If you have a true interest in peace, you can look beyond religious affiliation and cultural divides. People like Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Mo Ibrahim, Aung San Suu Kyi, and Jimmy Carter have been both true leaders as well as icons in the struggle to bring world peace.

It's a never-ending battle, but we're all better off for these people having lived and done their good work.

Quakers aren't Christians?

Most other Christian sects would probably say they're not. They don't believe in the Trinity. They don't believe in the Eucharist. There's no demand to accept the divinity of Christ -most Quakers I've met tend to view him as a wise teacher, but not divine.

If more Christian sects were like the Quakers, there'd be fewer problems in the world.

I find their technological stasis foolish, but they just might be the Western religion that has created more good than bad in the world.

Most Quaker denominations aren't actually related to the Luddite movement. They don't produce a lot of really good people, either, but by the same token they don't produce any bad ones either. Mostly they're just really chill about things, which is bad when you want to get something done but pretty nice when all the other religions are busy trying to meddle in your private life. Pleasant, I guess, would be the word.

You still have to follow the 10 Commandments that are in the OT not the NT. You are just a fairweather religious person. But that isn't surprising, a conservative has to be.

I like Tutu. He has my respect for standing with his principles when the ANC turned from the liberation party that they were to the corrupt scumbags that are worse than their predecessors post Mandela. He is one of their biggest critics.

I can't speak to all Friends' Meetings, however, the one in the metro Atlanta area has a basic three year guideline for Religious Education that rotates these topics: Old Testament, New Testament, Quaker Values and History. For very young children, Doctor Suess books are popular with teachers during the Quaker Values year.

As for specifics such as the trinity and belief sets around Christ, it depends on which Quaker you ask. If there is one central tenet of the Religious Society of Friends, I suppose it is that there is that of God in every person. This statement is their foundation for their strong commitment to equality.

There are commonly held testaments. They are taught to children with the acronym SPICE. SPICE represents Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, and Equality.

and before you launch into blaming Israel for said attacks because of their harsh treatment you may want to look at the standard of living under Egyptian vice Israeli control. Under any objective measure (life expectance, literacy, income, infant mortality, # of hospitals and universitiesetc) it was better.
