Nobody cares. Apparently. Since Mitt was aggressive and controlled the debate and therefore won, we are not allowed to discuss the actual content of the evenings discussions. Slate is so out of touch. Sheesh.

Content hasn't mattered to them for decades.

Hell, in 2000, they fawned over a Connecticut blueblood just because he wore a cowboy hat.

They have a point; if content mattered then the election would be very different.

Yes.

Read any of the articles from yesterday, nobody cares that he lied his ass off and apparently became a moderate again on a range of issues.

He farked with the moderator the most, so he wins.

So if Obama comes out swinging on the next debate and buries Romney, all without a teleprompter, what will the spin be then?

2012-10-05 09:35:53 AM
If Romney seems more moderate now it's because he had to wade through the righteous anger of the Republican primaries to get to where he is.

I've always liked Romney for what he is, rather than what he had to be.

Romney was liked by left of center conservatives.
Then he screwed it up by trying to out-Tea Party the Tea Partiers.
If you can tell me what Romney actually is, that would be great,
because right now all I'm seeing is 'clueless rich boy
who will Say Anything for the right dollar amount'.

So you like a shameless panderer who's willing to jerk to the center on a wide range of issues in the span of 90 minutes and who shows complete contempt for the people who'd vote for him because he knows at this point even the Tea Partiers won't care that he just abandoned most of its platform with 30 days to go before the election? You sound like a principled chap.

Hooray for liberal Mitt Romney. Maybe his advisors have recommended a turn to the left. That would be great if the next few weeks involve the tea party with talking points about the horrors of tax cuts and the love and security that is governmental regulation.

Then when Obama wins he might be in a better position to finally get some compromise out of the GOP.

Sad but true. Obama will have updated polling data before the next debate. If he still has a comfortable lead, he should rip Romney a new one. Otherwise, I don't think he should change up his style much just drink a Red Bull first. fark the media if they don't get a street fight, he's winning on substance.

Funny, all I hear is "the guy I like lost, so I'm butthurt..."

I think it's been pointed out on multiple occasions in this very forum that Mitt Romney is a center-right candidate, though at the moment I can't place the source/sources. Obama, it's also been stated, is a center-left liberal... by, I believe, the same sources.

So, we continue to get the standard "he's rich... he's disconnected... he's an automaton" to dehumanize him, and then we get attacks because he got the better of Obama in this particular instance, by a majority of accounts.

It would/will be interesting to see what happens if the situation is reversed in the next debate. What I think people miss in this whole farce is that both candidates are intelligent, both candidates are forced, at times, to pander to their bases, and both candidates have views of their own that don't always get displayed.

Politicians lie, politicians spin the truth, politicians work the system to get an upper hand. What a shock.

Ok so the only thing that this really solidifies is that the current crop of republicans that make up the GOP are nothing but mindless sheep who will cheer for anyone as long as they perceive the guy to be on their side (read : has an R next to his name) and considered to be winning. Embarrassing to say the least.

Romney's great leap left continues. They finally got Mitt's campaign module rebooted, but they had to use the boot disk from the time he running for governor of Massachusetts.

Shame it looks like we won't get a greenlight on this. With my recently gifted powers of totalfark I can see a few submissions about it have already been rejected. It probably would have been the most hilarious thread of the day.

Yes, just like they always have.

The mistake that non-conservatives continually make is to assume that everybody uses language for the interchange of ideas and knowledge. A good percentage of the country, doesn't do that. They respond to the phatic language that Romney provided perfectly. (thank you abb3w for the link!)

This may be how it works for years to come. GOP candidates will need to pander to the hard-core right to get through the primaries then back it off for the general so they can appeal to moderates and indies. The only fix appears to be get the early primaries out of the backwoods states and into more mainstream states.

that would be a good idea, they should work on that instead of trying to disenfranchise people, they'd end up with more votes that way.

The base, sure. The GOP has deliberately cultivated and exploited that 'team' mentality, moreso than any other party (although they all do it to some extent). Thus, they get people the GOP's policies would hurt to vote Republican.

Anyone who isn't a wealthy white male Christian that votes Republican is voting against their own self interest. If the GOP *didn't* manipulate the less-informed, they'd never win another election.
