2?

Mr. Miyagi did his thing on Yu.

2012-10-05 10:39:57 PM
yeah, that slow curve Yu has is almost unfair

First time I've watched Darvish pitch.
He is very good..very good.
sick curveball

2012-10-05 10:44:53 PM

The Bestest: Why not? Seems to be working.

The idea of a "pitch to contact" starter in a big game eludes some. He has pitched a few guys into double plays, that is his way. It isn't pretty like a strikeout pitcher, but it can work. Saunders has obviously earned some credibility with Showalter.

Miller 64's sea-shanty jingle...as if a sailor would drink a beer that's 3% alcohol by volume. Even worse, Bud Select 55 is 2.4%. Not to mention they taste like crap. You're better off getting a beer you like and adding a quarter-cup of water.

All right, 3-1 Baltimore, top 8th.

By booting the series against Oakland, the Rangers gave the league 27 more outs to eliminate them from the playoffs...and now they have given the Orioles two extra outs with errors?

The final score will probably be 15-2 and the Rangers can catch Saturday tee times. :-(

Hopefully Texas can finally get rid of Ron Washington.

/aimed at resident stat dudes

600+ HR is a fantastic accomplishment. His career slash is .276/.402/.554 (147 OPS+) - that's awesome, especially the .402 OBP. He should go into the Hall on the first ballot. He might not for a few reasons, but I think he SHOULD

Jesus, last year when the Tigers had just about everyone eligible for the DL and every AAA player called up for the Rangers series they had more life than these guys.

2012-10-05 11:50:54 PM
Surprised they brought Johnson in after the fifth run scored. Figured they'd throw Strop or Gregg in there long enough for it to become a save situation.

2012-10-05 11:50:59 PM
Just to put this game in perspective, the Rangers essentially had 4 shots at this.
All they had to do was win any ONE of those games against the A's this week, and they'd have won the division and wouldn't even be here.

Hopefully the bats get hot and stay that way.

Terrified of Baltimore, though.

I like that prediction, but I'm not so scared of Baltimore - they're playing well tonight but it's against a depleted, defeated Texas team. The Yankees will have a couple days rest to get fresh, and they've got great momentum from sweeping the Sox and winning the division with a

1. Powerhouse offense, 4 HR and 9 runs in a single inning - their hitting is contagious, and games can get out of hand quickly when they're feeling it
2. Come-from-behind, pinch hit homer and walk-off dramatics - it's that kind of extra inning/walkoff drama that made 2009 so incredible, and they've cut off several slices of that in September
3. Another powerhouse offense, featuring the insanely hot hitting of Robinson Cano.

Not to mention the fact that for as close as it was, the Yankees held on through September, never relinquishing the lead - they're a great team right now and ought to do well starting Sunday.

It seems like the biggest knock against him is that he was a DH. But he only had about 33% of his PA as a DH. He had 19% as a 3B. He was a first baseman more often than anything else

Eh, they had the day off after that - I expect good things. I have to wonder about one intangible: a lot of these guys haven't been to an ALDS, I wonder if they'll be nervous at all.

Remember, the Yankees will still have the advantage of setting their rotation the way they want, home field for the last three, Robinson Cano...

And don't take this defeat of Texas to mean more than it does for the O's - this game was to the O's what Wednesday's game was to Yankees - as sure a win as you could predict.

On the positive side, Rangers fans, Hamilton is probably going to be vastly overvalued on the free agent market, so you probably just did your team a favor by booing him right out of town.

(But holy crap, that guy sure was an easy out tonight.)
