Well I guess now we know how he remembered all his "zingers". We all knew Mitt was a lying sack of shiat. Is it really a stretch to realize that he's also a cheating sack of shiat?

So the candidates are provided with a pen and paper on the podium already...and Romney took some paper out of his pocket and put it on the podium.

Yeah. That's cheating.

Why would he have put a hanky on the table? That would have been weird. And a hanky isn't so large, with such heft. He is a lying sack of shiat, through and through.

2012-10-05 11:43:22 AM
Can't see the vid at work, so I can't comment on what it shows.

Do I think Romney is above cheating? No.

Besides, he's told so many lies, he probably needs notes to keep them all straight.

2012-10-05 11:47:04 AM
If the corporate media isn't going to discuss him lying his ass off all night I rather doubt they'll be interested in talking about him cheating so it doesn't really matter. All the low information voters need to know is Romney kicked Obama's ass and that is all the corporate media is telling them.

2012-10-05 11:47:55 AM
If his plan was to just make shiat up wholesale and lie like Jon Lovitz, why would he need notes? Is he even more Reagan-esque than he wants us to believe?

I'm thinking it was list of Zingers. he can't pull that crap when there's no podium to hide behind.

Seriously, aside from stealing a presidential election (maybe 2), lying about WMDs in order to start a war, revealing the identity of a covert federal agent as a means of political payback, trying to suppress voter turnout in key Democratic regions, countless bribery offenses, and the occasional cheating on taxes, what proof do we have that the Republican Party is capable of such nefarious behavior?

Interestingly enough, I more or less recieved indirect confimation that it was SOP for Bush and Rove to do an earpiece and microphone thing at most major speeches Bush gave. I knew a guy who is a "rigger" in Downtown DC and sets up lights/sound etc for most press conferences and televised speeches downtown. He told me flat out that the POTUS and his crew alway brought their own Camera that faced the crowd and fed to a montor Karl rove Watched and that he'd radio speech updates/alterations to Bush on the fly based on the crowd's reaction to what the president was saying

Romney WAS taking notes during the debate. Either that or he was jerking off. I remember seeing
the mic on the podium jiggling quite a bit.

I'm betting it was note taking, though because if he was jerking off then BO would have had to whip
HIS out and the damn podium would have fallen over (you know, because black men...something
something penis size).

In all seriousness (sorta?) though, he CLEARLY put something on the podium but nobody knows if
it was pre-written notes or not. Maybe the man is just more comfortable reading off of note cards
than a piece of paper so that's what he took his notes on.

My oldest son is the same way. Give him something on a piece of paper to read and its painful to
listen to. Put them on note cards though and he turns into a GOT damn orator. Maybe having the
cards in his hand to shuffle through relaxes him or something...I don't know.

This may seem like a silly question, but why is it against the rules to bring notes? Granted, you don't want the whole debate to turn into a stump speech. But, you do want to keep your facts straight to counter certain arguments. (Or, in the case of RMoney, his bald-faced lies.)

It could have been notes or handkerchief or some mormon underwear but it didn't affect the debate so even bringing it up comes off as desperate.

Saw the video, and having cheated a few times myself, I would never be so obvious about it. Honestly, that could have been a small bible or book of mormon put there for luck. I do wonder, why is it that no one during the debate called this out? Why did no one ask what that was? Is it possible that Romney showed everyone what it was before placing it on the podium?

cameroncrazy1984: lennavan: cameroncrazy1984: lennavan: No, subby I did not notice that because I saw Romney take notes many times. But even if the way you totally imagined the debate went were true, I fail to see how a handkerchief explains it.

Why would Romney put a handkerchief on the podium? Why not just keep it in his pocket? Is he expecting some sort of snot-emergency wherein he'll need to save time?

Holy fark who cares why he put it on a podium versus kept it in his pocket. Do you? Are you seriously concerned about the location of Mitt Romney's handkerchief?

You don't think it's seriously weird that Romney put a handkerchief on the podium before the debate? Who does that?

OH SH*T it's part of his programming!

