Why stop at food trucks? How about every restaurant and grocery store, too, in Houston.

2012-10-04 03:36:32 PM
That's getting to be a really, really tired excuse

/typically used by cowards and liars

I've heard this argument before in other towns. It usually comes down to local restaurant businesses telling the town council to pretend the food trucks are a terror threat.

I don't know why they'd want to do that... nope. No idea.

It's a shame too. There are some pretty decent food trucks in Houston.

Houston with it's famous lack of zoning laws decides to draw the line at food trucks? WTF Houston?

Dealing with this crap down here in New Orleans, too.  Though they haven't used the "terrorist" angle.  Yet.

And we have some awesome food trucks.

I think the excuse local restaurants use here in Raleigh is the food trucks don't have things like bathrooms and lower amount of employees so they have lower overhead and wahhhhhhhhhhh!

I'm not quite sure what leverage the restaurant owners have over local government though.

Hey, mister, other ethnicities sell food from a truck. Open your mind, man. If you want to see somewhere where they nixed foot trucks because they don't like Mexicans, that would be Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Fascists. I love taco trucks.

Oh, man. We used to have the most awesome Cuban truck at work. She made the best picadillo I ever had.

Then they kicked her commie ass outta there!

The only thing I dislike about the houston food truck scene is that there are no non roach coach trucks near my office

I have been to Oh My Pocket Pies, those guys are good

Street food vendors are not allowed in downtown Houston because of laws passed years ago when scores of people were sickened from bad hot-dogs sold during a fair.
Now they're trying to block out all the trucks which are becoming more and more popular.
City health inspectors already make it difficult to operate the food trucks.
Food trucks have to dump their water in a specific location daily.
they are not allowed to be near chairs, but they must be within a certain distance of a bathroom...

Well, after that food truck visits, there are reports of poison gas in the area. That and large explosions have been documented in area restrooms.

I still think it is stupid that they changed the name of that truck. Anyway I guess I support terrorism on a regular basis as I visit both TruckstopSF and Off The Grid all the time.

Our downtown welcomed them. Because, yes there food trucks, and there was also a free concert, and on a Thursday night they had 10x the amount of normal traffic in the area, and the restaurateurs were not stupid.

Stealing the Music Scene? Wow, considering that the City Council seems to be trying its damndest to wipe out the live music in Austin (at least nickel-and-dime it to death), that's a laughable statement.

We may still be "Live Music Capital" blah blah blah but if that's the case, Live Music in general must be on its deathbed every where else.

There are about 700 food carts in PDX. Surprised the whole city hasn't been decimated by Al Qaeda. Link

Considering the explosion that often happens AFTER eating from a food truck, I can understand the need to be concerned.

CSB:

Many years ago I watched a Manhattan hot dog vendor take a leak in the alley behind the office building where I worked. His back was towards me and I watched, horrified, as urine pooled around his feet. After a lengthy whizz he vigorously shook his cock, stuffed it back into his pants, zipped up and then turned to see me, no doubt ashen-faced, as I had purchased numerous tube steaks from him. Perhaps by way of reassuring me, he exclaimed "Hey, I was careful!"

That was the last day I bought a hot dog on the street.

I lived in Seattle for a little while right by the Rancho Bravo Burrito truck in Wallingford. Great tacos. Then I came back a year later, and saw that they had moved into an actual restaurant establishment in Cap Hill. Gotta love capitalism.

/Gotta love their zagat score. Food: 23, Decor: 3.

Having eaten out of a few barf wagons here in Houston I can say that some of them do, in fact, pose a terrorist danger. Chemical warfare is scary.

I was assuming that someone was claiming a turrist could take a food truck, fill it with explosives, and drive it next to a government building. That's actually pretty reasonable but a turrist could do the same with a U-Haul truck and get way more payload space.

Then I RTFA and facepalmed. Goddamit why are people so farking stupid?

Andrew Burks would like to thank local restaurants for their generous contributions in fighting terrorism. #shakedown, city council style

He might not be in the pockets of the restaurants. He might just be that stupid.
