Mammoth remains are so common in that part of Siberia that they've worked their way into the local folk lore as the steeds of the lord of the underworld (so unfortunately in native beliefs seeing one is bad luck and folks do tend to run away from them screaming.) Palentologists have made it clear however to one and all that folks who point them towards preserved mammoth caracasses can expect to get PAID and so a lot of the less superstitious locals do, in fact, have scientists on their speed dial

Wooly mammoths are one of my favorite extinct animals. I would love it if this tours, like Sue did so many years ago. She was beautiful.