You know what, I'm not up on the current ettiquite for handling of your own handkerchief, what is socially acceptable and what is seriously weird and all. You know why? Because I could give a flying fark. Apparently this is an important part of your day, keeping up on what is acceptable use and location of your handkerchief.

But let me entertain your line of derp for a moment and pretend like this is the most pressing and important issue and line of attack on Romney - Mitt Romney puts his handkerchief on the podium before the debate. So that's one person who does it. Now here's my question - who DOESN'T put their handkerchief on the podium before the debate?

Right now, I've got 1 person who puts a handkerchief on the podium before the debate and you've got zero people who do not. I await your incredibly informed response because I know this is a pressing issue for you.

Headso: It could have been notes or handkerchief or some mormon underwear but it didn't affect the debate so even bringing it up comes off as desperate.

The point is you shouldn't need notes, it's a chance to demonstrate clear mastery of the material. It's amazingly telling when someone does not know without notes, I'll give you two examples:

Stephen Colbert asked a politician who was advocating putting the 10 commandments in courthouses because they are so important "name the 10 commandments." When he didn't know, it was amazingly telling exactly how important he really thought they were.

Another example is in discussing the minimum wage, many Republicans have advocated there is no need to raise the minimum wage. So when asked "what is the minimum wage" it became amazingly clear they had no idea.

In both of these cases, failure to be able to recite basic facts off the top of their head was incredibly relevant.

Who the hell takes a HEAVY handkerchief out of their pocket and tosses it on the podium as soon as they get there?
When he tossed it onto the podium it landed like a deck of cards wrapped in .... a handkerchief.

Anyone else would have left it in their pocket , reached into their pocket when they "needed" it, wiped their face, blew their nose, whatever, then put it back in the pocket.
Nobody puts a handkerchief out on the podium in advance.
Unless they want to hide something in it.

IMHO the reason there's such a discrepancy between what Romney said at the debate and what he says on the campaign trail is that the real Romney is too liberal for the RNC.

Much the same way as McCain was too liberal for the RNC and only became a douche once he got the nomination.

This is about as stupid as the Birthers. Do you really think a canidate for the POTUS would blatently cheat during a debate with a world audience watching their ever move and word coming out of their mouth? Everything they did was scipted and practiced with attention paid to every detail to ensure no mistakes would be made.

Yes, this would be about on par with thinking Democrats would not bother to check if a man representing the Democrats and running for president was in fact a born US citizen qualified to run for president.

It bugs me how people are looking for any fault they can find, at the expense of attention to the most basic faults, like policy.

Johnson: The handkerchief contained his notes and was rather obviously used as an alibi for later when he got caught.

That's debate prep.

Odd. My debate teachers told me under no circumstances put your hands in your pockets. So, I always put my kleenax, pen, keys, ect. on my podium before I give opening or closing arguments to this very day. I won't even wear jewelry I might tinker with. You will play with things on your clothing or in your pockets. Jingling change *shrudder* How many times have I watched an attorney distract a jury to hate him simply because he can't stop jingling change in his pocket. You won't fiddle with something on the podium. You leave it there till you need it.

The rules - agreed to by both parties - say they can't bring notes to the debate. They can write them during the debate, but they can't bring them in.

No props, notes, charts, diagrams or other writings can be used by the candidates; however, they can take notes on the type of paper of their choosing. The candidates cannot ask each other direct questions, but can ask rhetorical questions. The candidates cannot address each other with proposed pledges. Each candidate can use his own makeup artist. No candidate is allowed to use risers or any other device to make them look taller. The Coin Toss: At least 72 hours before the first debate, there will be a coin toss on the order of questioning and closing arguments.

rufus-t-firefly: Gunny Highway: Why cant they have notes? Why shouldnt they have notes?

Who cares if they have notes?

And now we see that Romney in fact agreed not to bring notes. Therefore, the only issue remaining is whether Romney in fact brought notes. If he did, then reasonable observers will agree that Romney dishonored an important contract to cheat during the debate, and that this in turn reflects in a small but consequential way on his moral fitness for the presidency.

2012-10-05 12:52:44 PM

The My Little Pony Killer: Great Janitor: He openly places it on the podium, not caring who sees it. If this was the note cards that so many anti-Romney people want it to be, wouldn't someone during the debate asked about it?

