The NRA should stick with the one thing they were created to do- project the rights of gun owners. Not go mamby pamby with the GOP and sex them up whenever they come calling. Man up NRA and quit being the GOP's biatches.

2012-10-04 06:23:04 PM
Hmm, let's see, who on the NRA's board of directors would put their core principles aside to endorse Mitt?

Let's see, there's Grover Norquist, and Bob Barr, and Ted Nugent.... and the list goes on and on.

"NRA" stands for "National Republican Association" these days.

2012-10-04 06:26:52 PM
Well I called that one. And I seem to recall a few people around here claiming the NRA would do no such thing because they aren't a Republican rubber stamp.

It isn't anymore if it was Mittens would not be the GOP Nominee

You should read the article in the American Rifleman where they act as Romney's fluffer to show that it wasn't his fault when he signed the law or was one of the Brady Campaigns biggest cheerleaders when he was Gov.

Hell even Ebony Magazine didn't slobber all over Obama they way the NRA did for Romney

The current board is, they have jumped the Shark!

Did you know they will not endorse a third party Candidate because they have little chance of Winning?

in the 04 elections I was campaign manger for a State legislature Candidate in AZ, he was an A+ candidate for the NRA, they endorsed the B- Republican instead when I inquired as to why that is what I was told.

If you want to protect your gun rights try Gun Owners of America (GOA) or Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO)

How about endorsing the guy who has expanded gun rights, President Obama?

I took a CCW course and the guy giving it was pushing the NRA hard. He claimed he was a libertarian, but somehow every stance he had coincided with the Republican Party. I appreciated the knowledge taught, but could not believe how much he injected his political opinion into everything. Oh and if you are a real man, join the NRA.

I am,a NRA Benefactor Member, and have real issues with they what they have gone. Remember you are in AZ where unless you are a Democrat you are probably a Far Right Republican no matter what you claim. :)

Glad to hear you did a CCW class though

Neither Obama or Mittens are better than a "C" candidate, Gary Johnson is the only "A" Candidate and thus should be the one with the endorsement

The NRA is no longer a gun rights organization.

2012-10-04 07:53:09 PM
Well here is the Email:

Dear $$$$$$

I'm proud to announce today that your NRA Political Victory Fund is endorsing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for President and Vice President of the United States.

Mitt Romney came to our annual NRA Leadership Forum earlier this year. He looked you, me and every one of our fellow NRA members straight in the eye and pledged to uphold and defend our Second Amendment freedoms.

Mitt Romney will appoint pro-Second Amendment judges to the Supreme Court...defend our sovereign Right to Keep and Bear Arms from the U.N. gun ban treaty...and protect our fundamental right to use a firearm in self-defense!

On the other hand, Barack Obama has spent his entire career trying to take away your freedom to own, use, and carry a firearm.

Whatever you can afford to give RIGHT NOW -- $10, $15, $20, $50, $100 or more -- every dollar will support our nationwide grassroots effort to rally gun owners to elect Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan on Election Day.

Your contribution today will help us contact every gun owner we can reach...knock on tens of thousands of doors... run radio and TV ads in key swing states...and make sure every gun-owning patriot gets to the polls on Election Day!

It's now or never for the rest of our lives. The choice is clear. Please let me hear from you today. Thank you!!!

Sincerely,

Chris W. Cox
Executive Director

P.S. The latest polls show that the race for the White House will be decided by just a few percentage points in a handful of key swing states...states where gun ownership and hunting are respected parts of American life.

That means you -- as an NRA member -- can have a personal and powerful impact on November's election. But only if you help NRA-ILA elect Romney and Ryan today!

If you truly want to save your gun rights and your freedom from four more years of Barack Obama, then you need to help NRA's Institute for Legislative Action lead the fight to elect Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan today.

Funny how they don't list his Assault gun Ban or his public support of the Brady Campaign as decision factors

The NRA, by their actions in the political arena, are either a clearly partisan organization or they're run by racists.

Romney happily signed an assault weapon ban. Said that was a great thing.

Obama said we should ban them, but is smart enough to know it is a non-starter.

