I just frame-advanced the replay...Craig touched the bag before Chipper got there.

THIS

Uggla's numbers are pretty good with two outs and men on. Shocker.

2012-10-05 08:35:06 PM

silgryphon: Uggla will strike out or pop out

Why did I read that as "strike out or poop out"?

2012-10-05 08:35:18 PM
Unrelated to baseball, got a splinter at work, digging it out with a needle. God damn trying to find this thing by pain alone.

puffy999: Dafatone: You guys are goddamned idiots. How many better third basemen can you name?

... That says more about the position than anything.

LOL gap shot, ground rule double. Braves still have a chance.

303 career hitter, 401 career OBP, 1600+ runs and rbi, and a career 141 ops+

WAR has him 31st among position players alltime.

2012-10-05 08:35:30 PM
2nd and 3rd, two outs.....

2012-10-05 08:35:31 PM
That second baseman didn't need to make that farked up play. He could have stopped, set and still thrown Chipper out be two steps.

The All-Powerful Atheismo: Dafatone: The All-Powerful Atheismo: puffy999: The All-Powerful Atheismo: I do not think he's a great player.

A very good player for a long time. Nothing wrong with that... be thankful he wasn't a Yankee, because the hype would've been Jeter-like.

He's been good and he's got longevity but what I've seen has seemed Jeter-like which is why I am indifferent. He isn't as good as they say.

You guys are goddamned idiots. How many better third basemen can you name?

I can name half a dozen off the top of my head. He's just been good and played for a long time. Not great. And if we're talking about his skill as a position player, how many GGs does he have? ___

A half dozen? Do it.

2012-10-05 08:36:07 PM

bulldg4life: spidermilk: OK now we are even on the calls, right?

a single with two outs in the ninth is definitely equal to bases loaded w/ one out

I agree that call was waaaaaaay worse and they should have overturned the call just so that we could win properly...

Chipper Jones last game, walking off the field to a rain of garbage.

No, I don't have to answer your bullshiat challenge. You raised that issue, not me.

I'm talking about him. He's one of those players who has played well for a long time, but he holds few records of note, has not led many stats in any season, and doesn't even have 3000 hits or 500 home runs, the old sure-fire ways of getting into the hall, and has no gold gloves that I'm aware of.

And I never said he wasn't a good player, chode.

Chipper could go be a DH and get those magic numbers if he wanted.

2012-10-05 08:40:19 PM
Heh, when I was a kid, I went to a Braves game in Atlanta. It was "Frisbee night..." everyone got a frisbee with some restaurant logo on it. Pete Rose stole second on a close call, and Braves fans went apeshiat.

The field was white with frisbees. 25-minute delay while they cleared the field.

Champagne flying in the Cards locker room.

WE'RE IN THE BIG BOY PLAYOFFS WHOOOOO

2012-10-05 08:41:54 PM
Cards get into Playoffs via new second wild card spot.
Cards advance with the help of a horrible call.
Cards now play the Nationals minus Strasburg (I hope....there seems to be a rumor he'll play).

2012-10-05 08:42:02 PM

Dafatone: WAR has him 31st among position players alltime.

... again, a statement that has something to do with the position, because a "replacement" third baseman is a fat guy, bad defense, a .230 average, and a few homers more than other infield position players (aside from first base).

He's a great third baseman, a surefire HOFer, but he's one of those guys who was good for a long time more than a league superstar who changed the game/team around him (see: what Pujols was a couple years ago). That's nothing to sneeze at, because it worked for a guy like Hank Aaron.

2012-10-05 08:42:19 PM
And this is why you must win the division next year Braves.

That was uncalled for, insulting, and also factually wrong.

If you don't think hes one of the best then you are an idiot, stats and every other baseball writer, reporter, and owner would say different.

Whatever.

I ask you to name the mythical half-dozen third basemen you claim you can name off the top of your head and you resort to namecalling. Way to be a douche, douche.

/Dude's 162 game average is over 300/30/100.

No, idiot, I refuse to do something just because some asshole said.

Even if it was off the top of my head it would require more effort than you dumbasses are worth. I wasn't insulting any of you, I didn't even say Jones was a bad player, I just said I didn't like the Braves. Then I get personally insulted. So, fark you, be a douche with a small dick if you want, I don't have to do what he says if I don't want. I already explained, with stats, why *I* believe he is good and not great, which was the issue at hand. Deal with it.