I'm pretty sure the members of the audience directly in front of him would have been able to see it as well, considering he wasn't completely behind the podium when he started pulling it from his pocket.

But, the camera crew saw what he did. So if he were note cards and the camera man saw it, what's stopping him from saying something? If I were the camera guy at a debate and one of the candidates openly threw note cards onto the table, I would be facebooking and tweeting that instantly. I would be known as the guy who clearly caught a presidential candidate cheating. You can't buy that kind of fame.

FTFY, because it was cloth and he used the hanky several times. I have little use for Mittens, but making stupid shiat up about him serves no adult purpose.

You people are so ridiculous.

Watch the video.

It's a handkerchief concealing something.

In all seriousness it's not "liebral flailing", I openly admit Romney won the debate big time, but if you can't tell that the kerchief is simply being used as a visual and rhetorical ally you MIGHT just be less intelligent than average, and surely less perceptive.

/Thanks.
//I know because I've sold a lot of pocketsquares in my day (Tip Top Tailors for years and years). (teh funnies). Not really (though I did sell an awful lot of pocket squares and have written articles on how to fold them in a variety of ways), I could tell because I'm not a brainwashed idiot who thinks that Romney is above this sort of tactic (win at all costs, ethics be damned) and it's clear that he's trying to conceal it from any conceivable angle.

Mitt is kind of a magician. He can make lies out of thin air.

2012-10-05 12:55:45 PM
Thanks for whoever correctly identified the hanky. It certainly did look like a 8.5x11 piece of paper folded over twice, but if he pulled the hanky later on from the podium I think this is a done deal. No funny business.

The reason the idea took off at first because of GWB and the obvious wire he wore in his debates. The Democrats were expecting it. I actually thought Romney did fine in the debates and Obama seemed lackluster. It was a win for Romney, but not a big one due to all of the lies he told. I do think we can all agree that Jim Lehrer totally screwed up. He couldn't control the debate, he asked softball questions, and let one candidate (Obama) have more time than Mitt. They should have countdowns as well as running 'talk times', giving the candidate that spoke less a chance to balance it out at the end. Obama wasted too much time on pleasantries and not enough time attacking his opponent. How do you spend 60 minutes talking about taxes and not ask about Mitt's tax returns?

1) This is dumb. Romney has been in politics for years, and he's prepped for debates many times. It's easy to believe that, when everyone said the fate of his campaign was hanging on his performance, he worked hard and had a good night as a result. This whole line of attack makes it seem INCONCEIVABLE that Romney could have a good night without cheating, and that isn't the case.

2) Given that Obama wasn't aggressive in his efforts to counter Romney's attacks, the fact that Romney may have had notes doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

Baz744: StaleCoffee: Honestly even if he did bring notes he didn't say anything new.

It's no Watergate. But if both of the following are true:

1) that Romney agreed not to bring notes, and
2) that Romney brought notes anyway, then

it objectively follows that this is a minor scandal reflecting poorly on Romney's character. If true, reasonable voters will hold against him the fact that he dishonored a fairly important contract to cheat during a debate.

The people voting for Romney wouldn't give a shiat. He could shoot a baby and a puppy in front of a woman getting raped by a muslin extremist and the only cry of foul would be if he didn't shoot the guy with dark skin.

You can see the paper on each of the debaters podiums at the start of the video.

They're not supposed to bring notes into the debate.

Yeah? Well my mother's brother's half-nephew's cousin's third aunt twice removed told me this was ok...

Was there a pre-posted set of rules that everyone can review, that everyone can weigh and that everyone knows about? There were no rules, as far as I know, stated at the start of the debate... only the format.

Not really. I'm Canadian and because of bank regulation and moderate Federal tax increases, our budget will be balanced by 2016/2017. However, Bain Capital did move quite a few jobs north of the border so from my perspective they are a job creator. Thanks Romney. We can conclude that nobody cares whether or not Romney cheats except for democrats and the slim segment left in society which values ethics and sportsmanship within the realm of intellectual debate over bluster, lies, and rhetorical strongarming.

