So if the BLS are in for Obama why did they take so long to move it down to 7.8%? Why didn;t they do it months ago and why did they stop at 7.8%? If they were in control they could have made it into anything they wanted like 6.5% or 6%.

See this is where your conspiracy breaks down. If you have the ability to control information you can pretty much make up whatever crap you want to, kinda like Fox News.

An economist that used to work at the BLS donated $270 to Obama!!!

I know, right? It's almost as if there has been positive job growth for over 3 years now and that the unemployment rate has been falling slowly but steadily for well over 2 years. It's nuts to think that trend actually continued. Conspiracy is the far more likely explanation... Occam's Razor be damned!

Mi-5: Hermione_Granger: I'm very critical supporter of President of Obama, mainly because I think the Republicans are just plain slave masters in training. But even I can do simple math.

When Obama became President, unemployment bottomed out at around 16%. He said he would get it to 6%. Every week I watch the Sunday morning bobblehead shows and they're all like

- unemployment is still over 10% - OMG!! WHARGARBLE!!1111!
- unemployment is still over 9% - The President is lying scum.
- unemployment is still over 8.6% - the sky is falling, Obama has not kept his promise!
- unemployment is at 8.45 - The President is full of shiat.
- unemployment is at 8% - why can't this President get it together? What is his problem? He's not working for the economy at all!

Now that unemployment is at 7.8%, I expect their heads are just gonna explode and they're going to declare him an unpatriotic traitor who hates America....

....oh wait

First, the President has NEVER said he would get unemployment to 6%. Ever. That little tidbit can from an economic analysis that said the stimulus MIGHT get unemployment to 6% if all of it was implemented.

You are only repeating Romney lie. I highly suggest you adjust from this point forward.

The BLS commissioner job is a 4 yr appointment confirmed by the Senate. The GWB appointee, Keith Hall, just finished his term in the end of 2011. Since then, the Dep. Commissioner, John Galvin, has been the acting director. He's been at the BLS since the '70s.

And speaking of the former commissioner, here's his take on the issue:

Unemployment manipulation impossible, says former Labor official

What's to believe when it doesn't truly reflect the percentage unemployed which should include those who have given up? Funny this comes out after Obama got his butt waxed and one month before the election. Figures can lie and liars can figure.

This reminds me of when the CIA station in Iraq started giving out reports detailed the insurgency was gaining strength and the war was not "accomplished"

What did the Bush administration and the Pentagon do? They called into question the political affiliation of said CIA agents, demanding to know if they were registered Democrats.

Here's the problem... you guys seem to have put some mythical power on the 8% number because you have been saying for at least a year that no president has been reelected with unemployment over 8% since the Great Depression. Don't you understand that the right-wing created this talking point themselves and now that the unemployment rate dropped .3% (under 8) you guys are shiatting bricks. You should be saying that 7.8% is ludicrous or nothing to crow about (which it isn't). But you've swallowed the previous talking point for so long, you have convinced yourself that the whole farking country was looking at 8%, 8%, 8%... as the tipping point, but it was only right-wingers on the edge of their seat over the 8% number.

Obviously I'm not going to pretend to represent liberals as a whole, but this report was good, but not great. 114K jobs and the previous months' revisions are all good, the drop in the unemployment # is good. The fact that so many part time jobs had a major impact on it is not. All this represents is another relatively small step in the right direction, continuing a trend that began at least 2 years ago. But you guys are so hung up on the number being below 8% because of the talking point you've been spouting for about a year, that you are flinging poo at a rate that rivals the CIWS system... it's scary.
