I was going to do that myself.

Sad he died, sad to try and make political hay from it.

This is why I wait for further details before I make an opinion on something as hot button as the border. Waaay more complicated than people want to make it.

Impossible. We never supply weapons to people who then use them in an irresponsible manner.

So you're saying the Border Patrol is quick to open fire? Sounds like something the GOP should approve of. I expect them to congratulate Obama on the death of this Border Patrol agent.

It's a farkIN' COVERUP!!!!

All part of Obama's plot to gin up support for his inevitable mass gun confiscation.

The real question is how the fark does that even happen? I'm assuming that guys that spend their lives patrolling the desert have some type of land nav training and can orient themselves?

Doesn't matter who shot who, because the Mexican authorities have suspects under arrest anyways. Guilty until proven innocent.

He was in Arizona, *friendly* fire is a myth.

It's a pretty basic skill that can be learned in a few hours and practiced on the job, so I think it's a fair assumption.

I suspect this was fairly clear early on, and they didn't want a REAL shiatstorm on their hands.

No details on the injured man and if that was "friendly" fire as well. The Mexican police seems to have picked up two random people who happen to be in the area (no criminal background, no guns, no evidence) just to make the US happy, makes me wonder what this Boarder Patrol Agent was actually shooting at...other then his fellow officers.

I heard a report that talked about how dark it was that night. Yet the moon was still pretty bright- being a few days after a full moon.

But yes, not a lot of information right now.

Middle of the night, two cars come up on each other each responding to "intruders." One dumb ass starts shooting without verifying this targets, other dumb asses start firing back.

I have grown some wild texas cherry tomatoes from seed (using composted soil only) and just transplanted them this morning. I'm pretty excited (got them from nativeseeds.org). Thought I'd let you know as I've you farkied as an organic tomato grower.

Yeah, pretty much.

What a bizarre story.

2012-10-05 11:27:23 PM
So preliminary findings (meaning they can't or don't want to say more at this time) indicate that it was a friendly fire incident. Okay, foolish enough. Still within the realm of possibility, especially if their preliminary findings include cartridges corresponding to the agent's weapons, depleted magazines in the agent's weapons, and an intact bullet or two to pull out of the dead agent and match to said weapons. However, the article confuses me with these two sentences,

"Ivie, 30, ( the deceased agent) a native of Utah, was responding to a sensor alarm in the desert 100 miles southeast of Tucson on Tuesday at the time of the shooting. At least two other agents were involved in the incident."

Were there two more agents than the dead one and the wounded one? Were they counting the wounded agent as one of two in addition to Ivie? Either way, how are these agents not already in custody or being questioned about the incident? Information not currently being released to the public possibly.

Is it just a poorly written paragraph?

I feel like Johnny 5. "Need more input!"

I've always found cherry tomatoes either turn to mush when halved or seriously run from a fork when whole, and have never been happy with the flavor in general.

Sounds good. Never tried those before. This year was my worst. All my tomatoes got blight. So I'm going to be making a lot of changes this coming year starting with, well, everything. That's the first time it has happened to me, and I wasn't pleased. I'm going to put out a list again in December for those who want seeds. I got a bunch of e-mails last week from people who want to participate, but didn't respond due to technical issues going on here(had to re-install windows and drivers, then later my modem took a crap). I will have to do that tomorrow to let them know they will be put on the request list. I got their messages. Last year the list was over 100 varieties available, this year i think it will be around 90. I'll also try to make it easier to understand. Last year i think I put too much information in it, and I think it overwhelmed many people.

They have their place. Excellent for salads or snacking. You aren't going to use them for cooking or slicing. Some varieties are also a lot better than others. If you're cutting them in half it tells me you may be using them wrong.

Agreed. We have other varieties we transplanted that we'll use for other needs.