Further, we can conclude that your strawman cameraman doesn't actually exist as a safeguard, but this video sure does show a pizza-pie firm kerchief bouncing like a deck of cards after being pocketed and slid on top of a lectern in a debate where outside materials are expressly forbidden.

First: Huge Romney supporter here.
Second: He definitely takes something white out of his pocket and puts it on the podium. Looks like index cards.
Third: During the entire debate he rarely looked down at his podium or appeared to be shuffling notes or wrote down much, so even if he did intend to cheat, if necessary, he didn't really need to. He even said all of that clearly, and in English for your convenience.

I'm not saying it's conclusive that Romney used crib notes. But the fact that he also had a handkerchief in his possession does not rule out or even really undermine the proposition that he used notes, since it is perfectly possible for him to have brought both. And, it is at least somewhat suspicious that Mitt appeared to pull the document in question from his sleeve, and not his pocket.

At the minimum, it's worth a reporter or three putting the question to him directly, to put him on record in case it is later discovered that he did bring notes.

Obama let him dig a deep, wide, stupid hole filled with lies.

I could've done without the condescending smirks, but letting Romney talk is a brilliant strategy.
He's an asshat and was torn apart by political fact sites.

Debates go like this:
1. Romney appears to win by talking a lot and being aggressive.
2. Obama goads him and and makes him talk more.
3. Romney gets owned and buried under the weight of his cluelessness. Obama goes Blake from Glengarry on him.

So it would be there when he needed it and he wouldn't have to dig it out of his pocket while he was speaking. This is not uncommon for a speaker. It gets rather hot under stage lights. Some people want a cloth to dab away any sweat. He used the thing several times during the debate.

Nobody said there was hard proof. Romney might be a dufus but he's pretty damn good at cheating -- that's how he got rich. Hell, that's how most people get rich. Throw the scruples out the door and figure out how to run as many deceptions / scams as you can at once to advantage yourself.

There is a large amount of video evidence which supports a theory that he cheated. I find it compelling enough to belief it. Do I believe it absolutely? Of course not. But I choose to believe it because I find it highly likely and because the physical evidence on offer (his body language, clear downplaying of the placement, and the overall stiffness / heft / and bounce of an item I am very familiar with due to my past employment) works for me.

I understand disbelief as well.

Ultimately, it's a minor and / or inconsequential event. I think its slimy, but it's not like I'll spend time thinking about it beyond today or maybe tomorrow.

Just not a strong showing, which is a shame because Mitt 'won' about as convincingly as the talent portion of a beauty contest. As a debate it was mostly a flop in general, although Obama did at least present some actual content, just not terribly well.

badaboom: Funny, we feel the same exact way about the Daily Kos.

There are plenty of biased opinion sites on the right that still behave reasonably and rationally. LGF, now that they've kicked out the lunatics, would be a decent example. Or you could link George Will. Even Krauthammer behaves reasonably at times and he's fairly intelligent.

But, yea, I'm sure it's all KOS's fault you pea-brains are always submitting garbage from Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin. KOS also pissed in your Cheerios, kicked your dog and made your hair turn grey.

This is not a rational conclusion. You are just as stupid as the birthers.

How many handkerchief's do you own? Zero. But I'm sure you totally know anyways.

RockofAges: Oh, and the "slick delivery".

Yes yes, exactly. The "slick delivery." Whatever the fark that means. Yeah, that's clear proof of a conspiracy here.

RockofAges: It's so obvious that he's attempting to hide the placement from the crowd that you'd have to be a complete rube to willfully ignore it.

Yeah that makes good sense, Romney was smart enough to hide it from the crowd but not the cameras, which is why smart guys like you were able to bust him.

I apologize to the birthers in the thread. You're clearly more stupid.

The slick delivery is obvious to anyone who speaks English. It means that he surreptitiously placed the item with obvious pains to do so.

We also did this shiat years ago with the Bush "earpiece" thing. Fark around

Is there some.... Significance... to your Capitalizing "camera" and "watched"?

Compared to his rape of working men and women to fatten his own illegal retirement fund, I think the moral outrage of borderline cheating during a debate is not so big a deal.

