Is there any logical reason for Romney to put a handkerchief on the table?

I think this whole argument is pretty stupid. Let's say we did confirm that Mittsy cheated in a way that made it obvious to everyone. It wouldn't change a thing, really. It'd just be a footnote at best.

You know, I'm starting to hope that Obama wins in the Electoral College but loses the popular vote. I can't think of any outcome that would produce more interesting political discourse than that.

We should have TSA agents search and rape scan Romney and Obama before they take the podium for debates so this kind of thing doesn't happen anymor. Obviously don't want someone to bring WMD (Whispering mind device) or terrorist manifesto's to a debate

It would explain Romney's unerring commitment to the truth during the debates, and the voluminous amount of facts, figures, and detail that he offered.

Gyrfalcon: However, this isn't some kind of "contest" where failure to adhere to "the rules" disqualifies you from further participation. It's not like Romney can be sent home in disgrace even if it was proven true, or gets points taken off his final score.

This is also why complaining about the moderator is a losing argument as well, the debates are not sporting events they are winner take all politicking.

JackieRabbit: badaboom: JackieRabbit: badaboom: You guys want to blame a hanky?

Here's the REAL reason he lost:

[i883.photobucket.com image 430x326]

How's the air on your planet? Obama already has 251 EC delegates to his credit. Romney has 181. There are 106 in swing states. A candidate needs 270 electors. Obama's lead continues to grow in national polls. He's almost there and Romney has a near-impossible task ahead of him; there is almost no possible way for him to win 84% of the remaining electoral votes, especially when about half of the tossup states are leaning to Obama. Most people who are watching this election (without your rose colored beer-goggles) agree that Obama has already won and that Romney us wasting his money and effort. It will take a miracle for him to when and he simply doesn't have enough time left. Stranger things have happened, but I'd not take the odds on a 20 buck bet.

[media.comicvine.com image 479x356]

Be an ass. That's okay, but you're being an ignorant ass. There are a number of non-partisan informations sources on the net where you could go and see that I am stating facts, not fiction. But I guess remaining delusional is easier for you.

/would have strongly considered voting for Romney until he started sucking utra-rightwing cock for votes. I'm not Barack Obama's biggest fan.

Are you the type of person who turn off the TV in the 8th inning because your team is down a run? Yeesh, your "facts" are dubious. Too bad the President is not selected by USA Today and Gallup. Hopefully guys like you stay home since it's in the bag for Obama.

Exactly, because no one would be surprised. Republicans have a legacy of underhanded debating. They're just doing as has been done in the past several POTUS elections by their republican predecessors.

Obama will still win the election either way.

I don't see it changing the mind of a single voter, though. To be honest. In all the good-and-bad things both candidates have done, taking notes to a no-notes-allowed debate vanishes.

To be fair, it's not like the truth is relevant at all. We learned this from Saint Reagan and his campaign. Well, the Republicans learned it at least, the Democrats need to catch up or figure out a way to make blatantly lying no longer beneficial.

I don't know. Romney winning Illinois, especially Chicago, New York, and California, but loosing Utah, half the southern states, and the popular vote, while still winning the electorial college. And exit polls showing that Romney recieved 80% of the black vote.

Or even some obscure third party candidate winning. This would be the most interseting watching the Dems and Repubs trying to figure out what the hell happened.

Or just Obama winning Texas. Watch half the state lose it's mind.

Okay, I guess I could elaborate, but it's kind of embarassing that you need me to, TBH.

Words mean things. Sometimes words mean things that don't directly relate to the etymology of the word. One of the accepted definitions of podium is synonymous with lectern. Therefore, when you said it's only a podium if you stand on it, you were incorrect. When it was pointed out that you were incorrect, you attempted to prove your case by using two very silly arguments that are simply not true at all:

1. That the first listed definition of a word somehow invalidates the second listed definition of that word
2. That etymology is the only arbiter of what a word can mean

Hope that clarifies things for you.

Podmore: I don't care for Romney, and I generally feel that Republican politicians are more likely to lie, cheat, distort facts, and manipulate voters than Democratic ones. So I especially hate it when liberals jump on something like this and declare it true without the facts. It's fine that the question was raised; if he did cheat, that would be a character issue if nothing else, but credible analysts were saying handkerchief, and he used it later in the debate. To keep saying it was notes is to be like the climate change deniers, who ignore the credible evidence and hang on the lunatic fringe.

It just makes us look bad.

ENHANCE

It's a handkerchief, but there are notes written in Braille sewn into it in white thread. Check this out though, the notes all say "Don't use the N-word" and "'Middle class,' not 'you people.'" I ran it through the GCMS, and there are traces of jet fuel--and not just any jet fuel, but J460-6, which as we all know is only used to fuel private jets in the Cayman Islands. Also, a booger.

I think this is stupid and I'm not convinced he is cheating.

What I don't get is why, if the debates matter at all, so many don't care if someone cheats.

If the debates earn/cost the participants votes, why shouldn't the cheating matter?

Maybe the president of the united states is a farking idiot. Did that occur to you too?

legion_of_doo: Is there a logical reason?

Hmmm.

Let me think.

He wanted to put the handkerchief down for a moment instead of carrying it around?

OR

VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY!

It's hardly a vast right-wing conspiracy for a guy with chronic foot-in-mouth syndrome to want a few notes just in case.

Um, the debates are about highlighting policy differences, not "winning". Bringing notes in seems reasonable, maybe if Romney had better notes he wouldn't have lit the pants-on-fire meter into a godzilla-creating atomic inferno in every fact-check organization in the world.

//I'm still fairly convinced Obama's strategy was to play beyond the debate and get Romney to say blatantly untrue shiat that'd get him blasted later. Which actually is what seems to be happening now that the news is done desperately fellating Romney to try to milk advertising dollars out of what is really a very boring election season.
