So, Sorensen is Alliance? Because I can't think of any other reason why he'd think this is a big deal.

Wow. Just Wow.

Oh my god, people, stop being so childish, it's just a game.

Wait, she plays a rogue? THE TREE OF LIBERTY MUST BE WATERED!

I'd run a counter ad that says "I play a game that involves stabbing monsters in a game world. My opponent plays a game that involves creating monopolies to bankrupt all the other players in the real world. Your choice."

Lachowicz's main character is a rogue, a type almost universally reviled by other characters in the game because its invisibility gives what is widely seen as an unfair advantage: Rogues can sneak around opponents and "grief" the other team by stealth; rogues have a particularly bad reputation for killing other players over and over until they get so frustrated they log off.

I played a priest...does that mean I'm automatically president?

Means you're not allowed around children.

Regarding the link, What the fark did I just read? The article didn't even make sense. She's 85, highest level (it's 90), she's 68, what?

This is the opposite of that wonderful feeling you get when you realize that you're boss also plays D&D.

if I found out my boss played 4th edition D&D i'd start looking for ways to undermine their authority. if I had a boss that played Pathfinder tho...I'd bust my ass for 'em.

Unless this lady believes the game has mystical powers or whatever, it's not really the same thing at all. And even then, a state senate candidate who plays a video game is much different than the leader of the world's most powerful nation having wacky superstitious beliefs.

If a person is devoting that much time to play WOW (and getting to lvl 85 is a significant time sink), they are unfit for office.

For that matter I think I read Blizzard is just throwing level 80 at people for signing up a new account. So really this could be a time investment of almost a few hours a week.

That said, HOW DOES THIS PASS AS AN ACTUAL CRITICISM?! "My opponent plays a video game WHERE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME JOB AS HER ARE SOMETIMES BAD"

"THEREFORE SHE IS BAD TOO"

If anything she should show some videos of her guild clearing a 25 man with her raid leading - if she can put up solid DPS while holding that clusterfark together she's fit for any office.

I stopped playing WoW over 5 years ago, and the fact that the author called the opposite faction a "team" still seems pathetic. It's the kind of little thing that lets you know the author is talking about a topic upon which their only experience is a 2 page memo given to them by some college sophomore intern. This seems to happen a lot with articles about gaming on "real" news sites. Now, stories like this are frivolous to begin with, sure, but if they're gonna report on gaming in politics, they should at least put some effort into it.

The whole thing is just stupid, but your criticism is just as bad.
The level cap was 85 a week ago, the release was probably drafted and approved at that time. You can't really criticize them for that.
And the level 68 part was a quote from 2009, I imagine she has gained a few levels since then.

The fact that it's Buzzfeed, which exists to repeat stuff that other people posted on the internet, makes it even more inexcusable.

One thing you learn in WoW was how to deal with trolls. And not the Jamaican accent Horde kind, either. That right there should qualify anyone for at least some political office.

She could be level 85 putting in about a week play time over the course of 8 years. Lets say she played slowly and took two weeks play time, that is 1 hour every 10 days.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Being a legislator is supposed to mean long hours, every day of the week. How can she balance that against a game that is like a second job for the regular schmuck. Is she going to have a staffer raid for her while she's in session? And she leaves herself open to accusations that she's receiving ingame currency and items from lobbyists.

On the plus side, she's would be a legislator that actually know how the internet works and that video games aren't evil.

Her last achievements were fishing related on 9/16 - looks like she hasn't even gotten the expansion yet.

Methinks this is a terrible attack ad based on ancient information that some intern dug up and went "SHE PLAYS WOW OMG"

This ad is put out to influence the type of person who thinks Doom caused Columbine. The problem is, so many young voters are put off by that, it's more likely to raise votes for the candidate who plays than alienates those who are affected by the fear.

As a former prot/ret Pally I was reading that like "Lol, no."

Now when you're fighting someone and the rogue pops in for a backstab while your bubble is on cooldown, then they're annoying. Otherwise they're just meat for my Ret config.