But it doesn't change anything. Romney won the debate. And he won simply because when he told lies he was animated and smiled. If Obama was enthusiastic in the slightest he would have been declared the winner. It's meaningless.

Standard high school debate technique, we were taught it in debate club. You bomb your opponent with a overload of either lies or half truths that they just don't have time to respond in detail to. Unfortunately this rarely worked in high school because people recognized what you were doing.

I find it ironic that folks will believe that Romney cheated by bringing notes, but refuse to believe that something funny is going on with the employment numbers. It's as if people look at Romney and say "there is NO WAY he could possibly know all that stuff- he must have cheated!" but then look at employment numbers that appear to contradict themselves and act as a HUGE windfall to Obama and say "oh, those are TOTALLY the real numbers. Absolutely accurate! No one in the government has any sort of vested interest in skewing those numbers!"

Holy fark who cares why he put it on a podium versus kept it in his pocket. Do you? Are you seriously concerned about the location of Mitt Romney's handkerchief?

Ever given a speech? Fairly common practice to keep the hands dry when your palms sweat. Less obvious than whipping it out of your pocket. Sweaty palms are distracting; hands sweat when you are nervous (as when before a crowd) and sweaty palms are a negative feedback loop that you really don't need when you are trying to remember the next thing you need to say.

The more you know....

Johnny Swank: I think Romney is a cockbag, but this is a stupid, stupid conspiracy theory. There's 235,239 more things to pound the cult leader with.

This.

I'm sorry, I very highly doubt he cheated. He came prepared. I mean he was full of sh*t, but he came prepared. Obama's lack of emotional delivery and lack of attacks on easy targets was the phenomenon that defined the debate. No one perhaps outside of Obama really knows why, but I think the reason people are shocked is because this is really not the Obama we have seen.

I saw the debates in 2008. Obama was not this passive. He wasn't incredibly aggressive, but he didn't act like a chump on stage. Many people, mostly conservatives, think his passivity was from too much teleprompter, but that is BS, the GOP wants to paint Obama as a weak president, and the teleprompter lies play into it.

I think something else was up. I don't know if it was campaign strategy, off night, personal problems, international problems, what, but he was either distracted or doing it on purpose. He still came off fine to me, a person with a plan and ideas who shared them if boringly. But he didn't blow me away - neither did he do it at the convention. There are clues, like his memoir, that Obama is an introspective person. He might just be a little tired right now. The job runs you down. And there's such hate out there for Obama, mindboggling hate. The economy has been improving steadily month after month. Unemployment is down under 8% now. And yet people are still mad at him, like it's his fault for taking out a bad mortgage or financial chicanery or offshoring jobs.

This country is full of cowards, small people living unimportant lives of quiet desperation who want to blame everyone for their situation except themselves.

I'm kind of tired of theorizing about it. Doesn't affect my vote in the least. I know whose ideas are bankrupt both logically and morally.

At least the cons are smart enough to figure out that it's by uniting that you achieve political action, rather than the enclave-of-interests that surrounds the modern left.

I think it was campaign strategy. Obama has a significant lead, he was playing it safe. I hated it, I saw it pretty much the same you did as Obama was timid, missed too many chances for counters and whatnot but I think they were playing it safe.

lokidecat: I think it was a good tactic.

It would be nice to think this was a strategy. But I don't think it was. Obama was not on his game. He's not the strongest debater anyway and he really didn't perform well in the first 2008 debate. But he came around and probably will this time too.

To be honest, Obama should not have agreed to the debates. He didn't need them. The incumbent president, especially one already winning, has nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing this.

Considering that the handkerchief he used in the screengrabs was folded, what was he unfolding?

Was he unfolding the hankie so he could re-fold it?

So do you have proof that, in this case, the handkerchief was used to smuggle notes in to the debate?

As I stated above:

Simple answer: No. There are also plenty of things which can be believed without "proof". I ask you -- Do you believe the narrative regarding Osama Bin Laden's death? I do, but there's very little "proof" that it is so. We believe things all of the time with less-than-perfect proof.

