sprawl15: When the U3 numbers start looking good, it's time to compare U6 numbers under Obama to U3 numbers under Bush.

This. Wait for the comments about how everybody giving up and actually performing mass ritualistic suicide in preparation for the thousand years of darkness as the reason the U3 is so low.

Wow, upon actually looking at the report these numbers really suck. They had to add restatements from prior months to the current month in order for it not to look like a complete disaster. The reality is that the current month was short the 200k jobs needed to keep up with the rate of new people entering the work force. But hey, keep chugging that kool aide my leftist friends.

Well. the big dollar shills were estimating 8.2% all week. It comes in 0.4% lower! Ha. Good news for American workers.

On a personal note, we did a 20% staff increase and my son found work, so yeah, it's real to me.

2012-10-05 09:17:48 AM
I think that once enough people are convinced that Christmas season employment is the only work they are likely to get any time soon, and the only way their kids are going to see presents, suddenly taking a massive paycut to hop back into the workforce and unload boxes of Chinese goods at Walmart sounds pretty damn good.

For all you cheering right, will you be cursing Obama come January when the unemployment rate rises well above 8% again? Nah, you'll go back to mumbling about Bush again I'm sure, win or lose in November.

Which is why Republicans will say these are cooked numbers. Besides, everyone knows you're only allowed to compare the U3 of Bush to the U6 of Obama, because U6 is the real rate but wasn't a concern before the recession so don't look at where it was then.

Pumpernickel bread: Not enough jobs are being produced to put a dent in the unemployment numbers, so this is actually an indicator of something worse - in the past month, thousands of Americans have given up hope of finding a job and just stopped trying.

You know that was last release talking point. Reading the farking article. More people found jobs. Period. Not full time, but as this cycle improves the part time jobs lead to full time. Go be a low rent shill somewhere else.

For me, it's workforce participation being up. I can't shill that into being bad for Obama.

Hell anything that shows the economy is doing better is bad since it might help Obama. Nope, I'd rather have poor economic news because that helps politically.

2012-10-05 09:21:58 AM
The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years. The rate declined because more people found work, a trend that could have an impact on undecided voters in the final month before the presidential election.

Suck it Cons.

2012-10-05 09:21:58 AM
This is HUGE for Obama. Well, it won't really boost him but a bad jobs report coming right after the debate would have been terrible for him.

The rate might be down, but this is by no means a good job report. The labor force participation rate surely declined over this time period.

And the 500k+ jump in part time due to economic... well, we'd rather them be full time, but at least they've got some cashflow now... which will lead to increased demand... which will lead to more jobs. Overall, this was a pretty positive report.

Although I support Obama, these numbers are pure bullshiat. The media should report the total number of unemployed people that are not disabled, retired or in school. That should be the only number they talk about. It does not matter what the politics is, this number they report is useless since unemployment insurance ends at some point and they stop being counted.

Apparently a ton of freedom-loving small businesses have time machines b/c they went back to August and July and hired more people. Like, a LOT more.

Joe Arpaio found some of three-year-old Barack Obama's refrigerator art, depicting a stick figure - identified as "DAAD" - with SIX fingers, proving that Obama is really the illegitimate son of Count Rugen, born in Florin, and thus not eligible for the Presidency.

44 continuous months of over 8% unemployment, then all of a sudden the sun comes out a month before the election.
What a fraud.
At least we can take comfort in knowing the last job Obobo destroys will be his own.

Grand_Moff_Joseph: Pumpernickel bread: Not enough jobs are being produced to put a dent in the unemployment numbers, so this is actually an indicator of something worse - in the past month, thousands of Americans have given up hope of finding a job and just stopped trying.

Um, you may want to double check Dusk's post a couple of entries above yours. Labor force participation is actually up.

Still, even if you're right in the end, 9/10 people only care what the top line number is - not what the math is behind it.

Those numbers just don't jibe. Can't say it is all Obama's fault. He had little to do with the cause of this, but there just can't be a meaningful drop in unemployment when we are producing less than 200k jobs a month. The only thing that could explain it is immigration slowing down and maybe emmigration ramping up

2012-10-05 09:25:27 AM
The unemployment rate went down because Romney won the first debate. Duh.

Wait a minute, aren't these figs always "seasonally adjusted"? Wouldn't that account for any holiday hiring?

And BTW, you can't use the numbers as presented when they work for you and complain about them when they don't. You were happywith them when you thought they made 0bummajahd look bad.
