Jack Welsh is also the guy who dismissively said on the Colbert Report that outsourcing has been great for America.

So:
Anything that looks even remotely bad for Romney = Grand conspiracy or falsehood to get Obama reelected.
Anything that looks even remotely bad for Obama = God's honest truth and should be trusted with every fiber of your being.

does that cover it?

Isn't this a repeat? How many unemployment numbers followup stories are we going to get?

2012-10-05 11:38:22 AM
Well, America had a nice run, but she can't compete with the massive amount of FUD because 40% of the country doesn't like the president despite things getting demonstratively and quantitatively better over the last 4 years.

I wish we had a computer sim of the last 4 years, and we could see what would happen if Republicans hadn't made Obama being a one term president their number one goal, and instead had worked with him.

He has every right to be suspicious. Top business leaders had been colluding to keep unemployment high by not hiring. This flys in the face of their efforts.

I am sure some have been delaying hiring in hope of influencing the election. I mean, if you are running a large corporation you know that announcing a large hire of people would be good news for the incumbent.

I think there will be a sudden slight drop in unemployment right after the election no matter who wins.

There is another side to this story. They want the numbers to look bad for Obama so that once Romney gets elected they can spend the next couple of months padding their numbers and it gives them the ability to say, "Look at how much the economy jumped as soon as the election happened. This proves that businesses were just holding back in fear of Obama's policies."

They have already said that businesses are holding back because of his policies.

I pretty much feel the same way... We would be in a MUCH better position right now than had they not resorted to scorched earth politics...

Burn everything to make him a 1 turn president! We HAVE to show "those people" and our constituents that "those people" are simply not bred for running a country! Socialism!

Or how about a sim of what would have happened had the stimulus/auto bailout/TARP not been implemented?

/Oh, and a sim for what Craig Kilborn's career would look like had he not left the Daily Show

It was Jack Welch, standing in GE subsidiary NBC's election night coverage studio on Election Night in 2000, who said (though the numbers were still technically inconclusive), "Call it for Bush."

Simply a data point, nothing more.

The leader of the "job truther" movement: former GE CEO Jack Welch.

"Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..can't debate so change numbers," he said on Twitter.

I would just like to take this moment to remind people GE has made $80 Billion in the last decade, paying a 2.3% tax rate on that profit.

Good:

Point out that unemployment statistics often ignore the long term unemployed and those who have given up on job hunts altogether.

Bad:

Go full retard and rant about conspiracies.

Pretty much sums up the extent of GOP planing these days.
Egg sucking dogs would be more helpful.
Four years of intentionally dragging the country down "because there is a farking Black Man in OUR White House" is so old and busted.

These fundies are not going to get over it. Call it what it is, TREASON, and start hanging the asshats.

There is no butthurt like Fundie Butthurt. It is of biblical proportions.

the best GE idea he ever heard was 'selling Pepto Bismol and Depends in the parking lot'

Yes, the same Jack Welsh who would fire 10% of his executives yearly based on the vote (effectively) of all of those executives. Look up "vitality curve" to see what I mean.

He's an overrated buffoon who's opinion is worth less than dog shiat.

Partially.

I read a Jack Welch book once. That was a terrible idea.

Here is a man who had one trick, seeing the end of the 70s fascination with conglomerates, and parlaying that in the age of Reagan into fame amongst MBA students. He himself hasn't run anything since bailing out with his golden parachute is ballyhooed proteges were all exposed to be hacks. Nardelli received multiple chances to fark up.

I would atleast expect a bump after QE3.

After QE10 and 11 we might have things back to normal.

dontpointthatthingatme: The timing is a little suspect

The jobs reports are released on a timed schedule. I could have told you a year ago that there would be a BLS jobs report today because that's been on the BLS schedule for that long.

If the report was bad, none of the right wingnuts would have any problems with the timing. "Ooooh, and the hits on Obama just keep coming!"

The BLS report schedule from this past year:

October 2011 - Nov. 04, 2011 - 08:30 AM
November 2011 - Dec. 02, 2011 - 08:30 AM
December 2011 - Jan. 06, 2012 - 08:30 AM
January 2012 - Feb. 03, 2012 - 08:30 AM
February 2012 - Mar. 09, 2012 - 08:30 AM
March 2012 - Apr. 06, 2012 - 08:30 AM
April 2012 - May. 04, 2012 - 08:30 AM
May 2012 - Jun. 01, 2012 - 08:30 AM
June 2012 - Jul. 06, 2012 - 08:30 AM
July 2012 - Aug. 03, 2012 - 08:30 AM
August 2012 - Sep. 07, 2012 - 08:30 AM
September 2012 - Oct. 05, 2012 - 08:30 AM
October 2012 - Nov. 02, 2012 - 08:30 AM
November 2012 - Dec. 07, 2012 - 08:30 AM

Jack Welch is a douche-- but he's got a point about how fungible those unemployment numbers are. As some other posters have noted, they're pretty easily moved a few points either way by how long term unemployed and those no longer seeking jobs are counted.

/csb on

I live in DC-- don't work around politics or gov't but can't help but have friends who do. Was having a drink this weekend with buddy who works in communications and press as Dep't of Human Service.

He told me there is a 100% hold on all announcements and press releases at the agency until after the election. Reason given: "don't want to give Republicans anything to make trouble with".

// csb off

So yes, our government's announcements, even the most mundane, are often politicized-- by both sides.
