I keep waking up with scratches on my legs. I just reached down to scratch my leg and ended up having to clean up quite a bit of blood. I think I know who's responsible, Juno likes to sleep on my legs and I'm guessing Morticia jumps on the bed and Juno goes flying, using my legs for leverage. I went around and clipped everybody's claws so hopefully that will help.

Forgive me Ceiling Cat, for I haz sinned.

It haz benned one goggie year since mah last 'fession. Since dat time I haz sinned 154 times. I haz cheated by patting and rubbing goggies udder den mah own, including bringing one home wif me three weeks ago (Dat was Caesar).

And onz dis Wednesday, I was feelin' really frisky. I waited until Mrs. CDK went to work and den I shaved a pussy. But, I felt guilty and confessed what I did against her and I den sent her the photos I took....

ferfer72: Hi guys! I know I have been demoted to "that girl who used to post a bunch of LOLs". Sorry. I work most Saturdays now.

In the meantime, I need an opinion from all of you shelter-savvy peeps:

My auditorium will soon be doing a play that traditionally has a few kittens in it. I was thinking it might be cool to feature some kittens from a local shelter and do some sort of "sponsor a kitten adoption" thing to find homes for the kittens we use. Suggestions? Reasons why this is a stupid idea?

After the "end credits" you could go all Oprah... "YOU get a kitty, and YOU get a kitty, and YOU get a kitty, and YOU get a kitty..."

DoomsDayAardvark: OK, so I'm supposed to relate this story, and ask for some recommendations. On Wednesday of last week, two kittens appeared at my girlfriend's mom's house. After a few days of coaxing, they've decided come inside now (no pics yet), but they seem to be covered in oil or some other similar gunk (probably not spinach gunk, though...).

As akimbotoo said, try bathing them in Dawn - it will cut the grease, and (I think) kill fleas to boot. YMMV. Meanwhile, dawwww!

Evening everbuddy. I have been in a major funk the past few days, starting with family issues, continuing on to having to do certain chores that I hate, having to rewire all the AV in the apartment (thanks, Cablevision!), trying to pay bills with money I don't have, and all overlaid with frustration that I can't find a job, to say nothing of my constant worrying about Dragon. This all put me in a foul, absolutely evil mood, so I thought it best if I just stayed away from posting and lurked.

Speaking of the white boy, he seems to be holding his own, although he is starting to vomit a bit more often (a not unexpected side effect of the CRF), but his appetite is still awesome and he is taking his meds like a champ and still has not lost one iota of his in your face attitude....for example:

When I sat down to catch up on the thread tonight, he got up on my desk to keep me company (as he usually does) and at one point, just reached up and slapped me across the face (no claws). I think it was his way of saying...

John Buck 41: Twice in the last week and a half while walking Mickey and Jazzy (neither heel while on a leash) someone from my local public safety dep't (one time a cop, another time a fireman) said "Who's walking who?" I have decided the next time I get this smart-ass question my reply will be, "Well, until they can put their leashes on and open the door, I guess I'M walking THEM."

You should see when we take Butter, Dusty, and Caesar for a walk....BWAHAHAHA!!! Talk about the Three Stooges at a three ring circus. Mrs CDK takes Butter and I take the other two as they are hard pullers who like to randomly switch directions depending on where the "pee-mail" is to be read (my term for sniffing where other dogs have peed).

If I had the money, I would get a 2-dog Sulky like this link and with Dusty and Caesar hooked up would probably get several speeding tickets.

I can see it now...
"Do you know how fast you were goin', Boy?"
"Uhhh, no Sir"
"Well, I clocked you doin' 45 in a 30"
"Hang on...my engines are overheating. I need to give them some water"

My niece's son has a turtle. When they got Michaelangelo he was about 6" around he is now 16" around.
Every time he gets a new tank he grows into it. I told my niece to just fence off part of the basement, get him a kiddie pool and heat lamp and let him go. After 5 years of new tanks I think she really starting to think about because it would be cheaper in the long run.

not the family turtle

Long ago, my roommate caught a wild tortoise and brought it home to live in our apartment as a pet.
We named it 'Butch' (all our pets were called 'Butch back then). Didn't know very much about testudines back then, but remembered dimly they LOVE wet things to eat because they don't drink water. Fed him stuff like lettuce and watermelon rind...and that critter would follow me around the apartment.
Mom came to visit one time and I think it upset her to see my tortoise 'groupie'...she promptly asked around her friends and found another (probably more appropriate) home for it. Didn't miss the poops he left behind, but did kinda miss the 'company'...

As a matter of fact, yes you are. Don't be so harsh on yourself though. It's bad for your self-esteem.

I was always dreading when I would add a comment to this thread. I was always a lurker, reading the stories and laughing at the pics.

But.

I lost one of my oldest companions today. I had to put Timmy (yes say it like on South Park), my 10 year old friend to sleep. He was diagnosed with lymphoma a few weeks back. At that point I thought he simply had a UTI, as he was doing his usual "Grumpy and peeing wherever I want" attitude. Turns out nope. Cancer. At that point he had not eaten in a week (was down to 12 pounds from 15, who knows how long he had been under feeding himself). 2 weeks later he was down to 9 pounds. Today marked the 5th week of not eating or drinking (I was "watering" my cat as I affectionately called the sub-cue injections I had to give him), and he started walking funny. Like his back legs were only 80% stable. Not bad, just noticeable. It was at this point that I finally realized he was not going to get better. There was nothing more I could do, and he was not happy. So I had to put my friend of 10 years, the companion that got me through relationship after relationship (and through a marriage too) to sleep.

