Yes, let's rattle our sabers at a nation that's been undergoing a slow power struggle between the religious government, the secular government, the military, and the populace for decades. Because external threats never cause nations to band together around strong authority figures who promise to deal with the threat.

This is the kind of situation that calls for a soft, diplomatic hand. The people are already largely against their government. We need to support that.

At the very least, shut up until after their next round of elections. See what the people do.

Remember, one of the candidates for president has already been bought off so when Bibi says "sic 'em," he'll put boots to the ground in Iran because, I dunno, they hate freedom and look scary?

I love Haaretz. It's good to see that some Israelis see beyond the bullshiat.

Exactly. The people nearly overthrew the government just three years ago. Demographically, Iran is a very young, reform-minded nation. Their economy is tanking rapidly because of sanctions and international isolation. All the pieces are in place for a progressive revolution to take hold in the next few years.

The main thing that is holding back reform is the threats of war from Israel and the West. A military strike would be catastrophic to the progressive movement.

His unhinged obsession with Iran put him too far out on a limb and his political opponents couldn't be happier about it.

What's the deal with Bibi Netanyahu? Does he shoot pellets? Does he run around netting yahoos? What's the deal with that?

Iran had a democratic government under Prime Minister Mossadegh. Well they did until the CIA convinced the Shah to throw him out of office. And then the US-backed Shah was so popular that the ayatollahs were able to kick him out of power, leading to the current power structure.

Maybe it's time for the US to accept that the common factor in all our farkups concerning the nation of Iran is .... US.

That's some pretty blockbuster stuff, which I have never even heard about, much less read. I'd really love to hear Tatsuma's take on it.

Iranians are familiar with revolutions, so Netanyahu should just STFU already. Ahmedinejad is gone in June, the people are plenty pissed right now with the economy, and eventually they'll take care of this this shiat on their own.

Let the Iranian people sort it out, I say. Maybe they'll actually enact some radical change in Iranian politics, I figure we at least owe them that before we start bombing shiat.
