Funny how the BLS didn't lower the unemployment for the 2010 election huh?

DaCaptain19: incendi: DaCaptain19: Unemployment is lower due to more and more people giving up looking for a job.

Not this time, Cap'n.

Well, it would seem "simple" farkers see this number and attribute anyone who doesn't agree with it a "republican".

I go deeper than that. I don't trust the government - period. I don't care who the f*ck gets elected - it ain't the person, it's the system. The system is not broke, it's unfix-ably broke.

Lies, Liars and Damn Liars. These are your leaders.

BLS is not a political organization. It is like saying the CDC is trying to stop epidemics to make Obama look good or the Pentegon trying to fail in Afganistan to give the Boot to him. While Politicains and political appointies are suspect, the career employees are actually just trying to do their jobs and make things work.

Were the numbers right when they showed 10.1% unemployment a couple years ago? Are they always WORSE than reported or are the 'real' numbers sometimes better than reported? In fact, how do you know what the 'real' numbers are? You must have the real numbers to know that the reported numbers are false, right?

randomjsa: Yes, we knew back in January that no matter what level of BS was required or how much you had to play with the numbers. The unemployment rate would magically drop just before the election.

You seriously think that one month ago we had 3 times more people give up looking for a job than actually find a job... But this month we add more jobs in a single month than at any point in the last 29 years?

Incidentally even if this is true, Obama has the worst record for jobs since WW2.

What's worse, that these people are unemployed, or that you're happy about it? Party before country, typical randomjsa position.

No, he pretty much nailed you on that. You clearly have no idea what seasonal adjustment refers to.

Let me guess, you're one of these Zero Hedge morons who deducts the (not-seasonally-adjusted) birth-death adjustment from the (seasonally-adjusted) jobs number too?

Don Dokken: I believe this is the first October Surprise that involved cooking the books.

So how does it work exactly? Is Obama able to cook up to 1% or what? Does he give them the final number and the Bureau of Labor Information to reverse engineer the statistics. Is he skewing based on payroll reports or the 300,000 interview sample that is conducted by BLI employees? How much lead time do they need?

If you an support this, it is your civic duty to report it to the Romney campaign because they are in the dark about the conspiracy. Also, don't have children please.

seadoo2006: Sorry ... my post did come off as right wing-ery, but I assure you I'm one of the biggest flaming, liberal socialist, Democrats around here. However to answer a few posts, U5 still seems high. Maybe there are vast contingents of people out there that literally sit at home every single day of the last 4 years, but I just can't fathom that, but, I'm not a statistician and I'll never claim to be one ... it just seems high.

I got my first paper route when I was 9 years old, held it until I was 16, so I don't even know how that counts into the labor force. Somehow this profession has escaped child labor laws and, as I recall, it was a wholly cash business, so who knows?

And, if 600,000 more people are employed, sounds great, I hope more people keep getting employed. This is not a bad thing. Al I was saying was that it seems very, very, very "off" to me that 1 in 10 people truly aren't working.

Yeah, it started to seem like I was possibly misreading your intent about halfway through writing that. But to the meat of it - persons unemployed longer than 15 weeks is currently at 4.3% of the labor force (and trending downwards). So there's the people that "truly can't find jobs" or are being lazy. And that's like 1 in 20something people, excluding retirees, disabled people, too young to work, etc., so that might seem a little more reasonable to you.

And the paper route thing makes sense, although goodness only knows how much longer we'll actually have news printed on paper.

Well, to be fair, the only logical way to judge whether the economy is recovering is by the various economic indicators that are out there which, basically, are all 'paper' (in the context in which it is used here). So, basically, Tikiman agreed that the economy is recovering and has been, depending on which indicator you choose to look at, for 2 + years.

Well "Fact Checkers" and "The General Theory of Relativity" are on the list. Many aspects of reality are against them clearly but nothing I've seen yet has the GOP complaining that "reality" as a whole is conspiring against them. I suppose it is just a matter of time.