Well enough of my sad story. All you needed to know was I lost my friend, and I am sad. SO, I am going to post a couple of my favorite memories of him here, and a picture.

Story 1) At the time I was dating another animal lover, and together we bought our three animals (well I guess she bought them, I just loved them). 2 cats and 1 dog. All crazy in their own rights. So we took these 3 animals to an enclosed outside space. Just a large fenced in yard essentially. We let them all loose. Now the dog was fine, he was trapped not going anywhere. But the 2 cats on the other hand. Well did you know cats can jump? Amazing right?! So we had to devise a method to keep the cats inside the fenced in area. Me, being the smrt person I am decided that if I attached a big stick to the cats leashes (yes, our cats were leash cats) it would throw off there balance enough where they could not jump the fence. Well on this I was spot on. The cats could not figure out how to jump with this 1 pound weight on their back.

Guess who likes sticks? Dogs. Amazing right?!

So the dog (Jacob, a Boston Terrier) sees this stick roaming around the yard. So he tears after it, grabs it and runs away with it.... And Timmy, the attached cat. By the time we got the cat back the entire back of him was stained green from the grass.

I am smrt.

Story 2) So did I mention these animals were not mine? I just loved them? Well that became very apparent when that relationship fell through. Now I had no animals. I was sad. Now this part is partly going to be played from how my head sees these things occurring. But still. I am right cause I am smrt.

When I lost the animals, they all moved to Canada (the evil uninhabitable place near Iraq, and North Korea I think). At this time they were living in some form of dorm environment (she was going to vet school and in Canada vet school people live in communals or something) And Timmy was unhappy (My head says he missed me) and decided that certain people on the floor were his enemies. They were the target of his feeling of lost (cause he missed me!). So he, in his infinite cat logic decided that he was going to poop in front of their doors every day. Yes. Every day. So Timmy got kicked out of this communal hippy vet thingy. And in her infinite wisdom, my Ex realized that Timmy missed me. She she drove Timmy back to my parents house (Chicago-ish) and I got my cat back! He never pooped in front of another door again! See he really did miss me!!!

lethological_lassie: I can attest to the love for flavored yogurt! My Sneaker cat stalks us when we have any Yoplait originals and gets to have a few licks and clean the container. Fortunately I can't attest to the number and quality of the "emissions" because he tends to sleep with Daddy during the day (Daddy works third shift) and Daddy sleeps through everything. HIs deep slumber may be a blessing in this case! :)

Biscuit will eat your face if you don't offer him yogurt (or pudding). He doesn't settle for "I'll save you some" either. He starts to get all panicky if you try to make him wait.

Fortunately he's a fairly emission free model.

Whether you've quit or or trying to quit or still smoke or never smoked, I adore you all for being so supportive! :)

Good for you sweetie! Keep up the good work!

My dad died at 59 from emphysema and right heart failure after years of smoking 3 packs a day. Mom died at 78 and smoked 2 packs a day. She probably would have made it to 100 if she hadn't smoked because her mom died just 6 months before at 2 weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

I tried it once at the age of 8 or so. I had the fortune (or misfortune) of picking up one of dads smoldering butts from the driveway and tried a drag in front of our screen door. Mom fell off of the sofa she was laughing so hard.

mousiebelle: HELP!!! I don't know what to do. Cassie kinda did some coughing/wheezing yesterday briefly, but it went away after some gooshies and hairball stuff. Tonight she did the wheeze thing again and now she's sounding congested. It sounds worse when she purrs. I really can't afford the emergency vet, but I don't know if it's safe to wait until morning. She's acting perfectly normally otherwise, if that makes a difference. I'm worried...

My Ivan has allergies, which cause him to be more snotty and sound real wheezy. It really manifested when we moved up here to Oregon (hello grass valley!), so I did the same, took him to the vet. And went through the same procedures it sounds like. He ended up having an irregular shaped heart on his x-ray, so they sent it to a specialist. After some expensive tests, it turns out his heart is fine, just a little enlarged and odd shaped for no reason. There is nothing wrong with his lungs, and since this started recently, they diagnosed it as allergies. They aren't too bad, so he's not on any medication, but we keep an eye on him in case it gets too bad that he might need something. He's getting wheezier now (especially when he purrs) now since it's getting colder. But he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, and he still runs and plays like normal with no side-effects.

Course, there's cat snot streaked on all the windows from him, and it's never fun when he wants to lay on my pillow and then sneeze a big one into my face...

Well, my eldest cat passed away at 6:30 this morning. She was fine, as far as any of us could tell, up until yesterday. Then she just kinda started laying around more than normal, and skipped dinner. Then when I got up this morning she seemed to be having trouble breathing, and wouldn't budge from where she was at. By the time we located an e-vet that was open(downside of living in the middle of nowhere) she had passed on. She was about 17 years old.

For some damn reason, I can't find a single picture of her except on my phone, and I don't have a cord to connect it to my PC. Blarg.

Yayy! Glad to hear he'll be OK. Nice to have a remedy that's easy to swallow (literally and figuratively!). Mmm, gooshyfood. :)

mousiebelle: Well, Cassie is at the vet. Her breathing didn't sound so great again this morning and I'd much rather have her see the regular vet than go see the e-vet over the weekend. They said they were going to do chest x-rays and let me know what they find. I'm worried... I'll let you know what happens.

Hope everything turns out ok.

George was like this Labor Day weekend. He had pneumonia but some antibiotics later, he was running around and farting like he usually does.

Yes, I said fart, He begs for you to pick him up and then he farts on you.
