quizzical: This is dumb. Romney has been in politics for years, and he's prepped for debates many times. It's easy to believe that, when everyone said the fate of his campaign was hanging on his performance, he worked hard and had a good night as a result. This whole line of attack makes it seem INCONCEIVABLE that Romney could have a good night without cheating, and that isn't the case.
lennavan: [i.imgur.com image 300x300]LATER IN THE DEBATE MITT ROMNEY SNIFFED HIS CHEATING NOTES HOLY CRAP THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT DESERVES ALL OF OUR ATTENTION
RockofAges: It's a handkerchief concealing something.
RockofAges: if you can't tell that the kerchief is simply being used as a visual and rhetorical ally you MIGHT just be less intelligent than average, and surely less perceptive.
RockofAges: I could tell because I'm not a brainwashed idiot who thinks that Romney is above this sort of tacticThis
A Shambling Mound: Hale-Bopp: kimwim: Why would he have put a hanky on the table? That would have been weird. And a hanky isn't so large, with such heft. He is a lying sack of shiat, through and through.THIS.It landed on the podium dead flat and with weight. Veeeeerry interesting. You two sound like folks that don't own $80.00+ handkerchiefs.Seriously, go check out some really expensive cloth hankies and see how heavy they are, then fold one up and toss on a surface.I dislike Romney as much as anyone else with an ounce of common sense and less than a million in the bank but I don't see what the fuss is here. The dude had a piece of cloth in his pocket.
quizzical: This whole line of attack makes it seem INCONCEIVABLE that Romney could have a good night without cheating, and that isn't the case.
Quasar: Is this like how Bush (or was it McCain) must have had an earpiece?
badaboom: mrshowrules: For everyone arguing that the the hanky was too bulky, obviously you don't know what 4,000 threadcount Armani custom hankerchief, made with Burmese albino spider silk cleansed in the tears of children orphaned by parents who died because they lost their health care due to their jobs being outsourced by Bain Capital, weighs.Dollars Bain capital cost you and your grandchildren: $0Dollars Obama cost you and your grandchildren: $4 trillion
badaboom: Ever see the first few posts in any link to a Conservative site?
Spaz-master: Exactly. Gotta love the many attempts at trying to defend the abysmal performance of the President.
star_topology: Why put a handkerchief on a podium?
lennavan: Spaz-master: Exactly. Gotta love the many attempts at trying to defend the abysmal performance of the President. No I don't. The POTUS did a shiat job. Romney clearly gained more politically out of the debate than Obama did. But rather than hammer on how Romney has no concrete plans whatsoever, rather than focus on discussing topics the POTUS failed to hit, we're biatching about a handkerchief?I mean I thought Romney was a bit better but if the best the left has is handkerchiefgate, then apparently Romney wiped the floor with Obama.
XyzzyBob: There were no rules, as far as I know, stated at the start of the debate... only the format.
Treygreen13: Baz744: If he did, then reasonable observers will agree that...Reasonable observers would look at the hundred or so links above of Romney using that same handkerchief later and drop this whole silly issue.
Vegan Meat Popsicle: badaboom: Ever see the first few posts in any link to a Conservative site? That's because the only conservative sites that ever get linked are complete bullshiat like American Thinker or PJ Media. It's not our fault the right-wingers on this site insist on submitting apoplectic garbage full of lies and massively twisted "logic" instead of finding something reasonable and intelligent.
wotthefark: It was his jizz rag.
Debeo Summa Credo: So now we've gone from "Obama lost because the moderator sucked" to "Obama lost on purpose to trick Romney into giving him sound bytes for ads" to "nuh-uh, Obama didn't lose but MSM is just saying he did" to "Romney cheated"Absolutely hysterical!! What will be the next excuse?/don't worry so much, it's just one debate. Obama's still way ahead.
Baz744: I'm not saying it's conclusive that Romney used crib notes. But the fact that he also had a handkerchief in his possession does not rule out or even really undermine the proposition that he used notes, since it is perfectly possible for him to have brought both. And, it is at least somewhat suspicious that Mitt appeared to pull the document in question from his sleeve, and not his pocket. At the minimum, it's worth a reporter or three putting the question to him directly, to put him on record in case it is later discovered that he did bring notes.
SlothB77: Romney was always just looking at Obama with his hands at his side, moving little.
Headso: This comes off even more whiny than complaining about the moderator, the conspiracy theory adds a zest of crazy too.
RockofAges: My evidence is using my own two eyes and my brain to come to a rational conclusion
RockofAges: in tandem with what is clearly a five pound handkerchief with the stiffness of a cardboard box.
RockofAges: Oh, and the "slick delivery".
RockofAges: It's so obvious that he's attempting to hide the placement from the crowd that you'd have to be a complete rube to willfully ignore it.
SideshowRaheem: You know how you feel when conservative sites put forward something so ridiculous that you can't believe people far for it? Yeah, this is the liberal version of that.
lennavan: I mean I thought Romney was a bit better but if the best the left has is handkerchiefgate, then apparently Romney wiped the floor with Obama.
star_topology: JackieRabbit: The Daily Kos is so farking stupid. That was quite clearly a handkerchief. Why put a handkerchief on a podium?
kimwim: Why would he have put a hanky on the table? That would have been weird. And a hanky isn't so large, with such heft. He is a lying sack of shiat, through and through.
badaboom: Funny, we feel the same exact way about the Daily Kos.
Baz744: lennavan: I mean I thought Romney was a bit better but if the best the left has is handkerchiefgate, then apparently Romney wiped the floor with Obama.Meh. This is a post on DailyKos. Neither the Obama campaign, nor the Democratic Party, nor any major figure on "the left" has made a big deal out of this. They've focused instead on what is verifiable.I haven't looked, but I also haven't seen a thread for the unemployment numbers that were released today, that favor Obama. Remember: the mods here select the daily Fark discussion issues. Not "the left" or any institutional figures on the left.

Magorn: Peter von Nostrand: WTF does "hinky" mean?We also did this shiat years ago with the Bush "earpiece" thing. Fark aroundInterestingly enough, I more or less recieved indirect confimation that it was SOP for Bush and Rove to do an earpiece and microphone thing at most major speeches Bush gave. I knew a guy who is a "rigger" in Downtown DC and sets up lights/sound etc for most press conferences and televised speeches downtown. He told me flat out that the POTUS and his crew alway brought their own Camera that faced the crowd and fed to a montor Karl rove Watched and that he'd radio speech updates/alterations to Bush on the fly based on the crowd's reaction to what the president was saying
syrynxx: JusticeandIndependence:Look up the term 'threadshiatting' some time. There's no need to post the same image 700 times in multiple posts, you idiot.
Vegan Meat Popsicle: star_topology: Why put a handkerchief on a podium?Because he's an idiot? I don't know. But he picks the damn thing up and wipes his face with it later. You think he's using his cheat sheet to wipe his face?
Baz744: I haven't looked, but I also haven't seen a thread for the unemployment numbers that were released today, that favor Obama. Remember: the mods here select the daily Fark discussion issues. Not "the left" or any institutional figures on the left.
89 Stick-Up Kid: What I find amusing is that Mitt will still lose because his fellow republicans won't vote for someone in that crazy religion.
RockofAges: Ultimately, it's a minor and / or inconsequential event. I think its slimy, but it's not like I'll spend time thinking about it beyond today or maybe tomorrow.
RockofAges: But I choose to believe it because...