Shaky Proof, as stated above:

- His clear subterfuge in planting the kerchief. If it's not a big deal, why go through the effort to hide it so intensely?

- No kerchief I've ever thrown / folded has ever looked like that, bounced like that, or stayed flat like that. This sounds retarded but I would fold dozens if not over a hundred a day. This involves throwing them down on a table in a similar manner. There is way too much weight and bounce going on there for it to be simple cloth. Obviously others cannot identify with this, but it does reinforce my suspicions from a personal perspective.

- You can see him work with whatever is on his table very early on in the video. Unless he's playing idly with his handkerchief during the debate.

- His previous character flaws and his previous actions lead me to believe he is predisposed to cheating / unethical behaviour, with a general philosophy of "be and do whatever it takes to leverage victory".

So, agree to disagree. But I have my reasons, and once again, I don't care terribly much. Today's my tinfoil day.

At 1:26:35 in the video, Romney picks up the same white object-clearly a handkerchief -to wipe his face....unless of course he is wiping his face with his cheat notes.

That's right, he did. He is that arrogant. I am not a video technician, but if someone could slow down the video enough, you would clearly be able to see not only his handwriting on the "handkerchief," but a tiny "fark you, Barack" written on it, with a smiley face, in case Romney wasn't smirking enough to get the message across. That's why Obama wouldn't look at him, and Romney had that tight little smile all night.

Why would Romney put a handkerchief on the podium? Why not just keep it in his pocket? Is he expecting some sort of snot-emergency wherein he'll need to save time?

So he doesn't look like he's reaching into his pocket on TV all the time? Its less awkward when he wants to quickly wipe away the lie-sweat?

How's the air on your planet? Obama already has 251 EC delegates to his credit. Romney has 181. There are 106 in swing states. A candidate needs 270 electors. Obama's lead continues to grow in national polls. He's almost there and Romney has a near-impossible task ahead of him; there is almost no possible way for him to win 84% of the remaining electoral votes, especially when about half of the tossup states are leaning to Obama. Most people who are watching this election (without your rose colored beer-goggles) agree that Obama has already won and that Romney us wasting his money and effort. It will take a miracle for him to when and he simply doesn't have enough time left. Stranger things have happened, but I'd not take the odds on a 20 buck bet.

Does it surprise me that Romney would cheat at the debate, not after Bush and the wireless backpack.

Does it matter? Not really, he is still going to lose, and the next debate is going to be epic. Obama is just letting him run with the rope.

RockofAges: The My Little Pony Killer: Great Janitor: The My Little Pony Killer: Great Janitor: He openly places it on the podium, not caring who sees it.

And since the camera guy hasn't hit twitter and facebook about this yet, what can we conclude?

We can conclude that nobody cares whether or not Romney cheats except for democrats and the slim segment left in society which values ethics and sportsmanship within the realm of intellectual debate over bluster, lies, and rhetorical strongarming.

Further, we can conclude that your strawman cameraman doesn't actually exist as a safeguard, but this video sure does show a pizza-pie firm kerchief bouncing like a deck of cards after being pocketed and slid on top of a lectern in a debate where outside materials are expressly forbidden.

Yet when Clinton lied he was ok.

FDR lashed himself to the lecturn to deliver speeches in his day. Nixon looked more animated with a serious case of the flu, and lost the election because he looked poor by comparison.

He really wasn't. You see him fishing around his pocket as he's walking up to the podium, pull it out (on the audience's side, in full view of everyone) and discretely pop it onto the top of the stand.

It was his handkerchief...

:15 seconds in.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/clip/4006220

Everyone doesn't keep a handkerchief in their coat pocket/shirt pocket. Many keep them in their jacket or pants pocket. And he put it on the podium at the start.

My lord...this is just as stupid as the democrats saying it was the altitude for Obama that caused him to have issues.

CynicalLA: Obama look tired and the body language was horrible for a debate. This article seems a little desperate.

And here's why folks didn't care about the fact that Romney managed to whip out 28 lies in 34 minutes. "Sure, he's a lying used car salesman, but damn, didn't he look better than the other guy? Yeah! Let's vote for him!"

