I sold my house for a 50K profit in September and bought a brand new one. Builder told me the bottom was reached earlier this year and his business is now booming again.

Anecdotal evidence how does it work?

Here's one...

From TFA: "For more information on the actual unemployment rate versus Obama administration statistics, read Jerome Corsi's Red Alert, the premium, online intelligence news source by the WND staff writer, columnist and author of "Where's the Birth Certificate?" and the "Where's the Real Birth Certificate?" e-book."

Yep, truly reliable source there, matey. I am convinced. My whole life up to this point has been a lie!

What the hell does that have to do with two idiots arguing about which of their anecdotes are more indicative of the housing market overall?

U6 is one of the most abused statistics ever devised. If you're not an economist, do my blood pressure a favor and never cite it for any reason ever again. Heck - if you're an economist but your specialty isn't labor, never cite it. My specialty isn't labor, so I never cite it. It's useful only in a very narrow set of analytic circumstances.

Look, it's going to be hard for some people to accept that the economy got better. No amount of anecdotal evidence to the contrary or amateur use of statistics you don't fully understand is going to change that.

Brubold: impaler: Brubold: GAT_00: So unemployment is now lower than when he took office. There go a swarm of GOP talking points.

Yeah if that unemployment number meant anything you'd have a point. The reason the number keeps inching down is because people keep dropping out of the work force because they can't find work. As Romney points out, the real number would be closer to 11% if that wasn't the case.

Then why is U6 dropping?

Dumbarse.

It hasn't dropped. It stayed at 14.7%.

Since Obama passed his first budget in October 2009, the U6 has dropped from 17.2% to 14.7%. So it has been dropping gradually.

He had to give up on that account or he was banned. I'm sure he still appears as this or that alt.

U3 was 7.6 when he took office on 1/20/09. This is only relevant to these clowns who have been braying on and on about unemployment for the last 4 years because they can't hang their hat on "Higher than 8%!" any more.

It's pathetic. When unemployment drops below 7.6 during the post halloween ramp up in retail, the line will change to "underemployment". If it's proven that the average pay for these jobs is higher than it has been for the last 5 years, the line will change to "you can't pay a guy to dig a hole and fill it in hurr durr." and we can fondly reminisce about the TARP debate and stimulus.

I wasn't sure how early he had access......but he did seem really relaxed.....so I thought that might be why (not that he did so poorly, just why he seemed laid back)

incendi: Giltric: how does 300k+ new jobless claims a week add up to a lower unemployment rate when you create only 100k jobs in a month.

Perhaps you can find your answer here since you seem deadset on ignoring the fact that multiple people have already answered that question in this very thread.

The answer to that question is quite simple. The 114K new jobs figure is the NET number of jobs created from the previous month. That might mean that 1,114,000 new hires occurred for the month while 1,000,000 lost a job. That is why new jobless claims can be 300+K per week and still have a drop in unemployment.

It is depressing that some people are so ignorant to what these financial/economic reports represent.

hdhale: I think that once enough people are convinced that Christmas season employment is the only work they are likely to get any time soon, and the only way their kids are going to see presents, suddenly taking a massive paycut to hop back into the workforce and unload boxes of Chinese goods at Walmart sounds pretty damn good.

For all you cheering right, will you be cursing Obama come January when the unemployment rate rises well above 8% again? Nah, you'll go back to mumbling about Bush again I'm sure, win or lose in November.

Since Bush put an unnecessary war, a giant new fed department, and 90k Iraqis on the federal payroll, and expanded Medicare, all on the national credit card...grumbling about the Bushtards will be appropriate for about three decades, at least.
