akimbotoo: DoomsDayAardvark: OK, so I'm supposed to relate this story, and ask for some recommendations. On Wednesday of last week, two kittens appeared at my girlfriend's mom's house. After a few days of coaxing, they've decided come inside now (no pics yet), but they seem to be covered in oil or some other similar gunk (probably not spinach gunk, though...). Does anybody have any thoughts (or better yet, recommendations for a good groomer in the central Ohio area who could deal with that sort of grossness on a feral kitten)?

Pics forthcoming, I hope

It depends on how old and how cooperative they are, but I would first wrap each one in a towel and have someone assist you with trimming the little needle sharp nail tips with a nail clipper. You only have to trim a tiny bit from the ends to make it much more comfortable when you do give them a bath. I use the kitchen sink because it is deeper and put a hand towel in the bottom of the sink for them to stand on. For greasy spots I think I would use Dawn first to cut the grease and then use a baby shampoo to clean them up more gently. I use the sprayer on low, but I have also used a large cup with warm water to rinse them. Good luck! The feral kittens I caught at my office over the 2 1/2 year time frame stunk like the Marmots they were sharing the area under the deck with. I found out early on that it is important to trim the nails FIRST.

It has never dawned on me to clip nails before bathing, but it sounds like an excellent idea. I've bathed cats, but rarely often enough for them to get used to it. I would expect a pair of feral kittens to either explode or go catatonic until it was over.

Speaking of kittens exploding, if I was planning to bath them, I'd plan on the bathroom rather than the kitchen. Shut the door. Use the towel and hope it helped, but plan to have them actually in the water only long enough to get them wet enough to get soaped down. A toilet seat with the seat and lid down makes a good kitten/cat soaping surface. Get them in the tub or sink and rinsed. Attempt to towel down, although I've never had cats who were trusting cooperate, so I would not expect the kittens to get much drying. I've never tried to blow dry a cat or kitten, so a nice warm room, with a space heater if necessary where they can actually groom dry. Again with the door closed until finished. Good luck with getting them de-greased.

Update on Cassie: Heard from the vet this morning - the blood tests came back normal, but she hadn't heard from the specialist about the x-rays yet. Never did hear from her again. The guy probably took a 3 day weekend. She's starting to sound a tad congested again today. Takes her antibiotic like a champ, though! Hopefully I'll hear what they think of the x-rays tomorrow.

CrankyAndi: sherpa18: Evening everbuddy... Dragon, keep trying to knock sense into him! Sooner or later it will take (and use a claw or two, for emphasis).

sherpa18: Evening everbuddy. I have been in a major funk the past few days, starting with family issues, continuing on to having to do certain chores that I hate, having to rewire all the AV in the apartment (thanks, Cablevision!), trying to pay bills with money I don't have, and all overlaid with frustration that I can't find a job, to say nothing of my constant worrying about Dragon. This all put me in a foul, absolutely evil mood, so I thought it best if I just stayed away from posting and lurked.

Speaking of the white boy, he seems to be holding his own, although he is starting to vomit a bit more often (a not unexpected side effect of the CRF), but his appetite is still awesome and he is taking his meds like a champ and still has not lost one iota of his in your face attitude....for example:

When I sat down to catch up on the thread tonight, he got up on my desk to keep me company (as he usually does) and at one point, just reached up and slapped me across the face (no claws). I think it was his way of saying...

/ so I told him that I would give it a shot
// of course, he wanted to know where his spicy chicken wing was for bringing me to my senses
/// i didn't have the heart to tell him that there will be no more people food until his next blood test

Glad that Dragon is holding his own.. hope you get a good surprise on the blood test.. we are praying.

As was said before, you know that we are here for you if you need us. Pretty soon I'll be sending you an official invitation to our Halloween party (let's hope we don't have a foot of snow again this year!). Give Dragon a skritch for me. :-)

Arriving to very ft of pg 12 for 2d time recently, try once more to type without kicking self out.
We both home from chori, have tended to immediate needs/wishes of Overlords & -Ladies, nowe I may attempt once more to make some comments. Not snarky, it's hoped.
DDA, gd luck with those grubby wee ruffians! Not nearby enough to offer any suggestions whatever for Expert Trained/Educated Help. They'll be cute once they're cleaned up -- when that young, "cute" covers all bases.
sherpa, wish we could do a lot more than sympathise, like voodoo someplace into hiring you. Also regret this was a Dirty Rotten Bad No Good Day/Wkend. Reckon Moanday didn't even come close to describe today!
But on a better note,
