This is the sudden jerk that comes after you give a guy enough rope to hang himself. Should have happened last night, but if Obama can get this stuff to stick in the news, it'll go a long way toward making up ground.

When Kerry was helping Obama practice for the debates, I'm assuming a complete reversal on the entire Romney platform was one scenario they did not play-out.

I don't understand these claims that Romney "won" or Obama "imploded", but I will agree that the Romney on the debate stage was not the lying shiat stain that we have been seeing for the last 6 years or so. Well, except for the fact that he more or less lied about his previous platform.

Obama wasn't the "great orator", but I wouldn't characterize that as "imploding".

I would like to see Obama ready for this next time, though. Of course, Romney might Romney out yet another completely different personality from his bag of political positions and pretend like last night never happened either...

Putting aside Obama's tanking last night (and it was an incredibly tanking), the debate may allow for the most epic campaign ad ever.

There are video clips of Romney calling for tax cuts, saying teachers need to be fired, and basically every other position he flat out denied last night. It would not be very hard to play the videos back-to-back in a 30 second ad to show that Romney is just a liar.

I'm not at all saying that this was the strategy for the debate last night. But, it certainly creates an opportunity for a tremendous ad campaign from this point in. You finally have Romney taking a position, and that position happens to contradict everything he has been saying for the last 18+ months. It will be interesting to see if this plays out.

Obama and his team better have a plan that they're following and looking pitiful in the first debate is part of it.

After 24 hours he has jokes he couldn't make after weeks of prep last night? Yea. right. Obama roped a dope in both the press and Romney. It became really clear when I saw him at the rally today. This was a set up. The expectations game is over for Mitt and just beginning for Obama.

I watched it. I don't think he "bombed". I don't think he rose to the top, but he didn't go down in flames, IMHO. For one, he had actual answers to the questions, while Romney would once again dance around the answers without providing any. He did use a new tactic to try and silence the 'Romney doesn't actually SAY anything' critics: He would number off his vague assertions, so it would look like parts of a broader plan. He still wouldn't really state a position, but every dodge was preceded by a number. My wife picked up on this the first time he tried it, before he even really got done with "Number 5"...

So, I don't think it was anywhere near a landmark performance by Obama, but I don't know about it "bombing". It's not changing MY vote, I'm still not giving Romney the time of day, let alone my vote. "Bombing" would have meant that I would have at least entertained the idea of listening to Romney's platform again, at least as far as I'm concerned.
