(Kens 5 San Antonio)   American Airlines says the cause of loose seats in their planes was because of all YOU careless slobs, certainly not a design flaw or anything like that. Sheez, you filthy animals, clean up your act   (kens5.com) divider line 96

Yeah, whatever happened to personal responsibility?

Their answer is a bullsh*t cover your ass answer. The spokesman the other day who said it was American Airlines fault is probably in the unemployment line right now. How come this happened twice in one week on two different AA planes and is not happening on any other airline nor ever in recent history? Knock off the BS. You installed the seats wrong.

I'm pretty sure that a bracket that malfunctions when sticky liquids are spilled on it can be classified under the "Design Flaw" category....

I'm pretty sure American Airlines designs and manufactures planes.

I'm guessing it's a maintenance issue. If it were a design flaw this would be happening on more airlines than just AA

Looks like American Airlines doesn't clean their planes like they should.

WHY DOES THE TSA ALLOW LIQUIDS ON PLANES AT ALL?! THE TERRORISTS JUST WON! AGAIN!

Surely, they can't be serious.

American's management is raping the company, blaming the employees in the media but they've gone too far and they're backed themselves into a corner. The result of that is stupid press releases such of this.

Their name is American Airlines. Their equipment should be able to handle 300 pound passengers without falling apart. Anything else is false advertising.

Sombody please help me understand this.

Late Thursday, American said the loose seats causing delays and cancellations this week were not the result of human or mechanical failure, as the airline once suspected.

If it's not human failure and it's not mechanical failure, what kind of failure is it?

2012-10-05 01:43:05 PM
There have never been any seat mount problems with the B-757, so I think AA is just being nice. The mechanisms were not designed to take years of supporting the Standard American Lardass they have to support these days.

2012-10-05 01:43:05 PM
How can they already have a fix for this, unless they knew it would happen a long time ago?

I believe that American already noted that the seat work on 757's was outsourced to another company and was not done by their union maintenance workers.

The kind caused by worn pins on the mechanical device that isn't verified as being securely locked by the stupid humans that are using it?

I don't have a degree in mechanical engineering but in my experience when you spill sticky liquids on most things they would tend to jam up, and if anything not come unlocked.

These are jet aircraft and there is typically extensive paperwork including an audit trail on pretty much everything. Who is using the same locks (800+ aircraft operated and operated by 4 of the major carriers) and have they had an issue? Are the locks on backwards? Who installed the locks, were they airline mechanics or foreigners as the union is stating? These are not difficult questions to answer, throwing up these smoke-and-mirror excuses is a diversion at best.

The media should be asking these questions and either reporting the answers or that AA is either refusing to answer or is unsure (incompetent), rather than reporting these fluff pieces that are a waste of time.

American Airlines said spilled soda and coffee caused a worn mechanism to fail and seats to come unhinged from the floor on some of its Boeing 757 aircraft.

Poor execution of seat rearrangement or labor dispute backlash more likely.

The 40 year old seats are designed to hold 200 lb Americans, not 300 lb Americans.

Software failure. A trouble ticket was open, and the developers are working on a patch. What more do you want?

Perhaps it is a matter of all the Fattie McFattersens plopping their corpulent asses down in those seats day after day that is causing them to get knocked loose. I swear, the obesity in North America (yeah I'm looking at you too Canada) is sickening. Seriously folks, when you go out to eat do you REALLY need TWO farking chicken-fried pork chops AND a huge mound of mashed potatoes with gravy all over it, with a large glass of carbonated sugar water to wash it all down?

Oh but this is 'Murica (and Canada), and in these here parts we expect that if'n we go out to dinner & gotta pay $12 for shiatty food, well by golly you'd better put a BUNCH of that shiatty food on our plates.

/Places like Cotton Patch and Good Eats seem to be veritable temples of gluttony.
//and don't get me started on Golden Corral

Every family car in America would be gravely unsafe and/or a pile of bolts if "spilled soda and coffee" caused mechanical failure.

Is that union thing still going on?

2012-10-05 02:16:53 PM
Hey AA, I have a eal for you.

I won't spill my coffee if you'll provide a decent cup for it and do a better job of avoiding turbulence.

2012-10-05 02:19:46 PM
American Airlines is one of the most pathetic operations I've ever dealt with. It is nearly impossible to take a flight on AA without enduring some kind of ridiculous hassle. If it wouldn't result in major economic turmoil for the DFW area, I'd be delighted to see them finally go tits up.

Southwest Airlines FTW.

2012-10-05 02:20:40 PM
Oh, well, that explains why you can't bring liquids on planes.

Why did not TSA just say so?
They missed the boat on popcorn.