This is how Dubya got into office, too. Gore may have been wooden when debating Bush, but he was also correct - and in America, "correct" doesn't matter anywhere near as much as "photogenic." Bush handily won debates because he looked better, not because he knew what the hell he was talking about on just about any subject.

This very rationalization is why the media is giving the debate to Romney - it's not a "debate", it's a friggin' catwalk. Romney looked better than Obama on the catwalk - he lied, he dissembled, and he was clueless, but he looked better and that, apparently, was all that mattered.

I don't care for Romney, and I generally feel that Republican politicians are more likely to lie, cheat, distort facts, and manipulate voters than Democratic ones. So I especially hate it when liberals jump on something like this and declare it true without the facts. It's fine that the question was raised; if he did cheat, that would be a character issue if nothing else, but credible analysts were saying handkerchief, and he used it later in the debate. To keep saying it was notes is to be like the climate change deniers, who ignore the credible evidence and hang on the lunatic fringe.

It just makes us look bad.

Did anyone notice that a 90-minute exchange of talking points doesn't matter at all?

That you can't get an in-depth, fact-checked explanation of complex issues in 90 minutes of banter?

That the President of the United States has rarely, if ever, been required to use off-the-cuff debate as part of his job duties?

That this was basically futility in action, and if you're really interested in what a President will do, you have to do some real work to understand the basis and outcome of the policies they propose and their track record?

Executive policy proposals and implementations have nothing to do with battles of wits or memorized talking points. They come from working with committees and commissions, working with experts, and making complicated written plans.

This is all marketing bullshiat.

[i883.photobucket.com image 430x326]

Lenny_da_Hog: Did anyone notice that a 90-minute exchange of talking points doesn't matter at all?

That you can't get an in-depth, fact-checked explanation of complex issues in 90 minutes of banter?

That the President of the United States has rarely, if ever, been required to use off-the-cuff debate as part of his job duties?

That this was basically futility in action, and if you're really interested in what a President will do, you have to do some real work to understand the basis and outcome of the policies they propose and their track record?

Executive policy proposals and implementations have nothing to do with battles of wits or memorized talking points. They come from working with committees and commissions, working with experts, and making complicated written plans.

This is all marketing bullshiat.

What do you think the entire election process is? Politicians are nothing more than glorified celebrities.

the money is in the banana stand: Yet when Clinton lied he was ok.

Clinton lied about getting a blowjob. Romney lied about his own policies, facts regarding the country and Obama's policies. Somehow these two are not equivalent.

FormlessOne: CynicalLA: Obama look tired and the body language was horrible for a debate.

But I was told Obama was the greatest orator of our time.

2012-10-05 02:44:53 PM

Via Infinito: Quasar: Is this like how Bush (or was it McCain) must have had an earpiece?

No this is more straight forward. He clearly took paper out of his pocket and put it on the podium.

There's another video that shows him going back to the podium later and collecting all his papers before he leaves.
Not that it's particularly suspicious, but we can't leave our crib notes on the podium, now can we?

I clearly remember one of Obama's aides coming up after the debate and taking the notes from his podium as well. I also remember a couple of shots of Romney using a white handkerchief to wipe at his face. That doesn't exclude the possibility of something being written or hidden in the handkerchief, but this whole thing smells of dailyKOS desperation.

Someone in the thread linked to an article that first explains that the debate rules have not yet been made public, and then explains the rules for the 2004 debates. And then the author of said article speculates that a handkerchief is not a "tangible object." I can easily imagine Romney sneaking notes into the debate. He's that kind of slimy bastard.

However, this isn't some kind of "contest" where failure to adhere to "the rules" disqualifies you from further participation. It's not like Romney can be sent home in disgrace even if it was proven true, or gets points taken off his final score.

Attack Romney on something substantial, like his continual flip-flopping or his continued refusal to present an actual tax plan. Not whether he's too stupid to debate without a fistful of index cards.

To be fair, it's not like the truth is relevant at all. We learned this from Saint Reagan and his campaign. Well, the Republicans learned it at least, the Democrats need to catch up or figure out a way to make blatantly lying no longer beneficial.