One has, by actions, been a gun-grabber. The other talks shiat. Same crap in Kansas; endorse the (R) over teh (D) because Brownback called them up and asked nicely.

If this surprises you, you must have your head so far up your butt your burps smell like shiat

I have to ask a very serious question right now: Obviously the NRA felt the need to belie their core beliefs and endorse Stiff Willard because of the party bs. But if it's so bloody obvious that NEITHER candidate is truly pro-gun, why bother endorsing anyone? The same could be asked of just about everyone who is Republican and doesn't like the dork. I think I speak for the ever-shrinking group of sane, moderate and anti-TP Republicans when I say, that sure as fark isn't a candidate I endorse.

2012-10-04 09:17:21 PM

dr_blasto: Whether Gary Johnson has any bearing on the (he doesn't) is immaterial to the fact that he is the only A-rated person on the AZ ballot.

Do you think the NRA would ever give Obama an A grade even if he made background checks for weapons illegal?

One of the NRA mailers I got - an offer to upgrade from Endowment Life to Benefactor Life - claimed that this was the single most important election in history because Obama won't have to fear backlash when he takes our gun rights away. Also, Fast and Furious mentions, over and over.

If the Clinton anti-scary-gun bill were in front of a President Romney, he'd sign it. Obama may appoint more left-leaning Supreme replacements than I'd like, but Romney showed last night that he's a big jerk. Sorry NRA, no money for you to prop up a big jerk.

I'd argue that AIPAC is more powerful than either because they literally move armies

Who didn't see this headline coming from a mile away?

NRA stopped being about 2nd Amendment rights long ago and is just another GOP Super PAC anymore.

Nope. Even if you took away every single utterance he issued regarding guns that was even remotely negative, still no A rating and no endorsement. We all know this, they know this.

The NRA is partisan hackery, using fear to sucker gullible people out of their cash-just like TV preachers and Best Buy's extended protection schemes. Look at the letter posted above "...defend our sovereign Right to Keep and Bear Arms from the U.N. gun ban treaty" to see. Because they know that if they use the bogeyman of the UN and some treaty designed to control arms exports they'll get the fear cash from the uneducated morons that don't know anything. In the '90's it was ZOG. Now, now it's the UN.

They, in turn, take the cash and line their pockets. Whatever's left they dump on Republican candidates.

My gun store had a picture of Obama hanging up with a sign below it that said "Employee of the Year".

Gun control is a non-issue. The left remembers giving the right Congress in the early 90's because of their idiotic legislation. They won't make that mistake again for at least 12 more years.

Mitt is just an elitist asshole, and probably would sign a new "assault weapons" ban...

2012-10-04 10:10:00 PM
Does the NRA even offer gun safety classes, or classes for hunters to get their license, or anything like that anymore? And if they do offer them, do they actually teach these things, or is most of it just hate speech against democrats and warblgarbl about your rights being "under assault"? Cause I always thought that was a far more important mission than whining about something that could never happen, from either a political or logistical standpoint.

2012-10-04 10:10:25 PM
I defended the NRA. I said that, while they played politics often, that they would never endorse Romney. It would be inexcusable for them.

I was wrong. Never again. The NRA as an organization is despicable and dishonest.

It's not just in gun rights either folks. The two-party system isn't working, and needs some revision. There are better ways to vote so all flavors of the political spectrum are represented, but they require amendments to the Constitution.

Oh wait, I mean Erbama's gerna take err gerns!!

They still do, and their safety training is still quality stuff-depending upon the instructor (like any training, really). The amount of anti-Obama FUD is all in the individual presentation of whomever is giving the class.

My general rule of thumb is anything the NRA or Chamber of Commerce support politically is usually the opposite of what is good for the average person.

In 30 years if watching politics, this is the most bizarre goddamn thing I've ever seen. Any actual 2nd Amendment proponent should cancel their membership ASAP.

Hmm, so not so much a single issue political grassroots group as much as a single talking point astroturf party group. Not that I ever thought otherwise, but integrity isn't something you can easily get back.
